  1. Knowing that, why would anyone leave the tape on the bag when they pull the comic out? Anyone that does deserves to have the tape stick to the front of the comic. True, but have you ever tried taking tape off mylar? Not pretty.
  2. I believe tape of any kind is a danger to my precious comic books. I don't want it anywhere near my collection. How many times do you have to flirt with disaster pulling a book out of a bag having to pass by "the tape gauntlet" every time before people stop putting tape near their books. Haven't we all been burned at one time or other?
  3. This thread should be stickied. It could be regularly updated as new scanners come available and the question comes up soooo much. Anyone who has sold a lot of comics knows how valuable a good scanner situation can be. Time savings alone is huge and I think the tutorial video (page 4) by comicwiz alone is super valuable. 4. Good stuff, Mark. Keep up the good fight! In olden days, this guy would've been run out of town.
  5. Can't agree with you more. I don't personally think the label means much more than a ballpark for the grade I'm looking for (given the variation in grading). But you're correct about the preservation problems with the CGC holder, something that nobody seems to want to talk about. Comics date back before the 1940's. That's 70+ years of preservation, of which only the last 10 or so has the CGC been a part of our hobby. I don't personally own an Action 1 or even Amazing Fantasy 15 in high grade but if I did, and I wanted to keep it in good condition for the next 30 years of living with me, I wouldn't keep it in a CGC Slab. SCS or otherwise. The label is good for a ballpark estimation of grade. That's it. And chasing "highest graded" books is a fool's errand, short term and long term.
  6. Wow! Usually this sort of thing ends in tears and hard feelings but this time it had a happy ending. Congratulations, Ian (6 years belated) on getting your impossibly rare book.
  7. This is one of my favorite threads of all time. Thanks for all the great photos and posts.
  8. if you like PC 71, then you will likely like PC 73...MW also did Fight 76 which I think is pretty cool...I also have a wings 124 which I believe whitman did (not his best, but still enjoyable)...his run of Ranger covers in the 60's has some cool ones as well ... but, my favorite of all whitman covers is Man O' Mars # 1...check it out (thumbs u Wow! I just checked out Man O' Mars #1 and it is now a must have. Thanks for the great recommendations. You're the man!
  9. Dear Gator, Planet Comics 71 is one of my favorite covers by Maurice Whitman. Can you recommend other books by Maurice Whitman that stand out to you?
  10. it doesn't exist. #2 is my fave; here's the trolley. Wow! It's like a Captain America/Nick Fury hybrid. Have to go back to these in the photojournals...
  11. I agree, the Avengers square bound looks like an improvement. Did you notice any loss of gloss or color at all?
