  1. I agree that SC #4 is still a significant book, but it is sort of the FF #1 of the DC Silver Age with SC #22 is turning into the AF #15. That being said, without the early success of SC #4 we would not have seen the return of the super-hero book to prominence until a later date (if at all). Remember, it was not until B&B #28 that Marvel finally got off its butt and came out with FF #1. I've have spoken to many dealers and they said the frenzy and mania in SC22 stampede AF15 in comparison because due to supply. Early Silver Age DC's are definately more scarce than early Silver Age Marvel's. This is definately dued to less collecting exposure (bags, storage, multiple copies buying habits) before 1964. This explains why, early Silver Age DC page quality is lower and is more scarce in high grade.
  2. and 192 graded copies of showcase #4 and that book is still deader than disco. until a flash movie comes out Possibly, but the Flash seems to be a little less compelling of a character than GL. Even the Johns/Van Sciver Flash Rebirth is doing a bit worse than expected from what I have heard. The other thing working against SC #4 is that it is an expensive book to start with? SC #22 is just catching up to its price levels, so it will be harder to move substantially from where it currently sits. Don't get me wrong...Showcase 4 is a very important book. SC 4 has increase 100% the last ten years and that is why the prices is currently stalled. For price wise (not OSPG), Showcase 22 is the second most valued Silver Age DC and the recent sells speak for itself. SC22 has a lot going for it right now: under value, current story lines, movie, and SDCC 2009 exposure (BTW over 125000 attendance). If the run-up for Showcase 22 gets to Showcase 4 prices than it become too pricey. Time will tell if there will ever be a copy graded over 9.0. There is still a lot of price increase potential for SC22. (thumbs u
  3. A year ago, maybe. Now? There are more Showcase 22's for sale than you can shake a stick at. huh a year ago, there were like 50+ copies of SC 22 in the market for sale (mostly low grade)..and they were virtually ALL there week after week after week (I know, because I did daily searches looking for a nice copy for me)...you couldn't turn around without tripping over a dozen of them ...today, I can't even find 5 with a fair amount of looking (one on metro, a super low grade), none on clink, 1 auction on ebay (lower grade), the 5.5 recent ebay auction....none on comic connect, or payette, or any other major dealer site and if one is posted, as someone stated above, it is snatched up almost immediately!!! true, we have traded a bunch of copies on this board, but virtually every copy at SDCC this year was scooped up (at least 30 or so that I saw)... and, yes, I did see about a dozen+ at chicago, but I am sure by now, they are long absorbed... right now, there is virtually NO supply of SC 22 for sale, compared to a year ago...and demand is at a fever (whether justified or not, hype or true demand, etc) I agree with Detective27kid on this. I collectected silver age comics since I was 14 and the first few comics I bought was a Showcase 22 coverless (that's all I could afford) which some have you have seen a page of it on this thread. I have been a market watcher for SC22 for over twenty years and I can brag and say I know this book's history, supply, and value. I've seen many copies through out the years and SC22 and supply was a dime a dozen. But everytime I was offered a copy, it was always 5.0 and under. Even last year, until SDCC you can still find copy on ebay, dealer sites and cons. I don't think anyone could have predicted this surge in demand. If tec27 knew how much demand it was now, he would have kept most of his copies. Nontheless, it order for more supply to surface, the prices to rise, but there is definately a surge in graded copies in the last months.
  4. At least it won't break the bank...but if people don't buy now...it might just will.
  5. Welcome back...I know this is a bit late.
  6. Let's make a comparison: AF 15 is at 1241, Avengers is at 1000, Hulk 1 is at 605, X-men 1 1529, so it is a long way to go to catch up with Marvel Keys...that's if there is that many copies at there.

  11. Very good observations. I think the 4.0 and under has very little room left in the short term. The 5.0 and above has a lot more room and will be very volatile and speculative. Base on these prices, it is selling for higher price than Adventure 247, Avengers 1, Brave & the Bold 28, X-men 1,

  13. You should consider to get this copy graded JohnT. It looks really 6.0++. What does everyone think about this copy? (thumbs u Beautiful book... and avoids the miswrap plaque that so many of these issues have. I agree...it also has rich colors and minor wears.
  14. Wow, 115 views so far in less than 15 hours of listing. Either this thread is good advertising for SC22 or is there lots of people looking for SC22?
  15. At least we know this copy won't sell for less than $3803.64.
  16. There is a Showcase CGC 5.5 on ebay right now. Showcase 22 CGC 5.5 Off-White Pages 1st Green Lantern ebay 150372586385. It's the same copy that ended last week for $3803.64.

  19. Hi Everyone...thank you for all the thumbs up (thumbs u and your patience. Enjoy! Wonderful book! (thumbs u GL's origin is by far, my favorite of the Silver Age. This story has everything...a fearless jet pilot, his pretty lady boss, and the incredible Abin Sur...glactic policeman of Sector 2814... It's such a pleasure to see a clean copy (no offense to everyone else in the club!). Congratulations. I agree that GL's origin is a great one. Very creative. A few days ago I reread 22 and 23, and what struck me most was how much emphasis there was on the romantic tension between Hal and Carol. There's the storyline of Carol refusing to date Hal because she suddenly becomes his boss, but there's also the storyline that she starts falling for Green Lantern. The romance really dominates the stories. Another note: there's a great scene in 22 where GL bursts in on some bad guys and they react by saying "It's not a not a bird, it's not a plane, and it's sure not Superman!" Very unusual for DC to show that kind of humor. "It's not a not a bird, it's not a plane, and it's sure not Superman!" Here's the panel with this quote. This is from my reading coverless copy.
  20. Hal called himself GL in Showcase 22. The Guardians first appeared in Green Lantern 1.
  21. Hi Everyone...thank you for all the thumbs up (thumbs u and your patience. Enjoy! Rich, absolutely gorgeous ! I'm very happy for you and will be PM'ing with an offer ... No kidding, it's a rare event to own a book of that magnitude and importance! (With my hand over my heart...) "In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight! Let those who worship evil's might, beware my power.. Green Lantern's light!" Thanks again everyone for all the (thumbs u "But to be safe, I must use It only in the greatest secrecy! I know--! I'll adopt a secret identity--I'll call myself Green Lantern--after the power battery! "And in time I hope to make Green Lantern a name to be feared by evil doers everywhere!"
