  1. I don't think I've ever seen anyone post here WITHOUT showing a scan of the book before sometimes, as a collector, we have "pre mature" excitement...tis the case here, but i will post follow up pic once cgc ships to me! just graded and couldn't contain myself... finally got it in hand; Nice Rick. Your excitement was justified !! it is the nicest condition of my entire 40-80 run and it is among the most impossible to locate!!! tougher than 45 and 67 imo

  3. I wasn't as familiar with his Features covers, so will have to check them out (thumbs u
  4. and yet it seems year after year, more and more "new" and "former" sa collectors move to gold Enh. I think that's more "hype" than anything else. There's a small pool of folks who move over to collect "the best". I don't see many see Captain Marvel collectors. To me, the vast majority of GA is going the way of Westerns etc. It's inflated in the guide overall, and even most of the non key mid range books of the major titles have shown little interest or movement in sales. Sure, some guys move to Timelys etc. But new folks entering in the market are generally going to SA/BA for vintage, not Gold. And I think the real question isn't why some people move over, but why more people aren't collecting Gold at all. There aren't "more and more" folks moving over. There are some, but nearly enough interest to support the vast majority of material which exists out there. matter of perspective, I guess...I see far more GA collectors approaching me at shows and inquiring about books than ever before... and I hear the "I used to collect spider-man" or whatever... that said, it is a matter, as mentioned, of perspective... will AF 15 demand always be greater than most any GA book... sure... will the affodability factor of most SA and BA keep a "majority" of collectors buying that genre...likely.... but, I see more former SA collectors asking about Gold, PM'ing me, etc etc, that is looks plenty bright imo... and no one has collected captain marvel in a decade plus
  5. and yet it seems year after year, more and more "new" and "former" sa collectors move to gold
  6. I like the known and better known. For collectors of kid eternity and blackhawk etc he is "significant" but in general ga terms probably more known/better known
  7. dc books from the 50's (even late 50's) were definitely smaller print runs than their 1960's marvel counterparts... compare to say, TOS 1 and maybe about the same... someone had done some print run research and posted at one point, but I never gave it much attention
  8. there is really nothing "rare" about SC22...it is a relative thing... SC22 is "rarer", than say AF15 in terms of existing copies in the marketplace, but it is not "rare" (except currently marketplace HG copies)...
  9. the top keys definitely have great demand, but let's not kid ourselves... there is ample supply to meet that demand across all grades, albeit at prices that are cyclical!...now the truly upper echelon, well, we'll see more and more copies comes to market over the years to come and I am sure demand will soak them up, but at what price
  10. What about GA collections, though. Looking at the number of "new" copies of Action #1 and Detective #27 that have surfaced over the past couple of years, there are probably a lot of GA collections lurking in the weeds as well. In any case, it will be interesting to see how the market holds up over the next decade as more of these collections start to surface as the Boomers begin to retire en masse. Speed dating for seniors will be "How much is your comic collection worth" from now on instead of what is in your investment portfolio! we will probably be seeing more and more GA too, but this is a SA forum so I limited my response to that era
  11. I think we are all enjoying them...maybe a little less of the emphasis on the grade (picture is worth a 1000 words and all), and more on the coolness or rarity of the book might be better, but I have enjoyed them (thumbs u spoken like a true 2.5-3.0 devotee'. just kiddin' buddy; i know you get some pressed up to vg range. dont forget restored...I l,ove me some restored books
  12. another thing to consider is that there are still TONS of SA books in collections that are 1)not graded 2)owners currently have no intention of grading 3)exist in high high grades my buddy freddy that sold me his under copy, has 25+ af15's (2 that are easy 9.0 and maybe 9.4+ candidates with pressing)...at least 10 asm1's, half dozen ++ of every other key (I bet he has 50+ hulk 181's, most all high grade...dozens of GS xmen and xmen 94, etc), all of which his "personal" copy is at least a 9.0+ of each and that is just one friend of mine... extrapolate that out and one realizes that silver and bronze really are not "rare", and even in current high graded condition are probably just the tip of the iceberg... then, throw in pressing potential and one can see why I like to collect Golden age mid grade
  13. I think we are all enjoying them...maybe a little less of the emphasis on the grade (picture is worth a 1000 words and all), and more on the coolness or rarity of the book might be better, but I have enjoyed them (thumbs u
  14. I can say that the guy that bought the book from me is well within proximity to philly and did indeed attend the show... however, while I am all about full disclosure, etc, not every one is and I have to respect the owners right to "privacy" which is why I never posted a scan of the book (at his request)... so, that is as much "speculative confirmation" as I can or will give (thumbs u
  15. Is this the copy you have mention in the past Roy and do you know the PQ? Thanks. I know nothing about the book other than that there will be a 9.0 on the census soon. Very nice! Still no 9.2 or better, though.......... Roy, Was this the copy that Rick thought would be a 9.2/9.4? this is likely the copy that I bought and sold as a raw 8.0 that was pressed to a 9.0 (before I was really willing to press high dollar books...)...I didn't think it would press higher, but apparently it was pressed again, but I guess it stayed a 9.0 (thumbs u the 9.2/9.4 is the other copy my friend has...he sold me his "undercopy" 2 years ago, or so, as a vf, and it pressed to a 9.0...his copy was nicer and if pressed and slabbed will hit 9.2 or 9.4 almost assuredly ... this is the same guy that has 25+ copies of af15, 2 of which are definitely 9.0+ candidates... I am trying to buy one of them
  16. my son loved the movie and I certainly found it entertaining!
  17. you WW cracking fool you...congrats...great looking set (thumbs u
  18. pretty safe bet the book will appreciate at a better than current rate of inflation but one would need to watch the market, as that could change a few years down the road (Thumbs u
  19. I feel ww comics are still undervalued at the moment. I have put the run together several times and have been quietly upgrading copies for years. Issues 60-80 are particularly challenging in 6.0 and above. In fact you could extend that back into the 50's. That and issue 1 and 6. Those are the ww issues I like the most Batman is fun too but only challenging to collect if you establish some restrictions. Like last time I put run together I limited myself to only 6.0 or higher and only unrestored. 1,11,16,18,47 are among my favorites As for where? Well that is the million dollar question. Here on the boards, Comiclink, heritage, comicconnect, eBay and conventions are your best best to procure copies
  20. I flicked it off my shoulder then proceeded to beat it to death with a big rock...didn't look to appetizing after I got done with it!
  21. you won't nec regret it, but very likely you will pay more than you would today....
