  1. Anybody know the first print runs of Hate and Eightball, especially the early issues, say the first five to ten?

    I really have no idea. 2000? 5000? 10,000+?

It took me a few years to complete sets of both in first printings, and Eightball took alot longer than Hate. I had to settle for VF range copies for the first eight or nine issues of Eightball in first print.

I'm guessing maybe first prints of Schizo, Black Hole, Dork and Angry Youth Comix could also be tough to find. (Not impossible, just tough.)

I have a vague recollection of an interview Dan Clowes gave to the Comics Journal, sometime in the early to mid 90s (maybe 1994?), where he mentioned Eightball selling somewhere between 15,000 and 20,000 copies.

I could be wrong about this - but I really don't think so.

  2. Mort the Dead Teenager?

Nope, that drekky title went only four issues and it is noted in the Overstreet Guide.

And as a fan of 90s Marvel drek, I'm proud to say I have the full four issue run.

    :acclaim:

    Any other guesses?

    Little Mermaid?

    4 issues. In the Guide.

The 4-issue series that is included in Overstreet is published by Disney Comics.

The 12-issue Marvel series I'm talking about is this one. And it's not in the guide. :sumo:

OK, I think I found another one! WCW: World Championship Wrestling.

    We have a weiner! :applause:

Also, all 12 issues sported Photo covers....most of which are very dark, and a beyatch in high grade.

But I'm happy to win, anyway! :acclaim:

  3. Super kudos to musicmeta for a lovely run of conservatively graded bronze Captain Americas (that I still feel I got for a way too low price, even with shipping charges from US to Greece) and for the best packaging job I've seen so far from a seller in these boards. (worship)

Not that I've ever had any major complaints in that department from any of the guys here, but Michael truly went above and beyond! :applause:

  4. I frequent a huge flea-market in Cedar Lake on Sunday's. Last Sunday I was talking to a dealer who had some Sci-Fi mags on his table. He asked me " Are you interested in comics". Yeah what do you have. He took me around to the back where there were some storage sheds. Opened up the shed and Whamo. :o It looked like Mason Jar boxes packed with books up to the ceiling. Lots of them. I told him " this is going to take some time to go through." No problem he said, take your time. Says he bought them from a strorage locker aution.

Now this property is run by a couple who have a house in the front. It just so happened the guy I was talking to was the owner. So its 90 degrees out as I start to look through box after box. I'm sweating ing bullets and he's watching me asking me all kinds of questions.

Each box had about fifty books. All unbagged. All with badly torn covers, pieces missing, chunks out. They were mostly 12 and 15 centers with a few 10 centers here and there. Just terrible shape. I got down to the bottom box on one row and found a few decent Astonish and Suspense that were salvagable. I started making a small pile and he continued to talk. O.K, I have been in there sweating for over and hour looking through box after box when his wife zoooms up in a golf cart. She runs the flea market every weekend and drives this cart around to make sure everythings in order.

She looks like Jabba the Hut with long red hair and red lipstick bouncing around in the golf cart. Anyway, she pulls up and starts chewing this guys azz out nine ways to Sunday. " You gonna stay back here all day". W-T-F is going on. Now I'm trying to stay out of it.

" He has to buy everything or nothing, no cherry picking". I told her the guy said they were his books. He then started stuttering saying " Well everything thats mine is hers to. I told him if you wanted to sell the whole shot why didnt you just say something instead of me wasting my ing morning looking through ripped up krap. She slammed the shed door shut and off she went. I'm lucky I made it out alive. :roflmao:

    DRX

Did you at least get to keep the Astonish/Suspenses?

Nothing, I was escorted off the property. :jokealert:

    DRX

You should've beaten the out of them and buried their bodies in the damn books. :sumo:

Or at the very least, you should've told them to off in a variety of colorful and memorable ways (thumbs u

  5. Kudos to lizards2 for a bunch of great looking DC War and Marvel Team Up books. Thanks Mike. :applause:

Kudos to Flying Donut as well for some really nice GI Combat books. Thanks Dan. :headbang:

Gah! :o I just remembered I also got a couple of G.I.Combats from Dan, a few days ago (along with two bronze Caps and a B&B). I was sure I'd given kudos, but apparently I had forgotten.

So, kudos to Flying Donut from me as well! (thumbs u

I knew I should have woken up a few hours earlier today!!! :frustrated:

I guess being an artist with weird hours has at least one advantage. :whee:

Normally I would've been up at least 4 hours earlier but it was my day off and I thought I'd catch some extra zzz's :P
