  1. Gentlemen, I was wondering if anyone can help me...

I love this issue of Special Strange for a number of reasons. I'm a sucker for original art on foreign editions, and love painted covers. Also, having Dr. Strange with ROM and The Living Tribunal... epic!

I found one being offered on eBay, but is pretty expensive for an incomplete book (it's missing some pages in the front):

Does anyone have a complete copy for sale or know where I can find one? Thanks!

Your best bet is to check ebay France. (thumbs u
  2. Your response re highlights part of the larger problem here with terminology surrounding foreigns. There is no clear definitions for the different types of works that exist. How much can you localise a work and how much license can a foreign producer take with a character or story before a work is no longer a variant but something entirely different? Alterations are made to art, language, advertising, printing layout, panels are removed, whole new story arcs are created, whole issues are redrawn and any number of other changes or license is taken with characters and there respective universe's. What is a Variant vs. Adaptation vs. Localisation vs. Transcreation vs. Anything else and can there be a line in the sand between them? Does a work being authorized or not enter the definition?
Perhaps everyone should just stop trying to put labels on everything and just appreciate each book for what it is.
  3. Working on the pics, I have to go to a friends house to upload my good camera.

And this is a question for everyone.... Are people here interested mainly in variants in the form of just being translated or with some alteration to prices etc... Or are there people interested in the larger world foreigns have to offer like adaptations, localisations or other forms works have taken in markets foreign to their original creators? I've seen the Mexican spiderman and things here are these other types of foreigns anybody's focus?

Anything and everything sir. (thumbs u
  4. I think that Woo will give you serious problems with Tim (i.e. he will track you down TO DEATH unless you sell it to him…) lol

Seriously, they are awesome. Do you know japanese? The only time I managed to purchase a vintage comic from Japan it was a nightmare (well, it’s a 1957 book but nonetheless…)

I have to say... that Japanese Cap #111 would look great next to my Mexican and South African ones. hm
  5. Most either don't want to get involved or don't care.
Disclaimer: This post is not intended to offend anyone and is not directed at anyone specifically.

From a completely outside perspective on the matter... no, I (and I'm sure a lot of others) don't want to get involved. It is what it is and is irrelevant to why a lot of people come to the boards. Some of you are taking it far more seriously than you should and others aren't taking it seriously enough. Plain and simple, if you don't feel like you want to deal with/talk to Rupp because of this then put him on ignore and let this topic die quietly. If you truly think he needs some sort of therapy then reach out to him and suggest it rationally. No one responds to accusations well whether they're guilty or innocent.

IMO it just looks like a whole lot of the same old tired cliques bickering back and forth, this time about something that was perhaps done in poor taste but didn't cause actual harm to anyone. And for anyone that wants to claim mental anguish, well... grow up you're an adult, get over it. These things weren't posted here, if you wanted to see them you had to make an effort to seek them out. Just saying. (shrug)2c

  6. Here's a couple of things that came in over the last few days...

ASM #102/103 from Spain. There might be a #101 on it's way too. At least that's what I heard.

One of those those original Spideys from Mexico.

Iron Man #54/55 from Spain. It took me about 2 years to find any copy of this book. It's rough, loose cover, pages in danger of becoming loose, but it's the only one I've seen.

Huge props to our very own Gonza_Arana (Manuel) for this one, I owe you for this one. (worship) This brings me to only needing 2 more House of Mystery books to finish the run.

  7. I have a lot of Canadian stuff...

vaillant, you should pm me more about that 1939 Supes...just to talk and not crowd here, and well :foryou: not bromance but I think you are purty swell.

Will do, when I get it. (thumbs u

I’d also like to open a similar discussion for foreign editions in Golden Age – an acquaintance of mine just acquired some early Batman and Centaur books from the late 1930s and 1944-45, super-rare stuff and the very early publications of comic book material here.

    Done!
  8. I was just reading this thread I came across a kid colt 205 with no price recently and just found out it is a national bookstore variant. Any idea from the more knowledgable here what the rarity of it is. Thanks, I will get some Picts and post them tonight.
Can't say that I've sen another one but that seems to be the case with the majority of the NB, Goodwill and Alemar books. You'll see one, maybe two if you do some digging but they don't appear to be abundant.
  9. We need to add a pair for Golden and Platinum (or their foreign equivalents).

I just acquired a 1939 italian Superman (the third of only four issues) – which features a "bootleg" story written and drawn in Italy (the first two contained Superman stories translated from the newspaper strips).

I thought about adding one in GA but didn't think any of us really played in that sandbox enough to justify it.
