  1. Wow. That was a great price for the seller on that copy of #25. Maybe you should have kept your GL1 Tim. GL1 is really picking-up steam. Your return is over 100% to you and that is impressive.
  2. On Ebay, when SC22 is priced right, they sell quickly. In the open market, most copies offered has been under 5.0. With the last two 5.0/5.5 Heritage copy doing well, the demand is there for mid to high grade copies. The Green Lantern movie is planning to begin filming April and let's hope everything will go right. Demand for GL1 has spiked, since it is more affordable than SC22. Since Showcase 22 is more scarce than AF15, SC22 price is stable and holding. Below are some fun facts. Showcase 22 scarce=6.0+ uncommon=4.0-5.0 common=1.0-3.5 on the CGC census (universal grade) white pages=extremly rare (only two exist) off-white to white pages=rare (estimated 5-10)
  3. I bid on the Mound copy, but stopped before $1500. That 9.2 is a fabulous copy on ComicLink and that 9.0 sold on ComicLink has great eye appeal. The 9.2 is my old copy, and it fetched a whopping $1500 two or three years ago on Clink. That was tremendous price two or three years ago. Who would have known it would be worth so much more today. Not really. I paid $5700 for the 9.6 copy in 2004, so working backwards from that price, $1500 for a 9.2 copy a few years after that was actually a good deal. Of course, quite a few people at the time thought I had lost my mind to pay so much for a GL 7, and told me so! I would think $5700 is quite bit for that book during that time. If you factor inflation the last seven years it would be considered $6500-6800 in 2010 dollars. In hindsight, when the Green Lantern movie was announced, every key GL has pretty much doubled. I assume you still have that copy right? Nope, sold to Spunkydo a couple of years ago along with the rest of my GLs except for the #1.

  7. (thumbs u That's a big gamble. Maybe this flipper may make money and not loose like the others and especially some of the Mound City books. doesn't nec have to be a flipper...could be some that just recognized potential... don't know, but whenever I see a book in common grade go way outside the norm, that is my immediately thought pattern these days.... "improvable" There's a few 8.5 on CL...why not pay a little more and not take the risk for those copies. BTW, the 8.5 that sold recently is slightly faded or just not rich in color.
  8. Also, first Green Lanter movie...so no surprise. I am a big Green Lantern fan but geek forbid if the movie bombs or is mediocre next year? you never know as I remember when Daredevil and Ghost Rider were red hot! any thoughts? Green Lantern is in the unknown zone. Yes, he's been red hot and let's hope the movie does well.

  12. That was a strong price for the X-men 1 8.0 on CL 3/10.
  13. Green Lantern 1 since it's still more affordable than Showcase 22. (thumbs u
  14. Reasonable purchase at about 1/15 the cost. (thumbs u
  15. Take that, evildoers! It's been happening so often...a flipper lost again and this is the seller reaction A big part of the probem with the Mound City early GL books is that prices were driven up by one collector who was chasing and outbid by the speculators. As we know, the market is small at the top end for SA DCs so once a couple of the collectors fill their runs with suitable alternative copies prices have nowhere to go but down. The pancake and flip game works better with SA Marvels since the pool of buyers is much larger. In addition, I think that since it was speculators who purchased a lot of these books initially they have shut out most of the other speculators who could have bid up books on a slab and flip premise. The blatant "upgrading" of these books likely sours collectors as well since they can easily see what the "raw" grade was before the pancake and reslab since this was a high profile auction. Add in the fact that the MC books sold at a market top, and you have a recipe for disaster from a profit perspective. I sense during that time we were near a top for the SA market and have mention in the boards about it. I predicted the first million dollar comic sale, and more to come. This scenerio had played out and speculations played a big role. Prices couldn't rise forever in a straight line for so long, so a crash and pullback was inevitable. Many of the SA are still up substantially the last ten years, so this is healthy for the market. There were lot of fast money coming into the market, and some of the collectors are ending up holding the bag. The winners it this market are: the auctioneer, collectors/investors who did not over extend themselves, and the patience collectors.

  17. The comic society just HATES TRIMMED comics...maybe that will change someday. Again, that is a great looking book that won't break the bank. I don't mind disclosed trimming one bit. I'd rather have a book with a little trim than a book with a large piece added. (thumbs u I am just the opposite...I rather have a comic with a piece out (that occured somewhere in the life of the comics) than have one that someone intentionally cut up... that is just me... not saying it is right, just my opinion (thumbs u With a piece falling out naturally, it gives it a more "OO" feeling.
  18. I agree..at least it is disclose. On a few occasions, I bought some comics and didn't find out in was trimmed untill I came home. I had to talk it out with my LCS, so they will agree to take the returns. If I bought a comic and was found out to be trimmed...I will go Luckily, this has not happen yet.

  20. It's a shame that this copy is restored and trimmed. Nice eye appeal and great colors. Still a great copy. http://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAuctions%2Fsearch.asp%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dshowcase%2B22%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_835587&id=835587

  22. My copy is going no where. I guess we have some true GL fans and not flippers. I'm sure when the movie nears, copies will come out of the wood works. I'm not a flipper...yet. I LOVE GL but someone HAS to foot the bill on my new baby. That's a great 7.0 posted up above !! Most people do not like the puppet cover. I love it !! Yeah...we have to start thinking about kid's school, etc..there's goes the extra comic fund.
