Glad to see you are back! This thread is the one that led me to discovering this website and other Comic Book message boards (what, there are other people that like comics and I'm not alone?... It was a wonderful revelation), it's good to see you posting again. Happy Holidays to you and your family and everyone else here too.

I wonder how well that would work? That scanner looks promising. The video shows them scanning slabbed baseball cards. Hardcover books were held open and scanned. As the pages were turned, the scanner automatically detected it and scanned afterwards. The software was used to edit out the fingers that got in the picture. No more need to press a book down flat on a glass screen. Guess I need to start saving some money.

Cool Haul. When I first glanced at that picture I thought "someone has gotten into my house" and then "nope, wrong furniture and I'm still alive", but dang someone had darn near the same as part of my collection. 141? I had wondered how many were in the set, never really counted mine. Are these the ones that came with the collectible cards? I think mine are still in shrink wrap with the cards..I think. It's been too many years. I'll have to dig them out soon.

I just discovered this thread and plan on reading through the whole thing tomorrow. In the mean time I thought I would post a picture of a few Harley's I have. Lined them up on an old box lid to photograph them (darn scanner keeps leaving streaks, so I used my camera). I bought these from my LCS when they came out. Over in General I was reading a post about someone finding one of these at a yard sale and thought It had looked familiar, so I dug through my modern boxes...

The first comics shop that I ever went to was Campus Comics in Lansing, MI. It was in 1984. I bought from them on a weekly basis until they closed up in 1998. It was in the basement of a building along Michigan Avenue close to Michigan State University. I remember one time being in there talking to Darren, the owner, and a hoodlum looking fellow came in to sell a book that a "relative" gave him. Darren gave the guy $20 for it. After the guy left Darren told me that it was the very same book that was stolen from the wall display of his store the week before. Darren said that a group of young guys came in to look at comics and then they left without buying anything. That evening he noticed the book was missing from the wall display. Of course he did not have enough evidence to go to the police as he did not witness it and had no other records to back him up. If I remember correctly I think it was a Superhero book worth close to $100. This was in the mid-80's. I still remember the look Darren gave me as the thug was showing him the book. I could tell he was livid, but he kept his cool so the theft ended up costing him $20 instead of the possible $100 or more he would have lost if the punk decided not to sell. I did not know about the theft until after he bought the book back and told me about it. It's bad enough being ripped off, but to have a friend of the thief bring the book into the same store a week later to sell is nuts.

Thanks for mentioned this AJD. I just ordered these hard cover volumes. In the holiday hustle and bustle I overlooked ordering my set. These will go nicely with my Barks' Another Rainbow set and others in my new library room I am putting together. (after I have read them of course)

I have used WD-40 in the past for removing old tape and stickers from various surfaces, although I have not yet tried it on a slab. I would figure this would be like other plastics with stickers and work the same.

I thought it was Star Spangled War Stories, but now I am not so certain if that is the right title. I checked my old circa-1992 database and only had issues 173 and 183 listed for Star Spangled War Stories. But I do remember the dinosaur issue with a soldier or soldiers on the cover because it was either in my fourth or fifth grade class that a girl I liked came over and drew an X in ink on the cover because she thought dinosaurs were stupid. This would have been in 1972 or 1973 and I remember buying it new off the stands. It has been over 20 years since I last looked at this issue so when I get time I will have to see if I can dig it out. But darn I thought it was a Star Spangled War Stories issue.

Woo, Good Haul Chip. The Star Spangled War Stories brought back memories. Although I did not see the issue I remember, I do remember buying it as a kid because it had a dinosaur on the cover. I still have it plus a few others as I liked the dinosaur covers, so now I will have to dig them out again when I can.

If you're looking for some historic prices on OA, you could try ha.com . They have prices for OA gone to auction. For example... #35 went for $239 in 2010. I would assume they may go for similar prices but that looks to be on the high end from this set of results, though they are older and the art market has been changing. Each piece is unique, so you may pay more or less depending on the seller, but that should give you a good starting clue. Also, try contacting people on comicartfans.com who have similar pieces. You will probably not find it on short order and it will take a bit of time, but with some legwork you may come into contact with someone who may know about it. Feel free to ask more questions. There are also a number of vendors who may sell such items and some of their listings can be found on comicartfans on the sidebar. Hi All, I am hoping to locate the OA to this cover. Not for me but as a gift for my sister who is a Cheryl Blossom fan. Also I do not know if it proper to ask, but where can I find approximate prices for a cover like this? I've never purchased original comic art before.

Glad somebody's still reading. I wasn't sure. This is a "must see" thread for me every day during my lunch break. I first read the ERB novels back in the 70's, and then later discovered them in comic form, Gold Key if I remember correctly, but I had never seen these old reprints posted here. Thanks.

Hi all, Before I try to sift through the hundreds of posts in this thread, I thought I would ask for help. I was in my LCS a few weeks ago and they had a slipcase edition of TWD (hardcover) and I think it had three or four volumes. They had it priced at $100. Since I cannot remember what was in this edition I was hoping someone here could help. I just would like to know what it includes before I buy it. With work and all I have not had a chance to get back to the LCS to see what it is. I just wish I had paid more attention when I was there, but I was busy getting Archie's for my daughter. Thanks

This is really interesting. When I was a young lad and my Grandmother used to buy me comics, most of what I got were the Whitman packs. She bought them for me on a weekly basis until my grandfather passed away in the summer of 1981. For now here is my US 180 Just going through my Uncle Scrooge Whitman/Gold Keys from 165 to 206 (I do not have them all). Most of what I see posted here look so familiar to me and bring back the memories. Sitting on the bed at Grandma's reading the comics while ma and dad played pinnocle (pea nuckle is how they pronounced it) with my grandparents, while listening to Ernie Harwel(sp) narrate the Tiger's ball game on a warm summer's Sunday afternoon.

Hi All, I found this at a garage sale earlier today. Got it for a $1.50 (worth it to me). Kind of beat up but I thought it was pretty cool. Measures 2.25" (57mm) x 4" (200mm). It reminds me of the metal license plates I could get for my bicycle years ago. Anyone know anything about it?

You don't love them as much as I do. Just ask my son Jughead. Now that was funny heh heh. Sometimes I tell my son that I tried to name him Jughead or Archie but that his mom had the first choice on him so she picked Christian.

I collect Archie Comics, just ask my daughter, Veronica, if I like them.. My favorites are the Life of Archie stories of the early 70's and the Christmas issues. Some good memories there.
