In today's less innocent times, some may snicker at the title "Love Trails". Love Trails #1 from 1949, with a great Heath story. -

If a collector wants to take it a step further, there is the interesting subset of the Atlas Western Romances. Atlas Western Romances... Where else will you find a photo cover of a young Yvonne DeCarlo? Romances Of The West #1 1949 -
This is dated 1941. All comics, published by David "Feature Books" McKay. Don't know if it beats Cap 1 or not...

Heath is like the Mozart of comics. How many artists could create that mood? -

Wow! Hank Chapman wrote some great stories and artists like Heath and Everett always gave him their best efforts. -
Good memory! You're right, he didn't mention it or include a scan of the back cover. Got it for the contents - complete copies of Popular Comics #9 and The Funnies #1, and that it was a weird giveaway. Thrilled to see the names on the back cover and realize what it was - a Max Gaines giveaway produced for kids at the camp Bill and Elaine Gaines attended in the summer of 1936. (thumbs u Thanks!

Dare you to look at that cover before bedtime. Sleep tight! From Fox Theatres in Wisconsin. This one has a covered copy of Bobby Benson's B-Bar-B Riders #5 from 1951 inside. You can smell the Goldenrod Butter on the fresh ... -

From American Juniors and Haiman Shoe Store in Newton Centre, MA. Looks like these greedy guys just threw a chunk of Dell's Giant Western Roundup #5 from 1952 between a cover. A big giant like that, they could rip apart to make a bunch of giveaways! -

While the use of these characters on this Menu for the 5th Air Force Special Services Hotel may not have been properly licensed, it was for a good cause... -
The power of comic books is so strong that some are tempted to misuse it. Post your re-covered, poached, pirated, pilfered comic books. Many comic books that were supposed to be returned or destroyed after their newsstand shelf life instead found use as promotional items for local businesses. They slapped on a new cover and called it theirs. Although some re-covered comics may have been legitimate, many of these homebrew bootlegs were supposed to have been destroyed. Found a few of these. Will dig up more if there is interest. From Keilman's Shoe Store in Tamaqua, PA, here's Here's Howie #15 from 1954.

Love the way Maneely uses color to set off Ringo against the characters in the background. However, I question whether killers would really tremble at the name of "RINGO." -

Everett really did do some fantastic work on some of those historical stories. It would be nice to see them collected somewhere. -

Sorry not Golden Age, this is from around 1961. Thought it might fit here, though. Brochure from Independent News to promote comic book sales. Check out the companies they represented. -

Bill Everett relates a little bit of history in MARINES IN BATTLE #4, 1954. BIG THANKS to the Grand Comic Book Database for helping collectors find good Atlas stories. Atlas comics can be a crapshoot. GCD eliminates some of the guesswork!
