  1. The more you look at this, the weirder it gets...
  2. These definitely meet the creepy standard...
  3. GKMLOOOMS Here are scans (not mine) of the full story. This has been reprinted several times in different collections, for good reason. A true pre-code classic, a real nightmare story with amazing art by the great George Evans. This is what set Fawcett apart from and above other precode publishers - the length of their stories and the willingness to explore longer, more inventive narratives. EC and Atlas stories were mostly formulaic - you could often guess the "twist" halfway through the story. But Fawcett really stretched out their horror stories, ratcheting up the suspense and horror. With major talent like George Evans and Bob Powell, some of the long Fawcett stories are among the best horror comics ever produced. This story from Worlds of Fear #3 and "The Slithering Horror of Skontong Swamp" (also by Evans) from This Magazine is Haunted #5 are the best of the best.
  4. Looks like a creepy dude with Alice Kelley...
  5. I'm sure those must've looked right smart. I bet they just mailed you a black felt marker with instructions. You might be right. When I was a kid I mailed off for a novelty from an ad in the back of a comic book - CRACKED TELEVISION SCREEN GAG! It showed a television screen with spiderweb cracks on it. "That will really freak the family out," I thought. "Great fun!" The envelope finally came and inside was...a black crayon. With instructions to use it to draw cracks on your television screen.
  6. That is one of the creepiest Santa pics I've ever seen. Almost as bad as L.B. Cole's Santa drawings. One could do a whole subtopic of creepy Santas...
  7. WOW! Don't think I've seen you post that before - that is a really really tough book!
  8. Agree, that is an important book. Six years ago I posted some interior shots and pointed out why I thought it was definitely an early horror comic - two years before Eerie #1. Funny, your response in that thread is what prompted me to get my copy! Beautiful copy!
  9. Thanks for posting all these. Have always liked C.A. Winter's work. He has the same cartoony expressive feel as Wolverton.

  11. If you are patient, you can grow your own. From small things...
  12. Who said all jungle titles were the same? And others...
  13. These contests and rules... Who can pick only 10? Lots of great covers posted here! Here are some lesser known beauties...
  14. Scrooge, what a fantastic survey of examples from different artists! Did you have these all cued up or did you put these together just for this thread? Really rekindles an appreciation of the incredible artistry found in these old booklets!
