  1. A lot of people when we speak about Zero hour say that this event had just small repercussions. But something worry me, is about the team series, for every of them the roster seems just to be totally smashed.

I speak principally about The Teen Titans and the Justice League, im the first guy to like know more about B or C ranking charachters but here that look like to are a lot of random, so i dont know if this worth it or not. Someone has read it?

After readed 10 issues from the Alan Grant Run (RIP, only 1 years ago) and some of  Jim Starlin too, i jumped almost 10  years later into the Doug Moench Run and honnestly this is just amazing! This second run of him are so underrated. I readed 539 to 543, 3 stories, 3 fights, Undertaker, Spectre and Faceless! The highlight defintly made me fall in love is this double page art of the Spectre in issue 541, just beautiful.

The facts we are obliged to recognize is that because Marvel are younger, during the 80s and 90s they had more space to fill on their painting, there were DC just got to pull old characters out of their hats. And even if they had created too some good charachters during this time any of them cant surpass a vilains with a legacy of 50 years.

    For exemple:

yes Bane is just crazy but it he will never become more iconic than the joker. A guy who batman catch since 1940!

And now look Green Gobelin the first ennemy of spiderman!... but only since the 60s and suddenly this freaking venom is born and surpassed him in the mind of many people!

  5. I will start in few time to read superman, and i i know i have to read several titles to understand full story but i have another question... i always look on mycomicshop the description of the book to see which book are a full story and wich book are a part of storyline.

    For exemple with batman:

Batman 540 and 41 as nammed: spectre of the vengance part 1 and 2.

So its easy to understand that i have to read the 2 to follow the story.

And when its a full story book it just not specified "part number..." like for exemple the batman 539 that is a complete story.

So now explained that. The problem with superman, the books are noticed with a weekly number reading order. But when you take each books often nothing seems to indicate in which books the story start and finish.

    For exemple superman vol 2 112 :

    "Superman's Ex-Girlfriend Lois Lane"

After this issue the next books are adventure of superman 535 but this one seems to be not the second part of the story because is named "Love and war" and not part 2 of "Superman's Ex-Girlfriend Lois Lane".

So the question is even if there is a continuity in these books are the story individuals or not? Can i read which issue with not specified "part of" in the title, individualy of another book?

Or maybe during this triangle era there was never an end like in the soap opera like TOP MODEL maybe?:roflmao:

I ask that because i like to jump many years at each reading and not follow the order but however i dont want to cut my reading into a storyline... for exemple im never going to read batman 615 before read the issues 608 to 614 because its a part of the hush storyline and i have to read this in order to enjoy.

I know its was very long i hope you not all already sleep:roflmao: and maybe the greats fans of Superman can help me.

Lots of books that I buy every time I see them, but the "under $5" requirement puts these 3 in mind first.

Rai #0 - probably the best single Valiant book published and it was on the stand the day I discovered Valiant in 1992.

Archer & Armstrong #0 - art by Barry Windsor-Smith and printed just before the Unity crossover made pre-Unity Valiant a big deal.

Spider-Man #13 - classic pose which has been copied many times since, this is an homage to Spider-Man #1, but done with the black suit. Hard to resist.

This spiderman seems to be a good way to steal money to a fool. :roflmao:

In all my many years in garage sailing, flea marketing, ect, I used to run into a lot of mostly SA books. I would say easily, 60-70% of the time they were DCs. Sometimes, nothing else in the pile or box. Mostly 1958-1965 eta. DC was in full swing and Marvel was catching up. Now, the Marvels sell way faster than DC. Near impossible to find any anymore.

One time I was set up at the famous Rose Bowl flea market. Since I was there to sell, I didn’t go shopping.

A buddy of mine who knew nothing about comics, only toys walked up with a paper box full of SA comics. He said the guy wanted $5. each for them. My friend thought they looked good and made him a low offer for the whole box without looking through them. He asked me how he did.

They appeared to be mostly 12 cent DCs. Decent shape. Cool stuff. I noticed the first Teen Titans and a couple others. Then I hit a handful of FF4. A couple single digits and then #5. I gulped and said these were real good ones. More cool DCs than a handful of ASM. #9, 11, and early #20’s and then #14! More DC then came Avengers, Daredevil and X-Men including a couple #1’s. The last handful at the bottom, ASM #1. Hard to contain myself.

He kind of looked at me blankly and asked how he did. I just told him, he hit the mother lode and I would have to look through and grade and price them. I shot him a quick figure off the top of my head and he about soiled himself. I guess I should have taken a walk before I set up. I was happy for him though. A good friend and he really could use the money.

Out of maybe 100 books there were only about 25 Marvel. But they were from the dawn of SA Marvel.

Huh... wtf im not sure to understand. My english is not very good so some times i can be lost... you would say your bro has payed 5 freaking dollars and converted it on thousands?

I have tried digital reprints especially of obscure GA books I will never own. Yeah, they scratch the itch but cheat you on the experience.

As a kid, reading comics was special. It wasn’t just reading but the feel of the pages, the smell of the ink, the way the ink permeates the cheap newsprint, and turning the pages quickly to see what was going to happen. The glossy covers and the feel in your hand just doesn’t come across while scrolling through on an electronic device.

It’s all part of the “experience” and the nostalgia of it.

Thanks so much for your words, that was the post i waited for, exactly what i think too.:golfclap:

  9. What's the 3 books under a value of 5 dollars you will keep on your hearts forever?? You can does 2 differents top, 1 for your favourite covers and another for your favourite story! Or just a simple top 3 and explain why these books is so important for you, maybe an emotional part?

I just thought about that at the second so i will wait before take my personal decision, its a really hard question lol

Simply not true. Readers aren’t enslaved to the fluctuating availability of original physical copies, to the demands of dealers or comic shops or book exchanges as I was as a kid. As a reader it’s easy to find alternative formats, no real need to get remotely irritated, let alone have your enthusiasm destroyed or ‘killed off’.  The reality is that readers have been liberated, have escaped those old school limitations. So, if anything, it’s becoming quite the opposite now.

Yes but maybe there is some people who wants to have the books in their hands... we have all heard one time a guy told "i will never read these freakings digital copies"  and im easily understand theses kind of people.

And maybe i should not have speak about reading because the original point was the guy who just starts to collecting comic books

  11. Actually have a good vision of the market because im just like to spend time on ebay to watch the comics.

And my report is that: actually if you try to collect a full run from 1990 to 2010 of ASM Only you will spend more money than to collect a full run of each member of the justice league reunited (batman, superman, ww, flash, gl, aquaman an MM)

    Its just crazy!!!

we hear that it's the mcu that caused the increasement of Marvel books, in my opinion that just killed a lot of innocent fan who initiatilly just wanted to read some amazing stories to escape of the reality...

Im personally started to collect comics just one years ago, and im lucky to have a preference for DC but we can't all love the same thing. And i really think if i would have been a Marvel Fan maybe i will already stopped this hobby realizing it was just too expensive, and unfortunately that probably happen to a lot of people...

What are you thinking about that?

    1) The comic market is very fragmented.  I can't imagine many people buy a copy of every comic that comes out.

    2) Let's say 10% of the total audience buys Batman each month

    3) A new, hot character appears in Batman 635, one that half the buyers now want.  It's sold out, as orders didn't reflect the demand.

    4) Collectors are willing to pay more to get the book now, thus prices go up.

    5)  If demand continues, prices will continue to be high.  If the book is a flash in the pan, demand will slow and prices will follow.

    6) Batman 636 may have the same number of copies available as Batman 635, but if demand for it isn't the same, why would the price be?

Supply is a factor, but DEMAND is the most important factor.  If a book is in demand, expect to pay a premium.  The average modern book has little demand at full price a few weeks after its release so it ends up in the bargain bins.

That make sense, will you think at the other extrem "the hated book" i dont just speak about 1dollars book of everyone dont care i speak about book will be received hate from readers can be grow up too?

Larry hama Batman does he have some potential if we think with a vision in many and many years? :roflmao:

  13. Ok, so now explain me somethings.

The modern comics books worth nothing!

Everytime we speak about that, the first reason as mentionned is that since the 90s people started to buy many and many copies of the books and keep them like jewelry, so now there is just too much books on the market and logically that kill the value.

Ok so now the point is: WHY IN THIS POOR OCEAN WE HAVE SOME KEYS THAT RISE TO THE SURFACE?

If we consider what i explained, nevermind a book present a new charachters or something like that why would it go up in value if everyone as buyed this book like all the others when he was on the shelf??

For exemple why batman 635 worth so much if everyone was able to buy them at the time and put them in a box...?

The only expensive books i can understand why they are is this freakings variants cover because is literally the principle to make them uncommon.

    Hope your understand my interrogation.

  14. So i continue to read my collection, its just amazing! Now already readed 5 batman issues, you can see them on my instagram page!

The last book i had read was batman 431 THE WALL, the story start with an investigation about the death of a woman, but I'm not going to explain everything... i just want to speak about this books for one things! So the story start slowly and there is a moment when batman come to the house of a guy involved in the case, he gets attacked by 4 ninja assasins and we assit to one of the craziest fight scene of all time, i found a picture that regroup every page of the fight look this amazing brawl!!!

  15. I recently invested in a great quantity of books and contrary to what i thinked (because i know well the seller) he said me after sended, he dont bags and boards the books and i not predicted that. Now i realize is probably a more reasonable option to take rest into my purchases of comics to spend some money to maintain the ones i already have. I think on a long duration is really better to now invest a little bit to keep my books safe for life. Actually the books will be going in bags by set of 12 i think i cannot leave them into it. What did you think of that?

Having just gotten pretty much all of these books since april and having to pay more for them than this amount, I probably would have been happy to have won this lot.

I guess the biggest difference was I got to look at many of the books in person and could decide if I wanted them or not.

Okay so if we can believe nm is actually that for this lot, there are 2 100+ books, 4 50+ books and 15 20+ books.

Given that I have no where locally that has dollar bins, the idea of getting the batman bulk books at that price was not possible unless getting a lot like this.

As i have said i payed more too, but im feel so happy to collected them as i did, dealing, searching for hours best offer, buy in many different place! Thats just so more satisfaying than just put money on table and get the whole lot. (For me)
