Some are upside down - but at least they're visible now

Yeah figuring it out I did something wrong

I count 5-6 spine ticks, minor tear near bottom staple, plus blunt corners on spine top and bottom. Somewhere in the 8.0-9.0 range? Curious what more experienced folks think.

1.0 - this one is beyond help with all that damage.

Awesome, thanks as they try to stick to a 6 to 8 week total tat with pressing on a signing I haven't heard otherwise, but sometimes signings don't all get finished and wrapped up at one time. I haven't heard that with this signing and if you've seen charges, it should be all good and coming up quick on the 6 to 8 week deadline for cgc
You might call if you can or shoot them an email, but if it has only been 5 weeks so far, you might get a standard response of "shortly." but idk. They might have more info concerning the signing that I'm not aware of, but when it has been 6,7, or even 8 weeks definitely follow up with a call or email to cgc.
From CGC:
The signing for Terry Austin had completed back in March, however due to scheduling issues Chris Claremont was unable to sign submissions until this month, and the signing for all books waiting on Chris was completed in the first week of May. From the signing for both signees being completed, any submission sent in for this event has a 6-8 week turnaround time for pressing and grading, before it's sent back to you.

No. Not "otherwise sharp" despite the seller's puffery.
I'm not trying to be mean here, but ......
If you cannot tell the difference between a 4.0-ish copy and "a solid 8.5" copy, you really should not be purchasing vintage books. Study. Learn. Then invest.Gee thanks Dad - or is Son? Light date stamps don't matter. Tanning sometimes doesn't have a great affect. Foxing may knock down a grade or 2 but allow book to still be 6 or 7. Seen enough to know that when I don't think a grade is right - sometimes I am too low - so I ask questions to verify what I think. It's not an investment, it's a collection, but don't want to overpay - which was the point behind asking.
Thanks for the reply.

Needs a C&P so bad... why grade it now?
Trying to decide whether to buy it, seller says its a solid VF+ (8.5), I'm not sure it should be that high

Are you aware if the signing has happened yet?
All books when paid for pressing show up at CGC immediately as "in ccs" until the signing happens and show up only immediately as SFG if pressing was not chosen to be paid for as an option. That is all immediately when "received!"
It could be that the signing hasn't happened, and the books are secured at and with CGC at CCS as normal; to show they've received your books and when the signing happens, then CGC tries to get the full CCS and Grading to happen within their 6 to 8 turnaround times
There was a previous status of on 3/1 of received at CGC (I forget the exact words), which I presume was when the box was opened. On 3/2 I was charged $40 for CGC Pressing. Clairmont/Austin signing was scheduled for early March, books had to be there by 3/1, and I was charged for that on 3/7 - so I presume the signing happened then also. Status then changed to Received at CCS on 4/4, and I was charged another $20 on 4/4. That's what I know - I did pay for pressing - so waiting for that to happen and for them to go to SFG.
-
I have 2 books that show received 3/1/24 for in-house signing, and went to Received at CCS for cleaning/pressing on 4/4/24 - anxiously awaiting the change to Scheduled for Grading, anyone have recent experience on how long books take to get through CCS? Been almost 5 full weeks.

Does that back tear go through to some of the pages? Appears to be in a different spot than the front. Really bright/presents well, staples look great. I'm afraid these tears being the grade down though, 7.5 maybe, interested to see what others think.
Thanks for posting.

I think that small tear has less affect than a 1/4" spine split, which is allowed in at 6.0. Spine and staples look great. There's some wear at the corners, and some creases - but overall this is a great looking book. I'd give it a 7.0-7.5, even with that 1/4" back cover tear due to the rest of the book. a CnP would take out some of the non-color breaking creases and indentations on the cover.
Thanks for posting.

3.5 - those water stains hurt.
-
-
1.5 allows for up to 1/10th of the back cover to be missing - think we're over that amount missing here. 1.0 - allows no back cover at all - I think you could get a 1.0 - looking at recent sales data on-line still worth sending in.
-
9.6 seemed generous, 9.4 to me - can never tell with these higher grade books what they'll get you for and what they'll ignore
-
2.0-2.5, getting schooled in Point 5's grading contest, nothing huge missing, pretty discolored but intact
-
I am not really experienced at this - but based on what I've read on this thread, and then seen when the grade comes back, with a good clean and press I would not be surprised if this grades out at a 7.0.

Thanks - wasn't planning on grading them, just didn't know if this was common (first time I've seen it), and if I should just leave as is or doing something else with them. They do not show any signs of creases as they sit today, and the packaging includes a backing board which has the address label on the outside for mailing.
-
Bought a lot of X-Men, last 10 issues are still in original packaging from direct mailing. Only including front cover as back includes the name/address of the person who received it. Not sure what to make of these - they've obviously never been read. Don't think I should open them, but was wondering what others thought.
-
I agree with 7ish as is - a clean/press would get rid of some of the finger bends and non color breaking stuff
