  1. I was watching that too. I assumed they got an offer they couldn't refuse. :(

    It stinks. :frustrated:

That's frustrating. I bet the seller was bombarded with so many inquires and I won't be surprise it will end up be a in CGC holder and up for auction in the future.

    :(

My other theory was that as well. That the seller might not have known what they had and when they saw the interest perhaps they realized that it is a valuable book.

I would not be surprised either. And by then it will command a "ton" of $$$ to obtain most likely.

    MYSTERY SOLVED!

I finally got a response from the seller:

"Thank you very much for your interest in my Detective Comics, number 35, Batman issue.

I was so inundated with so many questions concerning so many aspects of the condition of this comic which I just could not answer. One Ebayer was kind enough to advise me that I would be better of, since I know nothing about comics, to send it to CGC for appropriate grading instead od providing Ebayers with my own, perhaps incorrect, grading of this comic.

Please contact me in a few days and I will let you know what the grading is and what I plan to do with this comic book.

    Thank you again."

Also sent me a message with their e-mail and told me to e-mail in a few days.

    hm

    That's good DETECTIVE work Bat-Man. (thumbs u

I'm interested to see if they do send it to cgc. And what the grade is. As with any book CGC makes a transaction safer for both the buyer and seller! (Also might drive the price up!)

That will be true...no ifs or buts. Looks like it will be a universal grade.

Yeah it does, might turn out to be a stunner. I am glad they are thinking cgc because when I inquired about specifics I was left with more questions than answers. Like she called the covers "wrappers" and things like that which really confused me.

  4. It is a joke but would a letter like this be out of the realm of reasonableness for any of the folks doing auctions in this day and age?

That is exactly about how heritage does it though. I knew you were kidding but I would not doubt anything now-a-days. Who knows perhaps that scenario did play out.

    We'll see in April lol

A while back, I have seen ComicLink tried to purpose someone on ebay to sell there high grade Tales of Suspense 39 on their auction site.

(tsk) Comiclink and others should really not do that. Wish they wouldn't

Everyone wants a piece of the pie. Here's to CL when they did that :makepoint: It's a fast and furious market...so be careful. Collect what you enjoy and you will be a winner. ^^

    So true! :whee:

  7. Dear Helen and Pop,

We noticed the Detective 35 you had for sale and wanted to advise you on the opportunity for this rare and valuable comic. While you may finish the auction through ebay, we'd recommend you go through our auctions site which is exclusive to high end comics such as yours. We have a buyers list of over 10,000 clients who have purchased comics worth over $1000. We recently sold a Detective Comic #27 for over $1 Million dollars.

If you decide to submit your comic through our auction services we can give you a special offer reducing our auction fee by 20%. There are quite a few steps you will need to take and that we can walk you through in order to maximize the sale of your Detective 35. We'd be happy to help. If you decide to finish the auction through ebay, we do wish you good luck. Please let us know as soon as possible as our next auction concludes in April.

Have a great day and we hope to hear from you soon.

    Signed

    THE WONDERFUL FOLKS AT HERITAGE

That is a cool Batman with a smoking gun. Kids must have loved reading and looking at that issue back then. Yeah, that's a big $$$$ money book. That 6.5 on CL sold for a bundle last year.

35's cover is incredible. And the splash is equally incredible. It's a very solid book. And is firmly my 2nd fav book of the Pre-Robins.

Going to be a trouble finding one.

  10. Anyone know the deal on the Tec 35 that got pulled on ebay? Scam?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160408598921&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I am so annoyed at this. I tried contacting the seller and asked why it was pulled but got no response.

Got an offer he couldn't refuse? If you could work out a deal and avoid as many fees as possible, why not? ebay rules be damned.

 Probably true. I hate that. Looking through the seller's other items for sale it would seem they are an antique seller. Maybe they just stumbled upon this book somewhere (luckiest find ever) and do not know comics. If they did sell it under the table the buyer may have gotten a real steal on it. :sorry:

  11. Very pleased with this ebay gamble! It needs a centerfold, but is otherwise just dandy. :)

I figure any week that includes a new single-digit Superman can't be all bad.

    (Can I get an amen?)

    Yes you can! A-MEN! lol

Nice book, I don't think you can ever go wrong with a single digit supes! :headbang:

  12. It seems to be the place for all things old and eclectic.

Let's see more eclectic examples from everyone's collection.

I have lots of unusual stuff.

This is an unused French game board chromolithograph (22 x 30") from the early 1900's that was found in a printer's archive.

Anyone else have anything to share?

    That's very cool! (thumbs u

Sadly I don't have much else to share other than comics and old magazine/newspapers. (shrug)

  13. One of my favorite covers from the tec run seems to an allusive one. One of my favorite villians and he get's no play in the comics world. Buncha hang ol haters.

If you thought what a crack those lines was you coulda skipped it and already be drooling over your lap top.

    great cover (thumbs u

  14. I figure a 5.0 tec 31 is a 23-25K book

    a 5.0 batman 1 is a $40K+ book...

value wise, winner is clear cut bat 1

if I am going for value, I take the Bat 1. But, I'm not a big Robin fan (Joker is cool--but he was taken from stories original intended for Tec comics anyway) and I prefer the pure, Dark Knight---solo style

    :headbang:

  15. This place is turning into a Tec 31 thread!

Offhand, I didn't see if someone responded to the question I posted earlier but what is the market like on coverless copies of this book? I haven't seen any on eBay or any of the major dealer sites. Wasn't sure if any of you have seen sales on it or not.

I am pretty sure someone said it would be around 3K for a coverless one :o

yep, there were multiple response I believe, in that neighborhood (thumbs u

In my defense, it IS the end of the marking period and my seniors are draining the brainpower out of me with all of their blasted neediness.

    :foryou::blush:

That being the case, I find it really interest as well because a .5 PR copy of Batman runs about the same price. Now, if you remove the defining characteristic of the Tec 31's value (the cover), do you think it SHOULD be worth the same as a book the contains the first appearances of Batman's two most important villains?

    hm

Tec 31 is a cover driven book 1st, and interior value 2nd. If the 31 cover was ho hum ("normal"), I'd say the 29 and 33 and 35 would be valued at more across in all grades...

    Really?

No offense to 29, 33 (except the origin), and 35. All have great stories. But personally 31/32 has the best pre-robin story in my opinion. A two part story that ends with Batman shooting his enemies in cold blood to finish them off once and for all.

the 31 story is GREAT. Better than the 33 Bat story. The 31 would not be valued as it is today (or as coveted IMO) if it did not have that castle cover. 2c

I never really thought about it before in those terms. But I agree that the cover makes it. All the top Pre-Robins are based off which one has a Bats cover and even then the stars are 29 and 31 with 35 as the rising star.

But luckily we do not have to wonder whether or not 31 would be what it is without the cover. Because lucky for us the 31 does have the defining Bat cover and an incredible story. Besides 27, 31 is hands down my 2nd most desired Tec of them all! (thumbs u
