  1. I'm here in Bulgaria of all places, where 5pm EST is 12 midnight local. Unfortunately bidnapper doesn't work with @Ricksneatstuff
  2. Food looks amazing. If the food tastes anywhere close to the presentation then the dinner must have been really something. The wife and I went to The Bazaar in South Beach a few years back. We really like Jose Andres's restaurants.
  3. Did I meet you when you were standing next to @Ricksneatstuffin Terry's booth? I met a number of boardies at that con but I'm already bad with names, and then having to translate from board name to real name made it an even bigger challenge.
  4. Super Magician Tonight in Heidelberg Germany, my wife and I decided we needed Italian food for dinner. We ordered/shared carpaccio, pesto pasta, pasta with clams and grilled steak and veggies. After posting so much about travel and food, I feel I need to throw in some comic stuff. So, here's a title I've been collecting lately, Super Magician. I really like the cover art.
  5. By the way, since we're talking Amsterdam and food, here is a picture from breakfast at our hotel, the W. An easy over egg on top of steak on top of crunchy fries. They also had a buffet. So you order an entree from the menu (like the egg/steak/fries) and also pile on food from the buffet. So he's my plate from the buffet. Looking at the pictures brings back good memories!
  6. That looks really good! It looks like 2 filet mignons? Here are a couple of pictures of the Rijsttafel dinner in Amsterdam a couple years ago. I think Rijsttafel means something like "rice" in Dutch, and that's what the dinner is, rice accompanied by a number of dishes. The dishes in the pictures are just about half of what we got.
  7. I like this book too, and I think it's under appreciated.
  8. For a while I had a max bid of $3100. But it's not really a favorite Baker to me, so around mid-day yesterday I reduced my max bid to $2100 (this is when it was at $2000). I didn't expect to win and I didn't, and I'm good with my decision. But I think the buyer got a good deal, if you look at what Bakers have been going for the last 6 months.
  9. I agree, I don't see how people here can eat it all the time. But I suppose they probably don't, just like we don't always eat Big Macs. I also love the food of Spain, along with Italy. As for the Netherlands, we were briefly in Amsterdam a couple years ago. The only notable meal was Rijsttafel with all those bowls of food surrounding the rice. Haven't been to China yet, hope to go someday.
  10. Alsatian Food A few days after Terry's con, I few to Germany for work. I took my wife with me as we've never toured Germany. So while I don't have anything comics to report, I'll talk about the food in Germany. The first part of our trip we actually stayed in Colmar, France, in the Alsace region. The food is heavily German influenced. One thing I've learned is they have pizzas they call flambe. It's essentially like a pizza, but on thin flatbread rather than pizza dough, and no tomato sauce. It's hard to find bourbon in Europe so I've been drinking scotch. Here in Alsace, food is inexpensive, but unfortunately the dollar is weak against the Euro right now (1 Euro = 1.25 US) so prices seem like Washington DC. After Colmar we went to Heidelberg, which is a college town in Germany. The food both here and in Alsace is hearty comfort food. Like, Schnitzel with garlic and a platter of sausages, mashed potatoes and gravy and sauerkraut (which were my dinner and lunch from last night and today). And from Alsace, I got this ham hock covered with cheese on top of a mound of sauerkraut. This was REALLY good. As I was eating this, my wife got the fish. I love the food here, but it always takes her a while to figure out what to get on the menu.
  11. That looks awesome! All it needs to be perfect is a raw egg to be cracked on top, and then you swirl it around to cook it in the hot broth.
  12. Yeah, you did that ramen place. Take a picture?
  13. I will definitely take you up on your offer! By the way, you're known to my wife as that guy who goes to Il Mulino in NYC, while I always seem to end up at Quality Meats.
  14. Terry's Con Report Part 9 - Terry's Con Last Thoughts After the con, I took an uber to LAX and sat in a bar for 4 hours with my computer and WIFI. Also a few Stellas, and this really excellent burger. So was the con worth flying all the way from DC, and taking the red-eye home? Sure. I got a lot of great comics. I met a lot of boardies in person. I broke my diet and had chicken fried rice. It was fun. But would I do it again? No way. At least, not a crazy 24 hour trip. If I go again - and I hope I do -- I'll make a long weekend out of it and bring the wife. I'll leave her at the beach to soak up the sun while I go to the con, and then after, the 2 of us will hit an LA speakeasy where you have to know the password to get in, where the wife is wearing that short skirt and Jimmy Choos. Now that would be fun!
  15. He had a Patsy Walker #1, and Millie #1. The Patsy was on his wall, the Millie in the long boxes. I was tempted!
