  1. Love those comics. But this one could also fit in the Undead Thread...
  2. At first glance, this looked like a case of Giant Bunny Arson Good observation. You should see the back cover...
  3. The turkey leftovers are gone. Maybe it's time to revive this thread. From 1954 to 1962, Western Publishing produced Christmas giveaway comics for Ford Motor Company, to be distributed at the famous Ford Rotunda. Some have great wraparound covers. Some issues contain comic art by noted children's book artist Richard Scarry. Most have some puzzle/activity/coloring pages. A couple of the later issues have more illustrated story content than comics. Limited distribution, puzzles and coloring pages that were often completed, and demand by car collectors make these tough to locate in condition. The Guide has recently included them in the promo comic section, but the listed prices seem pretty low. 1954 issue
  4. Great book - what a cover! Too bad there's no publisher putting out books like that today.
  5. Collecting Rule #34 - When hunting comics in the wild (not buying from dealers), if you find something, always remember to ask, "Do you have any more like this?" or "Do you have anything else?" Ask repeatedly, because you never know what will turn up. Recently I bought a copy of the UK edition of E.C.'s Picture Stories From The Bible - The New Testament.. These were licensed from E.C. and published in 1954 in England in hardback form, on high quality white paper. This copy was dirt cheap, and like new, with a pristeen dust jacket. I asked the seller if they had anything else. Why yes, they did have The Old Testament volume as well, in the same unread shape. Anything else? "No, no, that's it," they answered. Are you sure? Any other comics? "Well, actually, now that you mention it..." They had a hardcover edition of the Classics Illustrated Joan of Arc. It was offered as an incentive to buy the two Bible volumes. And they had the original flyer that promoted the offer. And the original letter from the publisher that came with the set. Got the whole lot for less than the cost of a new DVD.
  6. Thanks for having that attitude and thanks very much for posting the pics of this rare book. It's great to see the fantastic Everett artwork and the other stories, too!
  7. Good grief! Those pictures deserve a thread of their own!
  8. Great books! The Comedy 22, Miss Fury 3, and MM 46 are my favorites. This MM is the product of a fevered mind. The more you look, the more weird touches you see - is that a worm or a snake coming out of Adolf "Gherkin" Hitler's ear?
  9. Here are a couple of uncommon ones... Mean Scamp-f - Hitler bashing comic published by McKay in the Feature Book format. Bell Serviceman #2 - Classified comic for training Bell aircraft technicians. Neither listed in the Guide or Gerber. Thank you. (thumbs u You're welcome! Here are a couple more... No big H, but definitely Axis types...

  11. Interior pages from Black Rider Rides Again. Poached from the excellent Jack Kirby Museum site: http://kirbymuseum.org/blogs/simonandkirby/archives/791
  12. That Black Rider is, IMHO, one of the single best Atlas western issues. THREE Kirby stories and a Bob Powell story to round out the issue. In this issue, Kirby made Black Rider a bit more grim and dark than Rawhide Kid. This issue is tough to find in decent condition.
  13. Thanks for posting these. You're right, some great work in there, and hard to find - I've still not been able to put together a complete set. Did you ever think about starting a thread just for religious comics? Some great work out there that deserves a look. Thanks again! BTW, is that animal overlooking the books alive???
  14. Here are a couple I posted over in the Alphabet Soup thread. Please excuse cross-post - thought they'd go good here, too. JIUW #37 (#2) - At first I was going to say it's not really a horror cover, but it doesn't get much more horrible than huge asteroids smashing into the earth. Bill Everett greatness. Eerie Adventures - One of my fave pre-code covers.
  15. Oh, man - great Bob Powell story! Thanks for showing that!
  16. Great book and you're lucky to have a family that would get you such a gift! You've got an eye for some nice books. BTW, my kids love Korgi!
  17. Looks pretty spooky to me! From inside Front Page #1, 1945, Harvey Comics: Great Bob Powell "Man In Black" story about Death himself intervening to bring down a terrible Nazi air ace. OPG says it's the MIB's intro and first appearance. "Tentacles of Terror" by Joe Kubert. There is a crime/detective story, then a tale of mayhem called "The TNT Assassinations." If you get a chance to buy one, don't pass it up - upgrades are tough!
  18. Front Page #1 from Harvey, 1945 Early title you might miss because of the title. Not seen often. Has Powell "Man In Black" story. Listed as a 6 in Gerber. Probably more like a 7 or even an 8.
  19. That is really fascinating! Do you have more information or a source for that? Do you happen to know which issues were involved? Thanks for the info!
