Did you know that was a game changer? Did you know to buy multiple copies?
I was 5 or 6 and my dad was the one buying me comics. He was a die-hard DC guy and he instilled my love of Batman, Supes, the Legion and the JLA. He read all the comics (probably before he gave them to me - lol) and he DID NOT LIKE Marvel. He did his best to keep me happy, and I apparently made it very clear that X-Men and the Avengers were my absolute favorites. Out of GS 1-UXM 112 I only missed 98 and 108 (I think). After that he was more sporadic about buying them and then I got my own subscriptions around 1984. As a 6 year old, I knew the X-Men were special.

Hi! I’m just wondering if the grade of a signed book really matters in terms of value? Patrick Stewart is doing a signing with Everest Autographs. (The guy who runs it used to work for Officalpix.) Long story short I found some signed books with the entire cast on galaxy on. The high grade ones are for way more than I’m willing to spend $3000 for a 9.1. They do have a 4.0 comic book with 8 of the 9 for much less that I’m considering. Again I’m just wondering how much of the grade really matters when it’s the signatures that bring it real value. Hope I’m making sense
There are no comic books that would be appropriate for Patrick Stewart to sign that cost $300 let alone $3000. Please do some due diligence. The photo cover Star Trek Books or an ST:NG #1 can all be found in CGC 9.8 for less than $300. That would be my suggestion. Buy an 9.8 book and get it cracked and graded. For rare sigs and rare books, grade shouldn't mater, but it does. Just like it does on sketch covers. Your investment will be best protected and regarded with a 9.8.

His stuff isn't reigniting due to young people loving it and it's not like he is tapping into current politics or fashions so I don't think it has legs. Great art is all over the place (ie Art Adams stuff is way better) but you don't see people paying 5x prices for his stuff all the sudden.
Art Adams is "way better" than Dave Stevens? Well, art is subjective, but objectively, you are wrong.

CGC is going to be present at Monster-Mania in Cherry Hill, NJ but they will not have SS witnesses.
I inquired about this with the SS team and was told in response message:
“CGC will be present at Monster-Mania, however the SIgnature Series team will not be in attendance. If you would like items signed at the show, there will be several Signature Series Authorized Facilitators in attendance who can serve as a witness for you.”
Question: Will I have to pay additional fees to other “authorized facilitators” to get signatures authenticated for yellow SS card grading on comics I’d like to get signed on?
My gut feeling is that this is going to be a major cash grab with me having to pay per signature for witness authentication.
Does anyone have info. to share from past experience?
I paid at NYCC for Jim Lee to sign seven of my books, only to find after the signing that I then needed to pay some company working with Jim Lee I believe $25 per book to literally walk it ten feet to CGC’s submission table, so that the signatures “would still be authenticated.”
It was disgusting they hit me for almost $200 just to carry my books 10 feet to CGC table.
I want to respond to this, and I will try to be 100% non-snarky, which will be a challenge for me. First and foremost, I understand that everyone wants to get their books put together for the best price possible, because stuff is just expensive. But for the presence of the facilitators at shows without witnesses, however, there would be no SS. Those facilitators have travel expenses, booth fees, wages for their agents and all the other expenses involved in being there. If they can't charge for their attendance and their service, then, again, there is no SS. So if you don't want to pay their fees, then don't. If you want to negotiate a bulk discount, go for it. But it is not fair to say they should eat all those expenses just so you can get your SS books done without "disgusting" "cash grab" fees.

This thread is spectacular. I had a six year hiatus from buying comics from the middle of '92 to the middle of '98. These boxes are reminding me of how fun it was to be getting back into comics in mid '98 after the big crash, when the industry was just starting to dust itself off and focus on producing good materials and not bad girl chromium lenticular holocovers. I am just loving it.

Aquateers Meet the Super Friends (1979) mini-comic (5" x 6") in original packaging with googles!
Once thought to be a myth, Ian Levine, who compiled a complete set of DCs, called this thing extremely rare and it was one of the last comics he picked up. Very rarely seen - let alone in the original packaging. Anyone know the census count? I can't find it. But its a real comic that is reprinted in the Super Friends Saturday Morning Comics v. 1.
Condition? You can see everything I can. There are no rips or tears on the comic, there is a rip in the packaging in the punch hole. The packaging has some discoloration likely from dust, etc, and is tanned on the back. The plastic is dented part of the packaging has some dents and appears discolored in spots. I cannot tell if the comic has any discoloration. It does not appear faded based on the pic of the comic on the GCD and the packaging has what appear to be vibrant original colors. From I can see the comic is not nm-m, at least without a CCS treatment (if you buy it that's a choice you get to make). I really can't guess on the grade other than to say I'd be surprised if it was less than VG and not surprised it was higher. But with an item this rare are condition nuances even an issue?
A cool item. I've searched for a long time for one. It was fun search but in the end its just luck to find something this rare. I got lucky, but I think it needs to go to someone who needs it for their collection!
PRICE DISCOUNTED: $390 or best offer
Here's the back of the packaging to the extent that matters:

I'm leaning that way. Have already reached out to Heritage and they responded. It's scary with the no reserve thing, but also sounds like a really interesting and fun experience. Thank you for the advice! Have you ever auctioned through them?
I never have. I had a Cap 110 come back 9.8 and I auctioned that through Pedigree. I have done one auction with Comiclink as well. Both were fine. Most of what I have sold I did here on the boards or though @GACollectibles who is handling a massive consignment for me.

Ha yes I joked with my friends that this one might be on the heritage auction with the live person . It is hard to value, and so also hard to decide whether to go the auction vs sale route. Thank you for the compliment! I'm truly beside myself.
For my 2 cents - I would put it on the highest profile auction I could, as quickly as I could. It is not a key, but it is a very highly collected series and there are only 5 of them. Who knows how many with White Pages? Let it rip and get paid.

YOU GUYS, I knew I was holding something extremely special in my hands when this book arrived, but I wasn't expecting this! I don't even know what to say because I'm freaking out, so I won't say anymore until I've fully digested this.
I had some idea when two days ago CGC was like "Oh we just charged you an extra $1200 in high value fees", but really am beside myself.
I feel like this is a once-in-a-lifetime privilege, to have held a silver age 9.8 like this in my hands raw, as well as to be its owner. I'm just so grateful. Thanks, everyone!
This is a really interesting book. At least as it relates to GPA reporting sales, the last 9.8 sold 12 years ago for $9650 and there was a sale of a 9.6 for over 20k last year. It seems like there could be some massive pent up demand for a 9.8 WP. Book is an absolute smokeshow.

Both are confirmed real signatures. Also, a CGC witness can literally be anyone who applies for the role. They then have carte blanche and are not supervised by CGC.
The colour of the label already doesnt distinguish between a book that is part of a CGC sig event where its officially a CGC rep that witnesses it and a sig witnessed by joe schmo at a con. Both mean that CGC sees the sig as being legit. So if the goal of authentification is the same, legitimizing s signature, then why should the label be any different?
Because authentication by its very nature is different. I saw John Doe sign this is different than I think John Doe signed this.

I have a good amount of qualified books like many of you but there is a HUGE difference between authentication and witnessing. I’m praying CGC realizes this and doesn’t cannibalize their own Signature Series program
This is perfectly stated. Since the authentication horse appears to have left the barn, the main issue remaining is upholding the strength of the Yellow label and providing some sort of delineation or difference. They probably will incorporate Yellow to give the authenticated books the benefit of the Yellow label's goodwill, but I hope there is an orange or other color stripe for authenticated books.

It's fantastic. That era of comics is my absolute sweet spot as well. Well done, my man.
