  1. Woah Steve! I just caught up to Fleisel Who's this Sullivan guy? [Of course Fred is so passé] Vin Sullivan, he did a lot of the early DC funny covers - he doesn't really hold a candle to Flessel or Guardineer, but I'm finding his output mildly charming. I love his cover art on Detective Comics #1 a classic for sure
  2. as we know, the entrance of even 1 or 2 serious collectors for these type books can affect the entire market (positively)...a single exiting collector will typically not affect the market negatively, as there are generally enough seekers to prop up, but if multiple collectors exit, future uncertain ..., at the current moment, the emergence of some new interest, has caused an uptick in demand, and hence prices (I think that was obvious at sdcc this past weeks) without question much of the appeal has to be the artists (covers as well as their corresponding interior work)... I believe that, along with great scarcity, is a premium determinant of demand Thanks rick - the pre-hero market is definitely niche, but the guys who go all-out (I consider myself just a dabbler) really bring the passion to the table. The raw, early history of the books is probably the greatest draw for me (along with some of the classics covers too, of course). that's my biggest draw to centaurs...the history, the evolution of the artists, etc... I like the DC's too...

What price Price Guide in this reality? we've seen what even just a single new collector entering a small niche segment, can do to pricing (thumbs u

  5. 1-going through the dr recommend treatment and stretching and drugs but I'm moving about! 2-unfortunately no...I am not a "full time" vintage dealer (given I only set up at 6-10 shows I guess I am just a part timer!), so I don't have online store for comics...just at cons or by request, or on a rare occasion I will scan and sell here on the boards 3-MMC 9 is historically important due to the hero battle context....but the book just doesn't excite me to own anymore (it once did, but no longer)... the others on my list are just "wow" covers, or scarce cool books that appeal to me...the MMC trio are great sellers (as is cap 46)...so, while I own a nice copy of each in my personal collection, I do try to buy copies to resell profitably...same with cap 1 and 3...those are incredibly high demand books... the others I just like, but rarely have for sale...I just sought out one nice copy for me
  6. One major correct in your post from above: the never to be released Pedigree book shows about 70 identified from '44, 10 from '43 and '15 from 45. Unfortunately, the Pedigree book that everybody has been waiting for will never see the light of day. it would appear that with the powers that be all going their separate way, that might very well be a true statement
  7. This is just one of the reasons I joined these boards. The chance to see truly rare books like this! I saw one of these about 30 years ago and other than this one, I think I have seen only two other copies (none for sale). I saw my first copy back at Tropic comics in the early 90's... I know Ive seen heritage offer a couple of copies for auction over the years ,and we saw a copy in SDCC one year, but not a lot of them out there for sure
  8. Not sure I've ever seen that one. on a rare occasion. Also, for certain books that are pink or blue pages just sub for "white"
  9. the same as last time you posted Makes all other "opinions" invalid
  10. There is zero debate. Cgc already confirmed pq hierarchy as did Timely when he was a grader for cgc Some time ago I got a book back from CGC that "improved" in PQ from Lt.Tan/OW to COW and was happy about it. Like I said, perception is what matters. As far as I'm concerned there is no debate, but there are conflicting descriptions in print, confirmations notwithstanding. I will gladly debate Coke Zero with you, however! The bip "printed" list is no more valid than if some random person printed out a list Cgc has confirmed their pq designation ...that's the only list that matters

  12. From a grading range POV, Lt. Tan - OW is supposed to be better than Cream - OW scale-wise, but that's not the way it's perceived. Still, that's a very pretty book! (thumbs u Cr-ow is definitely better than lt tan to ow ...any grading range that says otherwise is wrong Me thinks our good Mr Merryweather has partaken a bit to much in the fermented beverages Think again... http://www.bipcomics.com/showcase/CGCWhiteness/ I hate to correct folks, especially after imbibing fermented beverages, but I didn't make this up. (*hic!*) Truth is, I didn't believe it either before checking reference whiteness scales that stated otherwise. Maybe there are conflicting scales. If one reads that scale as accurate in terms of pq desiredness, that's on them. It is wrong , plain and simple, to think lt tan to ow is better pq than cr to ow. It's really that simple

  14. I would say this thread/discussion definitely was the initiator to grade adjustment
  15. Anyone notice that the Detective 31 is now in a 5.0 holder? I guess cgc fixed it
  16. Eureka! when I first collected timely's, I had the entire superhero set except one comic... USA 5.... well, I sold my USA's back in 2009 having never completed that one timely hero run... in 2012 I finally got a nice USA 5, so I decided to put a mini run of 5-13 back together, just so I could finally say "I owned them all at same time"... 3 years later, I had 5-7 and 9-13 but the 8 eluded me....until Heroes con when a friend traded me a copy... so, finally, I have a complete, unbroken subset of 5-13...
  17. high energy. High skill level. Incredible competition. Maybe the likes of which has never before been seen!!! Cat was our teams "cat"alyst (thumbs u
  18. had a ton of great $5 sdcc exclusive moderns...I would say offering was awesome
