  1. What has CGC's answer been when the question has been posed to them directly?
  2. Asked and answered. This sort of thing isn't my wheelhouse, but it does make me curious.
  3. The Gentle Giant/Hasbro thing is interesting, but to me, the HUGE news is McFarlane getting the DC license! How long as Mattel had that thing??? Very curious to see what he'll do. I'd expect that he'll want to go his own way rather than create a line that would mesh directly with the Four Horseman's work done on DC Universe Classics and Multiverse. And really, that's fine by me. Between those two lines, we got nearly every character I would ever care about having, and the ones they didn't get around to, well, they're never happening anyway. Also interesting is that this seems to indicate that DCC will be officially giving up the ghost, as McFarlane will be handling all 6", 12", props, and adult collectibles for DC. That's a shame, as DC Direct really paved the way for everything that came after it. But to be fair, it's been a very long time since I cared about one of their lines. Anyway, things are nuts. What happens when Marvel/Hasbro go to renegotiate? Could Hasbro make a play for Marvel? As someone over on Fwoosh pointed out, this may also open the door for Funko to get a 5.5" or under line going with DC. I'd LOVE a DC line in the style of the Super 7/ReAction figures. That would really hit the sweet spot. Interesting times for sure!
  4. I have no dog in this race, but is it because a book like the black Venom error exists in a large enough number to be considered a true "variant", whereas this Funeral Pyre is more like a one off? I have no idea, personally, it is a curious double standard. I think the Funeral Pyre cover looks very cool, would love to dig one of those up myself!
  5. Absolutely, and the colors are terrific.
  6. If there is one group of people in the world that I would LEAST want to see in a swimsuit competition, it would definitely be prospective comic shop owners.
  7. Yes, there's no contest, digital is far and away the best and most economic way to read comics, not to mention the portability, and how vivid comics look on my iPad screen. I know a lot of people complain about how digital lacks the tactile sensations of reading comics, but to me, comics haven't felt and smelled like "comics" for a long time now. The paper is terrible, they smell like chemicals, it's all gross. (Although I have enjoyed the paper stock that DC has moved to on some of their books.) There are a couple of titles I will always buy in print, to keep the runs going. But as for my preferred reading method, there's no question, it's digital all the way. And thanks to sales and Humble Bundles, I have a big enough backlog that I don't worry about keeping up with "new" comics. I can catch them a few months down the road on Marvel Unlimited, or I can wait for them to go on sale. It's great!
  8. Far and away the best X-Men anything I've read in forever. That run managed to tell new X-men stories while also rooting them in fan service. Gave me that teenage feeling again.
  9. And here's the recap! Still some cool stuff in there, folks, so feel free to shoot me an offer. Otherwise I'll have a small smattering of books tomorrow AM, and we close this sucker up at the end of the day. Thanks for looking! 10. Awesome, thanks so much for the pickups! I've got the thread updated now, I believe. I'll have a small handful of things to add tomorrow AM, and will then be closing the thread when I leave at the end of the day tomorrow. So now is the time, folks! Will post a recap here in a bit, thanks!
  11. Certainly seems to be. Just a few years ago (maybe three?) I went to a yard sale and a guy had a couple of long boxes FILLED with the hologram cover Spidey books (there are four of them, right?) and Spidey 2099 #1's. I mean, dozens if not hundreds of copies of those five books. But he wanted nearly cover price for each book, so I only bought a couple. There has to be a landfill's worth of these books out there. BUT, as always, I'll agree with whatever the market tells me. For the time being I'll keep buying if I find them cheap enough.
  12. You're a Master Detective at this stuff, @Cpt Kirk !
  13. Relax. Take a breath. Have some dip. First of all, it's not that I "don't get" what you're saying. I "get it". I just don't agree. I don't understand how you "don't understand" that. We're not dealing with facts, here. We're dealing with opinions. Ask ten different people what makes a key comic, you'll probably get ten different answers. I'm one of the ones that thinks merchandising tie-ins for children's cartoon properties don't really make the cut, regardless of how many people like talking dogs. You clearly are in another camp. There's room for both of us. We have a disagreement over what "key" means. I tend to think the term is grossly overused. I believe that simply being difficult to find doesn't make something a "key", nor does being valuable (though valuable books are often valuable because enough people agreed with one another that they are indeed "keys".) In my opinion, Scooby Doo #1 isn't a "key" book. You believe it is. Which one of us would have more supporters if the question were thrown up to the entire comic collecting community? Who cares? I don't. I'd posit that Scooby Doo #1 is a key book if you collect Scooby Doo comics, sure. It's integral to the run, I'd say. How many Scooby Doo comic book collectors are there in the world? I have no idea. Probably more than 10, but less than a million (but I'd wager it's closer to 10.) It's also a key book if you're working on a Gold Key collection. But a recognized "key" in the collecting community at large? Hmmm, not sure. There are some books that are indisputable keys, that every collector agrees on. Action 1, Tec 27, AF15? Yes, sure. Hulk 181? Probably, yes. Hulk 180? Hmm, in my opinion it should be, but you're definitely not going to get 100% agreement on that one. By the time we get all the way down to " Is Scooby Doo #1 a key?", it's pretty thin soup. In conclusion: Scooby Doo #1 is a key if you want it to be. To me, it's not. There's only room in my heart for one Gold Key talking animal #1 book, and that, my friends, is the incredible MISTER ED THE TALKING HORSE #1! FIGHT ME!
  14. Thanks bud! Yup, happy to ship them to ya, just want to make sure you actually get them! I'll PM you before shipping to get some pointers on getting the package past the smut detectors!
  15. AND that's all I've got for today, folks, and it represents the bulk of what I've got. I won't have a chance to scan anything else tonight, so tomorrow night I'll see if I can dig up some more goodies. If that happens, I'll post whatever I find on Thursday, and should shut the thread on Friday. If anyone wants to jump off now, let me know and I'll invoice you. Otherwise just hang in and I'll see if I can scare up a few more books before we call it done. Thanks everybody for looking!
