  1. I've always like this one! it is a neat book, no doubt
  2. good advice, to a rookie ...but I have been playing in this game a long time, and if I want a book, I win it..I might not be the best poker player, but comics are a diff story...so, I don't think anyone really knows my strategy
  3. Tell us all what it will hammer at wise one if anyone is interested, I will PM exchange my thoughts...but, i am likely "done" with public prediction posts, as apparently some folks seem to think I can influence an auctions outcome Face it Rick, in auctions you bid in, the final price is invariably your Max Bid, or one bid increment above it. to true, but at least 1 or 2 folks think that the price I state a book will/might/should go for, affected what it went for (I wasn't a participant) ...meaning, they think because I posted a "price" that someone else bid upto that price, and beat them... go figure!

No sense in telling your competition the game plan. (thumbs u well, I know that, and you know that, but who else knows that

  6. since I don't have any right now, my guess is the ads on the interior back cover are the "rare" ones, and the photo's are the common Until I see a copy with an ad either on the interior or exterior of the back cover I am going to conclude that that version is not only rare but probably non-existent. I believe that the variations on issues 2 and 3 led to the inference that there must be the same on issue #1. And, like an urban legend, someones friend always has seen one. One of my customers is a huge fan of Star Trek. He has the 9.6 and four of the 9.4 copies of #1. He also has most of the highest graded through the run. His grail is one of the variants of #1 but, like the Yeti, the Loch Ness Monster, and an Astro's World Championship, it may be unobtainable. cool...hopefully your customer is one of my customers, on Star Trek toys
  7. Like I said, I'd love to see the $150k barrier be broken by this book. As a Marvel/Timely guy, it would totally rock. I'm just not "on board" with the rest of you on the potential of that happening. Of course, I don't think many pegged the Action # 7 8.0 from last year as a $140k+ book either, so I'm more then willing to learn from whatever the market has to say. I think the real diff between the action 7 and this book is that there had been NO nice high grade unrestored action 7 available in the market for years...and 2 folks really wanted it...drove the price right up as bedrock mentioned, if a collector wanted a really nice (and pedigreed) high grade copy of MMC 9, there has been one available (not super publicly, but enough of the "right" folks knew about it)... now, will this book exceed 6 figures?...smart money is "yes"...but, will it garner the same bidding trend as the action 7 did? only time will tell
  8. Jive no way this sells for only $78K. Heck Rick will be bidding that much on the first day! Well, Rick is one of the few to have some "skin in the game" so I'll defer to his input of course. But honestly, I just don't see it. The 5.0 sale last year seems like an aberration compared to the rest of the sales on GPA, and we all know that August 2008 was still before the market meltdown that really accelerated one month later. Its an AMAZING book, but it isn't a "key" in the traditional sense, it isn't from a pedigree collection, and its being offered at a time where the market is absolutely flooded with quality material. You need an investor (or two) to take this book past the six figure mark in my opinion, and to be honest, there are just a lot more compelling things to sink your money into if you have $100,000 to blow then this book. For the record, I hope I am wrong and the price ends up north of $150k. I'll be happy to eat my words. But if Marvel 1s seem to be fairing only so-so in the current marketplace, and that is unquestionably the Timely key to have, can we really expect this book to smash through all previous records, regardless of grade? I thought we were talking about Marvel 9 We are talking about MM 9 but comparing it to prices of recent Marvel 1 sales. ok, I must have missed a memo somewhere

  10. you mean 6x hammer for my soon to be former 5.0 right lower grade and restored MMC sell for such higher premiums because they are "realatively" cheap in the guide, due to lack of them trading hands too often... virtually "any" mmc for under $10K is a nice buy....$20K and up, you want a low/mid range unrestored copy or a super high grade slight rest copy...$50K up mid to high grade, and top census should break 100K, but there are a lot of variables (such as the chicago 9) that do come into play will be fun to watch

  12. actually, I just called a buddy of mine that bought my personal set of 1-61... he says there are only 2 versions, the one with the interior back cover photo (as pictured above) and the one that has the "ads" ... apparently, GK produced a few covers with the photo's and then realized they should be selling that as ad space? so, all GK ST 1 have the pin up photo on the outside back cover, and it is the "interior" photo on the back cover that is the "rare" variant... hopefully Bob O will get this clarified for next year (maybe I need to be clearer)
  13. the photo back cover is the "common" one... that was one of the errors I tried to point out to OSPG this year, but I guess it didn't get corrected... in all my years, I have only seen, maybe 2 of the back cover variant that has ads on the inside back cover... and I have never seen the one with the photos on the inside as pictured above... I have had maybe 100+ of the reg photo back (which is the common one, not rare as misnotated) and as mentioned, only had 2 of the non interior back photo variant (thumbs u
  14. and while I have to thank Steve for the #7, I have to, in a round about way, thanks Sharon for the #6...back when I just had 1-5, I wasn't really going any further...and I had been offered a 6 that I offered to Sharon...but, thankfully, she passed, and I went ahead and bought it...so viola, 1-7 is "done" Well, I passed cause you wanted to trade it for another book I had, ...which I wanted to keep;) but I DO appreciate the offer (and I want dibs if you sell it;) I still need a centerfold;) I have already forgotten, but glad you passed (thumbs u
  15. WTTB my youngest daughter's name is alyssa and we call her alycat (close)

I had never owned a 6 or 7, so when the opp to get both presented itself, I went ahead and "bit"... so, for now, 1-7 is "it", though I still have the Rockford 17 I have never sold...
  17. What a cool book and one that I have not seen before! Ken Nor will you ever see one again Yes this copy is unique Sorry Ken....just a little photoshop fun.....but I wish it did exist as I kinda liked the finish product as well.. If you would have changed the date on the CGC label to a little later you may have been able to pull it off a bit more. I realized that after I posted it but like Gator said......I don't think many would have bit nor would I have felt comfortable posting it without hinting it wasn't genuine. ;)Obviously the anniversary issues are what gave me the idea but then the christmas theme just kinda fell into place. Hey at least it's a pedigree......I still think Gator is just jealous because even 317k couldn't buy this book
  18. Those go really well together! In fact, they go perfect together! It might be the best two (outside of 27) that you can have. what do you mean "might" you lunatic! Well 27 and 29 would be the absolute perfect pair. Outside of that, 29 and 31 are next in the perfect line. yes, but you already clarified (outside of 27)...good god man, put down the gun!
  19. Such a great set Rick! I'd love to get the #1 and #7 from you one day. if I sell them, will be as a group of 7 (thumbs u Gee thanks...... 100k in business doesn't buy you the special treatment it used to anymore I guess..... the optimum word was "if"
