  1. A lot of people gave Borock a hard time about giving a book with so much writing on it a 9.0, I wonder how those same people feel now seeing it in a 9.2 holder?
  2. Snake Eyes was a nobody, they all were! But I believe Snake Eyes was the only major Joe left off the cover.
  3. What was also mystifying from a collecting perspective, #2 was touted as having “lower distribution” and was priced higher than #1 for decades! That isn’t the case anymore, but what I do find interesting is that Snake Eyes isn’t on the cover of #1. Why is that? My only answer is that he does not fit into the soldier, army profile type. He’s a ninja. Someone at the top made the decision to leave him off the cover and that’s the only reason I can think of.
  4. Just don’t look at the spine and the top right corner of the book and all is well!
  5. Well, let’s face it, millions of children grew up on GI Joe. It’s no surprise one of the top key issues would sell at a price higher than most would expect. GI Joe is still relevant, with toys still being made and comics being produced. Transformers is another 80’s phenomenon that is even more successful! I think we can all agree the buy was a nostalgic purchase, not a buy based on it being one of the best covers artistically rendered in the 80’s. It’s an average cover. There are at least 15 other GI Joe covers I personally feel are better than #21, objectively putting nostalgia aside. Some collectors could care less about GI Joe #21 (as already stated) and others place it above all else! That’s what makes art and this hobby great! What mystifies one collector is a no-brainer to another.
  6. Possibly. I had a lengthy discussion with John Verzyl back in the 90’s about the Superman #1 Mile High? Why? Because John had made a deal with Redbeard to buy every Mile High he owned, including the Superman #1. John didn’t want the book. It was not high grade (by Mile High standards) and was getting very expensive for the times. John was happy when Bechara bought it. I was told there was something done to the book, perhaps the centerfold. This discussion was 30 years ago so I cannot recall all the details. Perhaps a tear was sealed and was unsealed at some point. Either way the deals have been done and everyone’s making $. Like Superman, it’s the American way!
  7. I’m sure he did well either way!
  8. ASM #62 cover dated July was the last twice-up issue for Spider-Man.
  9. One of mine has Swamp Thing on it in 2 panels. The other one is the origin page where he’s being dragged into the swamp. I’m guessing those comicconnect pages are now worth 150k each.
  10. I would have thought more. Comic connect sold 2 pages 4 years ago from HOS 92 for $72,222 and $66,500… and 4 years ago in the OA market is a lifetime ago on sales prices. Happy I have them either way!
  11. Sounds perfect for most comic shops I’ve been to!
  12. I’ve got 2 Kane Spidey covers. Neither are keys per se, but one is the 2nd appearance of Meteor Man and the other is the 2nd appearance of Xandu, both are Steve Ditko created characters!
  13. I own 2 consecutive pages from HOS 92. I wonder what they are worth these days? The 1st page is also the origin page!
  14. I know it’s Potts pencils and Jim Lee inks. But the PWJ sold for 177k, so if you want Punisher with Jim Lee attached to it you could have bought this and saved $154,000. I was expecting the cover to sell in the $40k area, so $23k seemed like a $17k discount to me.
  15. Is there anything you guys won’t say, make up or exaggerate about when it comes to the competition? It’s not the competition that looks bad, it’s you!
  16. That is Dave C. When I was there he was a very good, solid grader, one of the best. To my knowledge he still works there. @lionsden can confirm.
  17. Sorry but 1 panel does not constitute a “full appearance” in a comic. 1st appearance yes, full appearance no!
  18. This page doesn’t even explain how he got the black costume, it’s the page before this one that shows the origin of how Spider-Man got it. This book came out 7 months after the black costumes 1st appearance in May.
  19. Can I interject that this was the prime era for GI Joe. I would say in 1984 GI Joe was more popular than any other comic characters, Including Spider-Man, X-men, Batman and Superman! Gi Joe had tons of toys, a movie, daily cartoons and lots of other GI Joe related items. There is a ton of nostalgia there. In fact, GI Joe is still so popular the toys are currently in Target, Walmart, TJ Max etc.
  20. I talked to him this week. He was sick, then went on a trip. He alluded to a third thing that happened but was not specific about it.
  21. Great list. The 4 X-men #1 Jim Lee covers sales prices are not publicly known, but they must have been north of $3,000,000 Also, I believe the cover to Iron Man/Sub-Mariner #1 resold for a record price. If I remember correctly the ask price was $400k? and the Origins of Marvel Comics by Romita sold for 312k
