The CGC label on X-Men 4 says "1st appearance of Omega Red"
Works for me.
So are we now saying that CGC doesn't make mistakes?
I agree that 4 will be considered his first but so should The Annual and possibly the What if
Now that I went back and read what was in Annual #1, I have to disagree.
The first is in the simulator as part of the backup story "X-Men's Top Ten Villains" drawn by Karl Altstaetter. Omega Red was listed as #5, right behind Apocalypse. So does that mean they had already fought (e.g. X-Men #4)?Wolverine had no idea who Omega Red was until X-Men #4, when he picked up his scent and realized it was Arkady Rossovich, someone he knew from this past. So in Annual #1 where he now discusses Omega Red, this would have to be after-the-fact because beforehand he didn't even know the character.
See what I mean?
Hopefully this made sense. From a timing perspective, it would be odd for Wolverine to brief someone on Omega Red in a 1st appearance when he doesn't even know who the character is until X-Men #4.
Now if this was the Gambit situation where the books were published out-of-synch, that would be a different story.
In this case I don't think the plot points matter, they were released at the same time.
Does anyone really know if they were actually released at the same time? Given the fact that comic books are shipped to comic shops on a weekly basis, isn't it possible that X-Men #4 was actually released 1-2 weeks before the Annual?

PS. JLI #40 is one of the most gut wrenching comics I have ever read. #38-41 is one of the best arcs in comics. So very, very underrated.
Agreed 100%!
The storyline with Despero was simply amazing and a nice change of pace from the usual stories of the title. Giffen and DeMatteis proved they could do "serious" stories on a very high level (not that there was anything wrong with the bwa-ha-ha stories in the previous issues, which were marvelous as well).

To Whom It May Concern,
My father is currently away for the Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family.
Just for the record my dad is not knowledgeable with a computer, as this man Frank, his friend, trying to do harm to him, very well knows. We are trying to get somewhat familiar with this board and around this site. I am especially trying to do this in order to make sure that this man does not take any further liberty with his words as he has already done. In several places he has attempted to draw an untrue and distorted picture of their relationship as friends to telling lie’s for his benefit, while leaving out his attempt to double charge my father for a book already paid for us.
Even on Thanksgiving Day itself out of the blue he began to accuse my dad of stealing books, Spider-man comic book. Out of the blue, this is not rational and I am not sure why my dad was friends with this guy or still thinks this man ever was a friend but he better wake up. There are many bad people in this world and in my opinion this guy is one of them. He has slapped my fathers hand away over and over for almost nothing. The funny thing is he stole and even tried to cheat my father.
Frank Bearss has left things out of his complaint and put things in to make him seem to be honorable. He has done this believing none of us would find this board and come to my dad’s aid.
Though this man try’s to portray, there was no good friendship here and that nothing came about between my father and this man, it is by his own admission he helped my dad in the past and even put money up for him? For another person, in today’s world to do that it sounds like more than just business partners” and hope that the Jaybuck picked up on that. This was done many times not once, oh geez by accident.
I am sure a review of these communications will also show there was no stress in regard to time frame and books purchased.
I am as bad as my dad when it comes to writing and posting and actually had written something just now, more direct but lost it all.
I am sure when my dad returns home on Monday and as needed, I will try to e mail him and help him in any way I am able but I am sure he will somehow learn where this is to submit his post’s, if that is the process. I am also sure that my father based on the distortion and lie’s submitted will bring this man into the light for what he truly is. Good Night
I can't make sense out of this. And I've read it twice
What the hell is happening on these boards? Every day is like Friday, lately!

A Complete Lowlife is early work by him. He writes and draws and it's not that great, but it is really interesting. It's autobiographical about him doing drugs and stuff like that.
It's about a million times better than any superhero work he's done.
Another excellent Brubaker comic (probably his best work, IMHO) is The Fall, with artwork by Jason Lutes. Anyone who hasn't checked it out, definitely should!

This is one of the most enjoyable and informative threads in a long time. Congrats, Cpt Kirk!
(And yes, of course you've gone insane, but as others mentioned before, it's a good kind of insanity which most of us can identify with. (thumbs u )

I know Ernst Gerber has passed but I am not sure when. I did a ton of internet searches to no avail trying to find when he passed, but I think it was some years ago.It sucketh the internet is not more revealing on this.
If my memory isn't entirely faulty, I believe it was somewhere in the mid-90s. Maybe around '95-'96 or so.
After a bit of googling, it appears that my memory was, indeed, faulty.
I don't think any publication in the world of comic books can equal his Photo Guides.Amen! (thumbs u

Shouldn't "Unique" mean, by definition, only one?
The actual reference in Gerber's Scarcity Index is as follows:
10. Unique. Or close to it. Less than 5 known copies in existence.

I decided to check out the local flea market and kill some time yesterday morning.
This flea market that I go to never really has any comic stuff. Most of the time it's estate sale jewelry or local fresh baked goods. But this time I saw two different vendors with random comic boxes.
I picked up 23 books for $20. Here is a quick snap of them
$20 for all 23 books? The Adventure #257 probably costs close to that in this condition. That was a sweet deal. (thumbs u

Thanks for the welcome, folks! And I like seeing those Congo Bill covers. A 1950s esoteric DC thread would be cool. What other series might be included?
Phantom Stranger
Congo Bill
Frontier Fighters
Legends of Daniel Boone
Charlie Chan
Star Spangled (Dr. 13 issues)
Sensation Mystery
Others?
Danger Trail
It's Game Time
Gang Busters
Mr. District Attorney
Rex the Wonder Dog
Big Town

That picture is like trying to find waldo...and these are all $1.99?
But I do see a Magnus 12 (first appearance of turok), grab that for sure. Any pre-unity and late issues are definitely worth picking up. I think I see Magnus 2? If that's the case, grab it, I would wager the coupon is inside.
Also, newsstand issues/price variants, grab those as well. If you do go back, and don't mind writing down each Valiant book, I'll tell you whether it's worth it to buy.
It is kinda funny seeing all those 90s books just tossed on the rack, .
There's a Magnus #1 at the lower right of the first picture.

how do you politely point out to someone with a FS thread that they can't grade worth a spoon? or do you just ignore the thread and hope others can figure it out for themselves?
It's usually pretty evident when you have VF+ with monster spider creases.
If I understand (and I'm almost sure I do) which book you're talking about, it's pretty obvious that the top edge alone would knock if off VF territory.
Then again, the "f" and "g" keys are next to each other. The seller might've meant VG+
(Not likely, based on most of the other grades, but still... )

Ooh. The last post was a bit cynical. What an .
Which post are you referring to? If you're referring to my post, there is nothing cynical about it. I was dead serious - that is exactly how I do it. I also put two sheets of mcp next to both covers.
I'm pretty sure he's jokingly referring to his own post and his jab at Comics General.
Thanks for responding to this. Since, mine was one of the more recent posts I didn't want him (or anyone else) to think I was being cynical. I really do bag my "better" books the way I described.
I've seen others do the same thing. It feels slightly overkill to me, but I can't say I don't get it. In any case, more protection is never a bad thing. (thumbs u
Alas, 99% of my Golden and Silver Age books are mid-grade or lower, so this method is probably unnecessary for me, anyway. A single M2 with a fullback/halfback will suffice.

Why is this series always found in mid grade or lower? Any theories?
I think this goes for most of the non-superhero DCs from the 50s. Probably because not many people collected them (or took very good care of them) through the decades.

Don't know how hard it may actually be, but Lone Star has all four issues for about a dollar each.
I have them too. Bought them when they came out.

I received a bunch of early Valiant books from Claudio. Communication was smooth, all the books were graded tightly and the packages arrived quickly and safely. (thumbs u
Superb packing skills, as well. These packages were practically bomb-proof!
I'll also add that he seems like a really great guy (even though he's not related to Francesca Piccinini, as I was hoping ).

Hoping for AWE, but SHOCK will do.
We want both!

on a different note, someone is trying to sell a book right now saying theirs is the ONLY one with WHITE PQ... and thats not true.
(I've come across 3 others just looking at GPA data)
lesson is, don't believe everyone's sales pitch, and do your own research.
I'm not saying this is necessarily the case here (since I don't know which book or sales thread you're referring to), but it might simply be a situation where the seller doesn't know about there being other WP copies, or him/her being misinformed, for some reason.
I think that a polite email to the seller explaining the mistake might be a good idea in this case.

Cool cover and a tough one in high grade, sadly mine is not a high grade copy
Looks great to me.
Unfortunately, that is pretty much as "high grade" I can personally go for 50s and early 60s DC war. That is, if I wanna get more than 1 issue per year.

Question - if two board members do a deal that turns sour outside of the boards can I still put the board member on the probation list?
If I am the buyer and the I make a deal with the seller and then the seller tells another buyer that the piece is sold but then the other buyer makes a higher offer and then the seller comes back to me and asks for more and I refuse and then the seller decides to sell to the other buyer, can I put that seller on the probation list?
No. But you can out him and call him the scumbag he is . . .
I agree with this.
I'm not 100% certain such an offense is/should be "probation worthy" (though if it was put to a vote, mine would probably be "yes"), but personally. as a buyer on these boards. I'd definitely want to know who the seller was so that I'd never buy from them in the future.

Here's the thing: many time I read on sales threads that shipping within the USA is free and international buyers pays exact shipping. Should a seller that offer free domestic shipping offering a similar discount on international shipping cost?
That's an interesting one.
Is the question whether the cost of domestic shipping should be reduced from the cost of the international, so as to provide as much "freeness" to the int'l as the domestics get?
Yes.
Say it cost about $10 to ship USA and it's included in the BIN price, but it cost $30 to go to Europe (or wherever), then the overseas extra shipping price should be $20.
I've seen many sellers do exactly that.
And it makes me happy.

Hehehe, I like to think I'm no different from you guys...except for the extra weight on my chest. Oh and I don't um...have the same "equipment" as most of you do.
Just checked out your home page image gallery.
