IMO, minor key.  But being a black cover picture frame, it is tough to find truly high grade copies.  Find a copy with nice registration is difficult as well.  I bought my copy the first hour or two when Bob Storms posted this on his website quite a few years ago.  Absolutely love it.

That's a beautiful copy.  Are you surprised it did not receive a 9.4?

  2. I appreciate the comments folks. This is one of the few Marvel comics that I have never owned. In fact I can't remember ever seeing it for sale. I'm sure it was but I never noticed it.

IMO it's not a key for the reasons some of you listed and probably will not go up much in value but for some reason I really want to obtain a high grade copy (9.4 or 9.6) for my personal collection. I love the cover.

  3. If this topic has been discussed before I apologize.  I'm trying to purchase a high grade example for my personal collection and noticed that it's hard to aquire in high grade because of the heavy black border.  As of April 30 there are only 15 copies graded above a 9.4

I'm curious on the boards opinion if this comic would be considered a key?  Recently I posted in the WTB forum for this issue and before I did I can't remember that last time I heard or read of anyone interested in it.

Good question. Put it this way...

These three issues 31-33 are the first important ASM trilogy. 32 may be the least important in that group but it's so interlinked with 33 that I have a hard time divorcing them so I'm being inclusive. 32/33 represent a major step up in Peter's development. He is forced to take off the diapers and grow up for the first time. There is real adversity being faced here both physically and emotionally by Peter essential getting put on the ropes! Look at it from the perspective of someone reading this for the first time back in the day. It's not clear that nobody dies in comics or that ASM will last forever. The reader doesn't know that so how are they not 100% compelled by this story?! From that perspective there appears to be a serious possibility that spider-man DOES NOT rid himself of that giant hunk of metal and ends up drowning. There is a real possibility Aunt May does not replace the radioactive blood threatening her life. His physical and emotional strength are both tested.

The human aspect of these 2 issues is powerful whether you're a fan or not! Even if someone is not into comics at all but reads asm33 for the first time they'd be hard pressed not to find it emotionally compelling. I've read 33 maybe a million times and I still get a lump in my throat every time! Never fails! I don't know any spidey fan that wouldn't. So my main criteria for something being a key is what's happening inside the pages. These 2 issues in particular could have a blank page as the cover and I'd still consider them keys! This panel I'm including is as powerful as it gets!

Aside from that, Ditkos artwork took a huge step up after #30 for whatever reason. Look at the first 5 pages of 33. I think its his finest work as an artist. Maybe they revealed Ock too soon as being the Planner they could have waited little for more impact but whatever, that's just a minor detail.

Overall I probably included a few more than I could have in that list I made. I could have widdled it down some like 298 but I love Mcfarlane too much. But 32 33 are firmly in place as keys imo (thumbsu

Thanks for your great response.  Very detailed with a lot of great information.

There are always people who take it upon themselves to try to convince the rest of us that the discussion is over. Message boards don't work that way. Well, unless the mods get involved ;) Discussions have a lifespan and that lifespan should be allowed to continue on its own. Sometimes it's long and sometimes it's short. The point is that the boards will determine when the discussion is done, or if it keeps going, or if it dies and then gets reignited. That's how it works. That's how it should work.

I was giving my opinion.  If you folks want to continue to discuss then please have at it.

Can we please stop with this. Its just ridiculous. People are selling and buing comic books. If issues arise they get talked about. We don't ignore it because more important things are going on in the world. There are ALWAYS more important things going on in the world.

The point is the topic has already been discussed ample times.  We have all the information and IMO there is no reason to keep discussing it.  The facts have shown the Professor did not pull a scam and yes there are a lot more important things to discuss/worry about.  We have 6 pages of discussion and it's not fair to the professor for this to keep going on.  He did nothing wrong and made a judgement call which is his right.

    I hate when this happens!

Matter of fact, it's a imaginary police in my head saying "Buy this book, buy that book, bwahahaha"

In all seriousness you are in the right, if the address on the paypal account doesn't match the address they want you to ship the book too, it sounds downright suspect. You have no idea who you are shipping the book too.

They could have got that guys paypal account and laundered the money through a comic book, and if it did turn out to be a fraud then you are stuck with the bill and no comic book!

Now if it's on the other hand that you got a better deal and that is why you closed the deal, then that is your fault.

But only you know your own heart.

    2c

I have some knowledge on this deal.  Everything the Professor is saying is correct.  He listed the comic for $1850 and sold it to the buyer for $1,700.  The deal fell through when the buyer wanted to use a different address.  The Professor did nothing wrong folks.  He did not personally know the buyer and it's his right to use caution and not go through with the deal.

Does anyone else here love date stamps as much as I?

To be honest, if I had the choice of a VF silver age book with a date stamp and a VF copy of the same book without, I am taking the date stamp. Something about em just adds to the nostalgia of the book for me.

Post some of your favourite date stamps that you own here!

Personally I like them but I would never again buy a comic for investment purposes if it has a date stamp.   My daughter got married last year and I had to sell ample comics.  I sold pretty much everything at or close to GPA except for my date stamps comics and they were all keys. I was lucky to get 80% of GPA for the comics with date stamps.

I understand that you want to only hear yourself speak.  Sure the book may have been on an upswing for years...but by no means did it ever increase or spike like it did once the announcement
of appearing on a TV show occured.

So yeah, I understand the market just fine.  It's exactly the same as it has been for years, sheep chasing a book due to another lame character appearing in a show or movie.

I understand perfectly.... I sold so much crappy Star Wars comics at ridiculous prices because I know there are "comic investors" who think they are going to retire on this junk.

I loved selling 20+ copies of Star Wars #1 for over $2,000 USD when the new trilogy was going to be released and loved when I could sell all these $1.00 Star Wars books for $250 to $300 each because the cover had "The Last Jedi" written on the cover.

I love that Star Wars helps rope people into paying stupid prices.

I'm just curious if you can provide any proof that you sold 20 + copies of Star Wars #1 for over $2,000?  We actually have a bet going (guys at work since we are bored) if you are telling the truth or making up stuff to make your argument look better.  I got 3-1 odds that you are telling the truth so hopefully you can prove it since my money is on you.

  10. I have watched the Walking Dead since the first episode and I will continue watching until the end but there is no denying the show has been on the downturn for the last couple of years.  Years ago my entire family watched every episode together (7 of us).  Currently I'm the only one watching.  The same goes for my work buddies.  I work in law enforcement and we had a group of about 10 guys that watched every week.  Just like my family they all stopped watching.

The main reason is the show has become so politically correct.  There is no chance if this was real life the people would be taking orders from the people who are currently in charge.  It's almost like the producers are trying to ruin the show.  They have already lost half their audience and I think this is only the beginning.  Hopefully things will change.
