  1. Congrats! Now we don't have to see anymore of your "why doesn't this happen to me posts?!"
  2. I'm not saying it doesn't have quality, but really how different is this book than: Todd, Clone, Tot, etc, etc. There's lots of good books out there, but when prices shoot up 3-400% almost instantly it should be a huge flag there's some serious speculation (*cough pump and dump) going on. If the book was all based on readers/collectors that actually want to own a copy the price movement would move more like this: 50%, 50%,50%, 50%. Jesus there was a sale here on the boards of 33 copies that someone offered up at like $40+/copy, and it was sold within hours! Is that guy reading all those 33 copies?
  3. It certainly has, Maybe just a lull due to the time between issues Or perhaps it was too overheated, like a lot of hot and 'hyped' image books a few issues out.
  4. I just grabbed these three issues aside from the Lobo mini series today at a show. It was a buck, and I put it down! But I was already over my limit of what I was buying, and I had already cleaned up like a criminal! And I know the seller well, so I'm sure I can grab lots of semi copper keys from him including the Lobos. Would you grab issues 2-4 on the cheap as well? Same question for cloak and dagger.... Sure, What are you risking, a $1? Yessir! What do you guys think on the second prints on key coppers, like NM 87? I've grabbed a few of these for a buck a piece, I think having a much lower print run than the first print we could see some movement on them down the road.

  6. Rookie! Id walk out his house with the 2 comics hitting him with a buck and make a scene for wasting my time (after asking him for a drink of course) And then take a leak after the drink.
  7. there was a window where issues were selling for 20, 30, 40 dollars. Very few were ever listed at one time on eBay. +1 A very small window....I tried to flip a set, it had zero bites....
  8. Normal facet of business. No it's not. It's a normal fact of collectibles, but not business. Quiet pops, ygogolak and I are talking business. "So how many copies of biclops should I put you down for, 500, 600?" , so back to the previous post, when something is in demand you keep charging the same price? Leaving money in the table. Well actually, I can't think of any retailer that charges more something in demand. Case in point my buddy in Toronto last year was shopping for Ipads, and there was an advertised price at a chain but limited their maximum number to 1. He had to go through hell-and-high water (with proof of going to multiple different stores) to get a second copy, as it was a twin-xmas gift. It wouldn't be in the store's best interest to open up demand for multiple copies, and can you think how it would fly with the consumer if people arrived to find the price jacked up an extra 10% because of increased demand? In terms of a dealer selling comics, out of pure-randomness two guys happen to want one obscure comic at the same place and time, is it fair to charge a premium when under the vast majority of circumstances only one buyer would be interested? Would that same dealer sell the book lower if no one wants it for an extended period of time - probably not.
  9. Ya and did anyone take you up on these fabulous offers? I'm surprised you didn't put in a special 'gotta call my manager, to get a one-time tonight-only' pm. "Only tonight, but you have to commit to it while I'm here....I'll throw in Rat Queens #2".

  11. You work at a LCS, it wouldn't be cheaper to buy through them than DCBS? (I have no idea what DCBS charges for shipping to Canada, have never used the service).
  12. Huh? I never put it up for sale...All you did was send me pms containing low-ball offers. As much as I'd love to have Rat Queens #1....
  13. How many are we up to? If anyone cares, I sold my #2 yellow this past week....I'm contemplating selling the rest of blue, red and yellows.
  14. I didnt know if youre serious about these or not. I literally have a box full of 9.8 raws, probably 30-40. I picked em up for chump change so maybe I'll hold on to em for a bit instead of selling them now. I think a lot of those books Kevin mentioned have a ceiling due to print runs. Batman 497 for example must have a gazillion copies... Hulk 181 has a ceiling. Print runs don't really matter, but Batman getting his back broken? That's a key book. Yes I am serious about this list otherwise I wouldn't have posted it. It's also 90's nostalgia. A lot of you guys have a hard time wrapping your head around high priced copper/early modern age books. Print runs do matter. The fact is, it takes a lot for most people to go digging to find and sell theirs, and I would venture that most do not pay attention as closely as we do here. I have over 200 NM copies of Bats 497 and that is by accident. I could kill any kind of price increase for over a month if I decided to, and Im one person. Smart dealers are now holding onto their hoards tighter as well. Why would they flood the market and kill the value? You may see an increase in even the highest printed books, but that doesnt mean its justified. It means someone who doesnt have the book, doesnt care about saving $5 to find a comic store with a .50 or $1 bin. Any book with a print run over 500k or so will have problems picking up steam. Yes there will be an exception here and there, but those exceptions will almost certainly be closer to the 400-600k print run area than the 700k+ runs. Price is always affected by supply and demand ( a ceiling normally occurs when there is either enough supply to stablilze a price point or, the supply is limited enough the price climbs to a point where only a few can afford it) WD is a good example. Tiny print run, one of the most popular comics related properties ever. It should be worth more, but average people cannot afford it. The demand is lowered because even though MANY people want WD#1 they cannot afford it, so they cannot create the demand by purchasing it, even though they would if they could. The problem with 80's and early 90's books getting hot is, while the massive supply is known, it is not readily availible. Long boxes are sitting in storage units and back of stores all over the country with hundreds of copies of some of these books. I am not saying a book with a 500K print run cannot increase in value, what im saying is a book with that type of print run can inflate in price due to artificially low supply, that WILL correct itself over time, and that timeframe could be a week or a year. Understand that I am not talking about books like NM 98 that had Print runs closer to the 200k area. Also, please do not compare a bronze age mega key, with decades of interest behind it, to copper or moderns increases in value because of movie news. As ive said, we first must see what happens when the full supply is realized, that only happens when people have the incentive to go find them. I agree with a lot of this but will go on to say that many of the 80s/90s books are readily available. Local collectors, small dealers, big dealers....they all seem to have those Batman books around issue #500. Batman breaking his back, death of superman, etc. things events were so-hyped, so-speculated, that everyone was acquiring copies. If you don't think print runs matter look at Spawn #1.

  16. Probably long-grabbed by someone else in this thread.
  17. What's up with Omega Men #17? I think it's a trick...where did you get those ashcans again, a warehouse? A lot of the LCS's around here don't have older stuff anymore, but they've been good to me grabbing hot books (and cheap back issues) put out in the last ten years.
  18. Picked up a long-box full (mostly Batman books) containing about 40 Detective/Batman comics, and a ton of trades below (along with a few floppies, the Bane, X-Mens, etc.). There's also the Saga Swamp Thing TPBs not pictured. The nice thing about the trades is that most series are complete, e.g. all three Batman Predators, and almost all are NM.
  19. I'm surprised we haven't had any 'Rule of 25' talks regarding some of the heat of these books. It's around that time, and maybe some issues just needed more time than others...
  20. Really only in the last month or two has HB really taken off....SST #37 has been on people's radar for a long time. Also I think a #1 on a series that ran for 300 issues would have something to do with it too.
  21. Am I the only one who saw this auction? http://www.ebay.com/itm/231230223185?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
