True, a barn find with 17 original miles and intact paint is going to be worth more than a concours level restoration, but that's the exception. I learned to drive on a '66 mustang that my dad bought brand new and drove until 2010. The amount of interest that car got was tremendous.

There's a fundamental difference though. A vintage car doesn't work with a busted header or cam. Maintenance and repair is expected on most cars over time, so it makes sense to restore them to preserve functionality.

There is a documentary about this, free on tubi now. To be honest, it's probably longer than it needs to be and not the most enthralling, but worth watching nonetheless. https://tubitv.com/movies/562030/kirby-at-war

I had a good chunk of items in this auction, they sold for 100.6% of my pre-auction estimate. Last time I consigned in 2018 it was more like 150%. Either I've gotten better at estimating results or the market has become less silly. Now to be fair, I wasn't really that close on any one item, just as a whole they happened to total up to that sum. For comparison's sake, I had a similar amount on comicconnect and got 88.9% of expected. -

Good point, that 20 year cycle is probably more than we should have expected. -

I don't think the quality of the movies (generic term for all of the TV/movies/etc.) has much of an impact on prices, because most of the run up happens before the release. Then prices retract after the movie regardless of whether or not it's good. However, the number of movies, and the fact that many are now sequels probably affects the run-up. Nobody is getting excited about FF52 because of Wakanda Forever, that happened already with Black Panther, most other MCU/DCU movies are sequels at this point. Not to mention the number of movies is down because of Covid. Without those speculative run-ups, the amount of spending money in the hands of flippers is lower, and that seems to trickle over to other prices. -

March 2023 heritage signature auction

It's crazy that this seemed a little soft, yet after just the platinum session we're at over $7.5M, which would have been a smash total signature auction just a few years ago. -

I totaled the prices before live bidding and after. For the OA Platinum session prices only went up an average of 20% during live bidding. For the Platinum Comics session it was 37%.
