  1. Ah yes, the old L.B. Cole "fish in the face" cover. If someone threatens you with a gun and you have a fish, it's no problem. Just throw it at his face and it'll foul his shot. Who knew? Nice pick up, sir! (thumbs u
  2. Those are incredible books. I don't know what else to say. Just incredible. That Detective 5 is stunning. And so is the More Fun. Awesome books, sir.
  3. Hepcat, those Indian Chiefs are unbelievable! Great posts.
  4. Nice work. Craig Flessel is in my top 5 early Golden Age artists. Really special stuff. (thumbs u
  5. Suwheet copy of a cool book And, it has a Bill Parker story no less. Imagine, one of our very own boardies wrote a key comic book That's awesome! The question now is, will it be cracked? A 6.0? Captain Marvel wants to show you his powers in person. You need to see his exploits and smell the paper that gives you this beautiful story. Don't you want to read Bill Parker's story? Or don't. Either way. Also, it looks like it might be pretty glossy. Won't know until it's out
  6. That girl on the far right is faking it. I don't think she's really that into the comic. She's just making it look good for the camera. Probably thought she was going to be the next Shirley Temple. And the girl in the front is irritated because she doesn't like having her picture taken while she's trying to read a comic. And frankly, who does... who does? I'm not even going to comment on the poindexter reading Francis Mule except to say the school yard was a hard place for him as a kid. He probably had to grow up fast if he was going to survive. But secretly, he still likes Francis Mule to this day. He just can't tell anybody about it.
  7. Jimbo, you're cracking me up tonight. Could be that I also just got the best news I've had in months also. But you're making me laugh, sir. (thumbs u
  8. This is an awesome copy of incredibly hard to find book, and in grade, no less. Great pickups all, Mark.
  9. That's a great book and a nice looking copy. Good work, sir! (thumbs u
  10. This thing is too cool to be posted in just one thread. I've always loved early Steve Ditko art and this one has two stories by him inside. The cover is not about a story involving Gwen Stacy's mom and a young J. Jonah Jameson, although you can see how I made that mistake. In fact the cover has very little to do with any of the interior stories but it's still cool. The best $70 pick up on ebay in quite a while for me.
  11. Nice stuff, Mr. Illmannered. I've always loved that Impact run but could never get the copy of #1 that I wanted. I got this about a month ago. A book I'd never seen before. Early Ditko wonderfulness, I'm pretty sure that the cover story is about a young J. Jonah Jameson adventure. But, I haven't read it yet. I could be wrong. And here is a recent addition to my ECs Doesn't he look much happier out of the slab? It's hard to tell but I think it made a difference. Johnny Craig rocks!
  12. +1. Always have been. Great books, as always, cheetah.
  13. Simply awesome room, Hepcat! Nothing better than listening to good music on great hifi while reading some comics. (thumbs u
  14. I love that Crime Suspenstories, cheetah. I don't remember the last time I saw Gaines copies of CSS 16-24. Anyone else?
  15. Disclosure I just like the fact that he read it. I've been too afraid to read mine but I feel a little emboldened now. I think I'm going to read that Frontline Combat 8... very carefully.
  16. No. They don't do that with any COAs. Well, in the case of the Gaines' books, they were ranked 1 through 12 and it would be interesting to see how the CGC grades compared. I owned the #2 Piracy set and then upgraded to #1 when it became available... Sold them many years back. Some of the #1 Piracy copies were not the highest after being CGC graded. clink had the set (ungraded) and when I inquired about the price it was way too much for what I knew the variance in grades was likely to be. I know of many cases where the certificates were intentionally switched by both dealers & collectors in order to sell a "lower number" Gaines copy. At this point, it really does not matter if you got copy #1, 5, 8, or whatever. As long as it is a Gaines copy, that's what is important. Timely, you and Adam Strange both, are always appreciated for your insight and knowledge. This all makes a lot of sense. (thumbs u
  17. Yeah, I've tried to sort out the same thing. From what little I can see, the original ranking does not correspond to CGCs grades. Probably due to lower copies enduring the whole press and resubmit game, variations in grading over time, etc.
  18. (thumbs u CGC Census: 4 in 9.8, 3 in 9.6, 1 in 9.4, 1 in 9.2 and 1 in 9.0 I know, I've looked at the census also but I almost never see higher grade copies offered for sale. I think most GFCs are locked up in collections and there are very few out there outside of the pedigree. Or maybe it's just that I can't afford them when they do come around.
  19. This is a crazy hard book to find in grade. Cheetah, absolutely stunning ECs, man. I love seeing the books you post here. (thumbs u
  20. Isn't that the truth. BTW, you've been nailing down some pretty impressive books on a wide front, sir. That set of ECs you posted a little while ago still stuns me. As you know, the earliest ones are the hardest. Good stuff. Can't wait to see what you take down going forward. (thumbs u
  21. Who doesn't love Bernie Krigstein? I've been looking for that book for quite a while now. Nice post, Adam!
  22. I can get in on this. This book is now liberated and enjoying it's role in my little community of ECs Thunder Jet, baby!
