  1. New Pictures of My Comic Room Here are some new pictures of my comic room, from this past weekend. I have a vintage Star Wars Deathstar playset from the 70s. Its shelves are perfect for displaying miscellaneous items. On top I store Bettie Page cards. To the left is a shelf with more miscellaneous stuff. I try to layer things from front to back so I can store more but you can still see everything. I moved some comics and art around on my main CGC and art shelves. My cat likes sitting in the comic room. Finally, I've begun displaying a few comics in the hallway outside my comic room. I've picked comics of interest to non-comics fans -- Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and Spider-man comics signed by the actors. I store them in nice looking CGC frames that I bought cheap from a boardie who was looking to get rid of them (proving again that one person's garbage is another's treasure).
  2. You should definitely go to Baltimore. It is a great con for comics. And while you're there, go someplace and get Maryland crabs. You will then realize that your CA dungeness crabs are a pale imitation (although I concede that dungeness crabs sauteed in garlic is pretty freaking awesome). For me, the Balt con always seems to conflict with travel. But I agree it's a great con for comic collectors.
  3. I liked it, but I think Quality Meats is better. But then I'm all about steak. I'm sure Il Mulino is better for Italian.
  4. Great report, thanks for posting. I've never gone to Wonder Con. This is a con I want to go to, along with ECCC. At the moment I have Thur and Sun tickets for SDCC. I probably won't go -- although if I do I might just go for Thur and soak in an immersive comic experience. Frankly it may depend if I need the miles to make 1K on United. Otherwise I'm not sure what my next con will be in 2018. In started with a bang with Terry's con, but then I had a work conflict with ECCC and couldn't go. Often I go to WW Philly in May because it's close to where I live, but it's such a lame con at most I might go just for the day (if at all). Anyway, sorry for the rambling, I just keyed on your comment that this might be your last con for a while.
  5. Great haul. Love the Human Torch and Rangers.
  6. Il Mulino Prime NYC I was in NYC for work this week. At the recommendation of @Ricksneatstuff, I went to Il Mulino for dinner. I actually went to Il Mulino Prime because it was around the corner from my hotel. Whenever I go to a nice restaurant I take a picture of the outside, so that way it helps me to organize my pictures. I started with an Old Fashioned with rye bourbon. As I sipped the drink, I took some time to look over the space. It's a small cozy restaurant with a lot of energy, a cool chandelier and a bar when you can get the full menu. I usually prefer eating at the bar when I'm on business travel and eating alone, as I like chatting with the bartender. Their amuse-bouche was a small charcuterie plate. My appetizer was a wedge salad with thin strips of bacon and blue cheese, with a glass of Italian chardonnay. My second course was a half order of ravioli with freshly shaven black truffles. I had it with a glass of barbaresco. Il Mulino Prime is an Italian steakhouse, so for my main course I got a dry aged filet mignon. I continued with the barbaresco for this course. Some might say this was a lot of food for one person, but eating big meals is my super power. Thanks for reading.
  7. Dastardly GGA Bondage in Pulps There's GGA and then there's bondage. There's bondage, and then there's dastardly bondage. According to the dictionary: I've expanded my dastardly collection to include pulps. Recently I got this one: Here are 2 others. The "girl tied to a wheel" is its own GA GGA category. This next one is pretty gruesome. Open only at your own risk.
  8. Of those, the only one I have is Seven Seas, but mine says 5 and yours 2. What's up with that, do you know?
  9. First time I've seen this. Thanks for posting.
  10. What To Do On a Snow Day? SMOKE! Okay, not that kind of smoke. Today the east coast got hit with a major snowstorm. Schools are closed, the government is closed, where I work is closed. I was supposed to go to NYC today for work. At this moment, at 7pm, I had a reservation at Il Mulino Prime. I should be eating a perfectly cooked ribeye right now. But the entire east coast is shut down. So what to do with a suddenly free day? For me it's to play on my Big Green Egg! Today I smoked a pork shoulder. Smoking while it's snowing is one of the joys of life. Especially if combined with sipping a bourbon and surfing the boards. (And, now my NYC trip is rescheduled for next week so I still get to get that steak at Il Mulino!)
  11. I'll take 14, 23, 24, 26 and 27 via PM (thanks ft88 for breaking the set for the ones I need!) 1984 and 1994 are some of the all time great mags!
  12. The Rarest Bakers In Your Collection Above I posted "There are many Bakers we rarely see for sale, and I'm interested to see how they would do in the current market." It started me thinking, what are the rarest Baker covers in my collection? So here are a few. These aren't necessarily the most well known or desirable, but instead are the ones that I rarely see for sale.
  13. Hey Scott midlife crisis guy -- just checked out your registry sets. You need to upload pics!
  14. I'm still waiting for your con report ....
  15. Actually because of your journal I got into all of this and was the winner of those auctions. ... just joking. But do you ever wonder that your journal may be contributing to people getting interested and thus raising prices?
  16. Another Aggressive Baker Auction This closed last night for $551. I really like this cover, it has good color, and the giants are a challenge to get in nice condition. Congrats to both the seller and buyer. But once again I was surprised by the closing bid. Bakers truly are on fire right now. Hopefully the high prices will encourage others to sell more Bakers. There are many Bakers we rarely see for sale, and I'm interested to see how they would do in the current market.
  17. Major Harvey Romance Action Tonight A lot of high grade Harvey romance comics closed tonight. I bid on 10 and won 4. I'm having fun chasing after these Harveys; although, I'm getting spoiled by the high grade copies that seem to be available. Here are the ones I won:
  18. Yes. Here's my beat up copy, but it's first print with the bibliography. After years of hearing about the bibliography, it was kind of a let down when I finally saw it. But, you definitely have to go for a copy with the bibliography.
  19. Probably the person who would know best is @SOTIcollector
  20. More GGA In Airboy Airboy is underrated for GGA, in my opinion. Here are some favorites from my collection. Also in 2015, Image came out with an Airboy remake. I bought the series for a buck a book at a local con. I was surprised when I turned the page and saw this. Only open if things like Stormy Daniels don't bother you.
  21. Airboy, Valkyrie and Dave Stevens I got into Airboy with the Eclipse series back in the mid-80s. The stories were good, but some of the covers were jaw-dropping amazing. Like this one, with Valkyrie. The above cover is, of course, by Dave Stevens. It's one of my favorite covers by Stevens. When I first started collecting golden age GGA, I discovered that the Stevens' cover was actually a homage to the original appearance of Valkyrie back in 1943. Below's my copy that I got at the Baltimore con a few years ago. There are obviously big differences between the 2 covers. In the original, Airboy is chained, and in the Stevens version he is not. But notice why he isn't chained -- it gave Stevens the ability to draw Airboy holding Valkyrie's leg. To me that completely changes the imagery of the cover. In the original, they're enemies. In the remake, there's a hint that they will be allies (and perhaps something more). This is just one example of how Dave Stevens was so great.
