  1. I highly recommend getting a set of Gerber photo guides (I have an inexpensive set available ) and peruse/study and find issues that appeal to you. Then search out budget copies. Everyone's taste is unique
  2. you and Richard are choir members already
  3. There are definitely some incredibly high demand issues like 40 44 46 on the mmc side but it just doesn't look like the market loves the single digit pulpy issues at the prices they currently are relative to a few alternate choices
  4. I love mmc too. When I sold my run, I lost about 20%. Didn't love that.
  5. are you saying newbie GA collectors just want to make a buck off comics and aren't collecting them primarily for coolness and significance...? I wouldn't care if these books were worth half the dime they originally cost, because I'd still buy what I like. never even implied that so the MMs just aren't cool enough for them to connect to and drive up interest. . MMs not cool enough?! I'm not poking at you Rick...maybe I need a newbie GA collector to speak up and say why they don't think MMs are cool enough. I'm guessing because of the the price points that are so high---they'd rather buy a Cap book than an early MM for $5000 that's the rub. Prices certainly are a factor. If you had to choose between cap and mmc for same or comparable money, which do you think wins
  6. ? 20-30 years ago no serious DC collector even wanted All star unless it was 1-3-8 and then they were nothing big next to Superman Batman in my world here in California/New york collecters i new felt the same. I could never understand is early 80s on up Aing man 5 and blackhawk 9 were hot. G.A.tor you know your stuff way more than me I just started back in 2000 but does All Star 8 only jump cause Wonder Woman in movies like Mfun 73 ? It's a combination of factors. Movies being one of them. But ww is part of the dc big 3. Been undervalued and under appreciated for a long time

  8. Historical significance and current market dynamics are two different things today 15-20 yrs ago you weren't even considered a serious dc collector unless you had a run of all stars.
  9. Existing ga collectors either have already collected mmc or not a title on their radar. So only new demand will result in big movement in the title. Where is that new demand going to come from if not new ga collectors? Look at all star on the dc side (comparable type run) ...chocked full of superheroes known today and still title that has been on an almost 10 yr backward slide. Timelys are great but most will choose cap over mmc
  10. some time ago ,yes Marvel Comics 1 is still the top 3 comics ever produced. It's a King in any chess game. . its big for sure from a historical standpoint. Just not top 3 or even top 5 from a value standpoint I see all the early MMs regaining steam at some point. I dont...always have some demand of course as they are way cool, but too much of a disconnect title for most newer ga collectors

  12. Was the last major find but won't be the "last" Action 1 is tough to beat. I was on a centaur hiatus at time
  13. Goes to show you that some folks do desire such
  14. I am getting close on centaurs!! but I've been a batman/detective collector for 30+ years.
  15. ...after relentlessly brow-beating the poor guy. I'm glad you ended up with them. That took a lot of work, but you managed to pull it off. Very proud of you!
  16. a friend of mine picked up this little mid grade original owner run of detectives a few years ago, and was gracious enough to sell them to me (only missing the 45 as fate would have it).... wonderful little addition to my collection (NFS)

  18. Most I ever had at one time was 7 or 8 I think.
  19. hitler is not on the cover of sun fun (it is a 1 shot)
  20. did they say anything about on line discounts?
  21. You mean best known copy of AF15 among boardies ? Hands down. If you mean most expensive comic, no chance. sartre owns a Captain America 1 CGC 9.4 (easily a 700k book) For an existentialist he has some amazing books. Not sure. sartre's collection is redic. I do believe he owns a JIM 83 9.4. The ones that stuck in my mind are the ASM 3 9.6 and his Cap 3 9.4 Allentown if my memory serves me correctly. Still, the only one that trumps Barton's AF15 in value is the Cap 1. JIM 83 would be a close runner up. john Verzyl is not all that active but he is a boardie. He owns many books that would trump these. And a few remember Dave Anderson once posted on these boards so he too is technically a member
