  1. Only 69, big loss to the comic community. Worked on my favourites, Batman, Swamp Thing and Wolverine. RIP
  2. well...I went today...thought the turn out was pretty good. Lots of familiar faces and some new. Definitely more older guys than young. Picked up a bunch of modern Batman run fillers and few other one offs. Nothin special. Howard Chaykin seemed like quite the guy. Looked like he was entertaining the whole group that was huddled around him making jokes and telling stories.
  3. Hope all our Florida boardies are doing as good as can be expected! Getting really nasty in Miami. Some of the streets are starting to look like rivers... Live footage on CNN is pretty crazy Stay safe y'all !
  4. Sweet photo, thats crazy. Never seen any old pics from comic shops in Vancouver. You one of them? I was born in 1980 so this is way ahead of my time. I grew up in Richmond so I don't think I made it out to any Vancouver comic shops until the late 80's when my dad would take me downtown to visit my grandfather. I was only allowed to look too, never bought anything until I had my own money from chores...
  5. Anyone buying or selling at the Vancouver Comic Con today ? http://www.vancouvercomiccon.com
  6. *"Schoolmarm" A tree with two tops. Gonna have to ask one of my tree faller buds if they've ever heard of this slang
  7. You too huh...I feel like he tells a lot of people this..."one day"
  8. This sunday there is a small Vancouver comic show...but you won't be here. If you're staying downtown I'd recommend Golden Age on Granville if you need to hit a comic shop. Lots and lots of trades and some decent back issues. What I'd really recommend is not wasting any time in comic shops as you're not going to find any gems but just take in the local scenery...Grouse mountain, Seawall bike ride, Granville island, Whistler! (pretty sure the beer festival is that weekend)
  9. When are you visiting here and where are you from?
  10. After reading this I just deleted a craigslist posting I had going, very doubtful anyone is going to try and rob me of cheap comics but if I let them in my home and they case my place they could always come back...just not worth the b.s. I was laughing when someone I had contacted suggested a meet up at a mall but now I kind of get it. Glad to hear you're all good though! You never know what a desperate criminal might be willing to do!
  11. hmm, your username is NoNeed and you just signed up to say don't buy Gerbers Don't be a cheapskate! BUY THE GERBERS!
  12. I was hoping for 4.0 too haha but its always hard to tell with scans!
  13. Okay...so not a "please tell me what to buy thread" What do you recommend actual comic book hobbyists have, read, watch etc It could be a thread on the boards here..."Golden age collection"...that one was okay Maybe a documentary, maybe some rare...., lets hear about it
  14. no way jose, you need those gerbers, imo, if you don't know the past how do you know where you're going? what was that wolverine issue where he's holding sabretooths head? Crime suspense stories #22 swipe? ...Ill bet a bunch of kids had no idea where that came from... Speaking of bronze, what was that neal adams detective cover swipe...How many people out there had no clue until they were told? Wouldn't it be nice to know? Not everyone is exposed to golden age classics I feel like some people have taken this topic wrong... Its not a "what should i invest my money in?" topic Its simply what do you recommend real comic book hobbyists read etc etc ie. You need to read Comic book marketplace #..., you need to read article "X" from fanzine "..."
  15. Yes the title sounds a bit snooty on purpose but its really more about curiosity of peoples opinions. What do you guys and gals recommend that every collector should own? What are some must buys for the comic fan? ex. I think everyone that is interested in collecting comics needs to own a set of Golden age Gerbers! Such a valuable reference for any collector. Maybe you think everyone should own comic "x" or have read article "x" or needs to attend a certain show, watched that one movie etc State your recommendation and reason! (not asking what to buy to make money)
