  1. ..i agree, and someone that knows steve should talk to him about the book..if the book really did go to cgc and was not slabbed because of the overhang,im sure it would be remembered. what im saying is,a high grade showcase 22 not being able to be slabbed would be something steve would remember, since im pretty sure its a rare occurance for that book to show up at cgc and not be slabbable...maybe he could fill in the blanks... If anyone doesn`t believe the write-up, all they have to do is email or PM Borock. .. thats exactly what i was getting at... i just know some of the boardies have a open/frequent line of communication with him,as opposed to a bunch of us bombarding him with emails,ect... If I were Steve I would be leery of giving an opinion now for two reasons: 1) He does not have the book in hand and if he is wrong and CGC does turn up micro trimming then his rep takes a hit (which is why I would ask CC to remove that comment if I were him) and 2) He works for the competition now so why should he help CC get a better price? With all the Boardies feeling uneasy and confused about bidding on it, I think I'll throw a lowball bid on it and maybe steal it... Let's play Russian Roulette.
  2. You did quite well. I had a few down grades with PGX, so my experience with them is not as good. If one can see the PGX SC22 8.0 on hand...it may build up one's confidence to bid.
  3. Thanks guys! Every little bit helps in trying to whittle down this $1.075 million bill I just got from Heritage. Tim you looking to buy anything with the proceeds? Any book in particular? Tim's busy thinking how he can avoid that HUGE cap. gain on the sale...unless HK has more liberal and FAIR income taxation than the U.S.... He has mentioned...his wife is from HK...so it won't be a problem for him Your AF15 will be a BIG gain in the future.
  4. that book, I believe, was in a cgc "trimmed" holder not too long ago Wow, that`s a pretty serious accusation Rick, since CC`s description pretty much says the book is not restored. I think Rick is just making a speculation. It`s a pretty serious "speculation". would you prefer I not make mention of the possibility No, I think more disclosure is always a good thing if it can be substantiated. Just wondering if you could provide some more detail. CC seem to be saying, and providing Borock's confirmation, that the book was never in a CGC slab because it was unslabbable because of overhang. I have not followed up, I only lent my observation in passing... I just recall what I "thought" was this book in a trimmed holder, and visually it struck home with me, but if I had any more details, I would have already provided ... if borock and them confirmed it was not, then I am wrong, I have no problem being wrong sometimes (Thumbs u ...so due diligence was a good thing in this case (thumbs u Don`t get me wrong, Rick, between the PGX slab, CC`s unwillingness to take credit cards on the book, and your post, that`s way more red flags than I`d be willing to accept on a book. (thumbs u Here's to you Tim and Rick... (thumbs u By the way, the book is a beauty...it's bright with clean grays and a sooper dooper spine! if it is indeed non-trimmed,and borock can confirm the story, its my experience that PGX 8.0 = a CGC "higher grade"..i'm just saying...even if cgc cant slab it.. it might be a 9.0 sitting a pgx 8.0 holder... Anybody wants to take a shot at it?
  5. Congrats on the JLA 1. (thumbs u Brave and the Bold 28 in 8.0 with nice eye appeal and PQ will fetch in the five figures now.

  7. Thanks guys! Every little bit helps in trying to whittle down this $1.075 million bill I just got from Heritage. Tim you looking to buy anything with the proceeds? Any book in particular? No, in terms of buying anything, I`m a pretty marginal player these days. The hunger just isn`t there anymore, for various reasons. At least Tim is still here with us and he loves the hobby. I'm sure something else will come along and get him excited.

  9. You knew what to pay and not to pay. I didn't bid but did give an estimate...maybe that helped. I didn't think it anyone was willing to pay over 60K, since it is not worth more than a SC22 9.0.
  10. Thanks guys! Every little bit helps in trying to whittle down this $1.075 million bill I just got from Heritage. I`m hurt, hurt I tell you, that none of you guys think I could be the buyer of the Detective 27. We're just celebrating for you...since your GL1 did so well.

  12. It's PGX and it's grade is not reputable as CGC to most collectors. I'm not trying to bash PGX here. For example, someone could actually crack this book out of the PGX holder and send it in express to CGC and if the buyer is not satisfy with the grade, he or she will dispute the purchase with ComicConnect.
  13. that book, I believe, was in a cgc "trimmed" holder not too long ago The previous trimmed 8.5 holder copy had off-white/white pages, which sold on ComicLink over two months ago. This is the previous ComicConnect copy which I have posted about over two weeks ago in the club. It was listed as a raw 8.0 then and it was not even in the PGX holder yet. This copy has a potential risk for any buyers, since there is a possibility it may come back trimmed or restored from CGC. Anybody interested in this copy should bid accordingly.

  15. Actually, you are lucky that the dealer auctioned it off because otherwise the fair thing would have been to sell the book to the collector that was looking at it at the time. Thanks to that greedy dealer or I'll be without this copy That being said, congrats on the purchase. I think the funniest part of your story is the fact that a teenager with a limited budget outbid an adult collector. Sometimes it does not pay to be cheap.
  16. I agree, that's a remarkable price for the CHIPPED copy. Well, at least it had off-white pages. Seems like 5.0+ is still holding up well. That 8.5 press copy was being bid as it was an 8.0 on ComicLink. Imagine if Heritage had that 8.5 press copy in their auction. Here's my 5.0 off-white copy front and back cover. What do you think, better eye appeal? That's a great looking 5.0.. I think it even looks better than the 5.5 on Heritage as the spine creases on on the book looked deep to me Believe it or not...this copy has been in my collection for over 20 years...and the eye appeal is still there. I might have told this story briefly before. In 1988, I was at a Con and saw this copy at dealer booth. It looks decent, and I told the dealer that I may be back with for it. Here is my chance to upgrade my Showcase 22 since my first copy was a coverless copy, which I bought for $12 dollars back then. I had a bit more money now, so that 5.0 copy was more attainable. I made one more round at the con before making my decision to purchase this copy. As I came back to the dealer booth, there was another older collector looking at the SC22. I didn't realize someone else was interested in this copy. I told the dealer quickly, that I have the money to buy it. But the other collector said he want it. The dealer said "let's have an auction". I ended up with the winning bid. I can't believe that a man was bidding against a teenage boy...and I think that was not fare even till todate. The book has great memories to me...and it means the most out of all my SC22 and I'm glad to share it to the club.
  17. That 2.0 will be a good flip for you. You officially have two copies. (thumbs u
