  1. How about the "Marvel Unlimited" Daredevil Newsstand versions of 16-25? Even if they didn't specify "second printing" I don't understand why Marvel would go to the trouble to change the plates just for newsstand distribution.
  2. How did you find all of these Tick books? In order to finish my first-print set back in the pre-Ebay days of 1994, I actually went to a New England Comics store in Boston, but--while well-stocked in the regular issues, they didn't even have any Special Editions in stock. And you're saying that above that the no-logo # 12 has four different back cover versions, right?
  3. Not really. Vengeance of Bane came out well before the Azrael storyline. Neither it nor Sword of Azrael # 1 had any larger significance until much later. I used to have the Previews that showed the Vengeance of Bane standing that month. It was definitely in the top 100 for the month, I believe around 81 or so. Rarer than Sword of Azrael 1--which was both a mini and had this hot artist named Quesada who was coming off of The Ray, but it had no hype and didn't break the top 50.
  4. Beautiful book! I thought about pulling the trigger on that one myself!
  5. First atom bomb cover is Terry Toons # 39 (second Mighty Mouse). December 1945 cover date--would have been on the stands within 60 days after Pearl Harbor.
  6. Yeah. Literally every 2012 sale of Showcase # 22 showing in GPA is down from the prior average and/or last sale from 2011. Decreases are showing in 6.5, 4.5, 4.0 and 3.5 and 2.5. That said, the pre-movie speculation was a fair bet, as the movie could have become another Iron Man and franchise hit. Regardless of value, I'd rather have a 5.0 Showcase 22 over a 5.0 Tales of Suspense 39. (Disclosure: GPA currently shows the Showcase sells for ~$300 more than the Tales of Suspense in that grade; I wouldn't care even if there were a $600 difference going the other way.)
  7. It's a good series for _reading_. # 1-8 are straight classics, and while it took years for 9-12 to come out, they fit in just fine.
  8. Dang, I thought I could play but folks have shown stuff off in this thread that have me beat. My collection includes: # 1 (F/VF), autograghed # 1, CGC 9.4 # 1, Special Edition, CGC 9.4 # 2, Special Edition, CGC 9.6 # 2, uncut, CGC 9.0 Signature Series (from our very own PeasOfCrap) I would _love_ slabbed upgrades on them and/or any of the NEC Newsletter appearances, but the finances don't allow just yet.
  9. Marvel 1, even knowing what I know now. Although the Cap 1's got a cooler cover (because of Hitler).
  10. Yeah--I'm confused. It's a Prophet book, but neither Rob Liefeld nor Stephen Platt is involved. Remind me why I'm supposed to care?
  11. But...what if you know the books suck? The best part about most of those early Wonder Woman issues were the H.G. Peters covers
  12. Comiclink has one of the 9.8s for sale in this month's auction.
  13. My buddy actually has a page of original art from NFL Superpro # 1.
  14. Wait--people pick up X-Force 1 for the _Deadpool_ card? 20 years ago all people cared about was the one with the Cable card, preferably w/ the B&W "Negative" Captain America box. Of course, in my world, 20 years ago was the last time anyone sought out X-Force 1 at all.
  15. Golden age of collecting for me. I remember being absolutely blown away by the artwork when I was 12. That and WildCATS # 1. Say want you want, but those were two artists in their prime. It'd be fun to go back and see what the story's like now that it's in the 200s.
  16. Nope, just checked. My OO newsstand copy has two small scuffs in the same area. And my Italian version is only a 9.6, due to a slightly blunted LRHC.
  17. Yeah--I hate you very much for those NEC Newsletters. Once upon a time, I was the world's biggest Tick fan. Actually completed my (first) first print set only after going to New England Comics itself about 20 years ago. Still remember their wall books at the time, too. An Evil Ernie # 1 (signed) and Metal Men # 1 (from the "IRS collection").
  18. Is it a printing error or an actual, intentionally-distributed variant?
  19. The original Eastman variant cover to # 3 sold on eBay this week for $1,500. I thought it was a fair price and agonized for about 20 minutes about trying for it. # 2 didn't reach reserve at about $1250.
  20. Wasn't it Savage Dragon (ongoing) # 2, or somesuch?
  21. A raw 7.5 of Birds, Bees and Turtles sold in this month's Comiclink auction for $83. http://www.comiclink.com/itemdetail.asp?back=%2Fsearch%2Easp%3Fwhere%3Dsell%26title%3Dbirds%252C%2Bbees%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26ItemType%3DCB&id=896412 Like Gobbledygook, it's black and white, had a 50-copy print run, and won't be certified by CGC because of the ease of counterfeiting. So you should look for some sort of proof of provenance.
