  1. I know there's a silent throng of pb collectors begging for westerns, so here you go.
  2. From Western Outlaws and Sheriffs #69 and War Comics #9. I added an extra page of the Western Outlaws #69 for the suicide panel.
  3. From Lovers #57 and Bible Tales For Young Folk #2.
  4. Here are a few Maneely interior pages I just scanned. From Ringo Kid #1.
  5. That's a beauty, Andy. It's a great example of Maneely's lightly inked backgrounds.
  6. I posted the #2 before in the western thread but don't think anyone's posted a copy here yet.
  7. Here's another early Maneely from the same month (June 1950). Doesn't exactly scream Maneely to me, but when in doubt, go with Atlas Tales.
  8. Cool books Marty. The Tom Mix #11 and Hoppy #24 were by Kinstler and the Tom Mix #20 was by Norman Saunders. I know Kinstler did some pulp work but I'm not very familiar with it. I've seen lots of great Saunders pulp covers though.
  9. In Old California is definitely one of the stand out Barks stories for me too. That's too bad about the San Gabriel Mission. I love the history and architecture of the missions and visited a lot of them (and old churches) in Arizona and New Mexico about 15 years ago but haven't had the chance to see any in California yet. I guess I'd better hurry.
  10. That's good to know and I forgot about Ellison. I'll have to find some of his.
  11. A couple that I bought for the covers. I usually buy first printings but I liked this Rader cover on the 3rd edition of Pattern for Panic so much that I couldn't resist. I'll also be on the look out for the Maguire cover on the 2nd edition. This is my first jd book. I've been holding off buying in the genre because I'm afraid they'll be terrible reads but this one was too pretty to pass up so I'll give it a try and hope I'm wrong.
  12. Two covers that caught my eye. It's funny how I see the Moon Pool cover differently after reading the book. The cover shows a scene that happens in the story and the blurb at top doesn't lie, but the combination of the two give a false impression. They definitely knew how to sell books.
  13. Thanks. I'm learning from and appreciate your posts and obvious enthusiasm for collecting pb's. I'll definitely contact you if something comes to mind. Just about 11 months ago, before buying my first book, I got some great starting help from Pat Calhoun. That, some reference books, and going through this thread a couple of times to absorb other boardie knowledge got me going. Like you advise, I've been pretty picky and am trying to mostly stick with higher grade books. I also read or plan on reading copies of every book I buy, so the thought of getting too far behind keeps me from buying everything in sight. For me, collecting the books is just part of the fun, since I'm being exposed to so many authors I wasn't even aware of a year ago. Cheap prices (compared to comics) don't hurt either.
  14. I haven't been collecting pb's long enough to have any idea which of these is more valuable, but I do appreciate the awesomeness of these great covers in that condition. Great haul.
  15. I agree. Western fans, like myself, are very lucky he was able to do so much work in the genre before his untimely death. And the death of the genre.
