  1. I'm replying off of Chris only because I feel like he is the voice of reason in situations like these. :foryou:

I am trying my best to re-connect with fellow forumites nowadays and I was directed to this conversation by someone. I am the person that this charity auction was done for.

I’d like to state that there was a point in time when I was in another state (VA) with my family and life hit us HARD. Surprisingly, Lebowski (TJ) was thoughtful enough to start a thread for my family and me. My wife and I were so grateful when people starting willingly giving their books and donations…shoot, a couple of awesome forumites even sent us packages with baby clothes that were desperately needed. The boards can contain some bickering and backbiting at times, but when it comes to someone in need or in trouble, they are willing to put that aside and come together to help a fellow comic collector out, even if the person in need is unfamiliar or unknown. This type of camaraderie is priceless.

Indeed, Mike did forward me an amount. I have dealt with Mike before both in purchasing and selling of books and I have never had any problems with him. On top of that, I have received well needed advice on a personal issue that I still hold on to ‘til this day. I realize that I may not speak for everyone else, but Mike is top notch in my book. I am not aware of the history others fellow boardies may have had with him, but I do know that my business with him has been untainted and I would continue buying from him in the future.

And Beau, you also donated books that you did not have to, but because of your thoughtfulness and past experience, you paid it forward. In addition to the thoughtful PM exchanges we had, you offered support in my processing the idea of being a “charity case”. It was very hard to accept that at first because of my pride, but then I saw beyond that and was able to acknowledge the notion that people are willing to help others on these boards. I’ve met awesome comic enthusiasts on here with great hearts and great passion for their collections. I’ve no complaints against your person because I’ve no reason to.

I’m in CA now and in a better position with my family. With that in mind, I would not hesitate in helping others out that may come across harsh times or who have lost homes or property because of natural disasters. Paying it forward is the least that I can do. Maybe the PMs could have remained personal? One year later, it still seems like it’s a sore spot. Not sure. I’m not sure if or how I can help to fix this current issue between Mike and Beau, but if it helps any, I’d be willing to either repay you both for your troubles or offer up a donation to a future charitable cause on both your behalves. I never got to see the books in question or what the PM exchange consisted of, but I do know that both of you are very respectable collectors who were willing to go above and beyond to help a fellow boardie in need. With all that in mind, I give you both a (worship)

Post of the year! Easily! :applause:

  2. Picked this up over the weekend for $20. Still sealed. :)

It's still in transit, but the front looks like it says "comic book OFFER inside". I wonder if the book is actually in there, or if it's a mail away.... SURE hope it's the prior!

The books that were offered inside the box were UXM 303, UXM 307 and X-Men 11. The mail away form could have landed you any one of those or UXM 297. From what I understand, the 297 was only available via the mail in coupon. I'm still not sure if you were guaranteed one of the books in the box. Let us know how it turns out!

Arrived today... Had X-Men 307 inside in fantastic condition. No idea what it's really worth... The BiN on the only copy on ebay is $55. Apparently it's one of the harder to locate?

I thought it was a 9.8, but after scanning it, I noticed what looks like a printer crinkle along the top edge. Not sure if CGC would ding for that nor not. It's almost imperceptible in hand; almost like it was there prior to printing...

The pics are hotlinks to bigger scans if you're curious.

Like I said in the other thread... :applause::applause::applause:

  3.

303 & 307 from what I still understand were all "mail-aways". Until someone opens up a sealed box and finds 1 in there instead of the coupon that's all we'll know. No one has confirmed otherwise instead of some anecdotal evidence.

    Apologies for necro-ing this thread...

I picked up a sealed copy of the game for cheap, opened it up today, and this was inside. 307 is defenitely not mail-away only.

Not sure what it'll grade with the printers crease on top edge and wear at lower staple front. It's otherwise flawless.

  4. Somebody let the rest of us know how they look when they ship please!

My scan is fresh from the envelope.

    Looks pretty sharp! :applause:

Unfortunately, they don't ship to my neck of the woods :sorry:

That is unfortunate. What does it cost to ship to you?

I've never had a single comic/magazine shipped from the States to Greece, but I imagine that first class international would have to be somewhere around 6-7 bucks at most. (shrug)

  5. What if you already have all of them?

Well, you can never have too many copies of sweet copper books, anyway! :cloud9:

(From one hoarder to another :hi: )

    I'm not a hoarder...

    It's...uh...inventory....

    That's it! Inventory!

Why is it so hard to convince my friends that's the case? :insane:

  6. I think the OA this came from has much more of a lively, fun look to the face than the statue. It's just tough sometimes conveying the same expression from pad to sculpture.

I think it is the difference in the eyes. The art is wide-eyed and playful looking, where the statue looks sleepy.

The "art Bettie" is also slightly curvier :cloud9:

  7. 6) Rocketeer Adventure Magazine #3

There's been a bunch of these on E-bay lately. :gossip:

Yeah...I'm watching one of them now. I've also attempted to buy that Amazing Heroes #37 from milehighcomics twice but both times they said they were out of stock.

Makes you wonder why they even advertise it if they don't have it! :makepoint:

Lone Star has AH #37 for $2.60.

They also have Madman Comics #4 for $1.10 and Rocketeer Adventure Magazine #3 for $6.00.

    Thanks. (thumbs u

I've been watching the Rocketeer Adventure Magazine #3 on eBay. The AH #37 is just a VF but I might go ahead and buy it anyway just to have a copy until I can obtain a NM copy. Maybe I'll just get all three!

    Good choice. (thumbs u

Most AH issues are hard to find in true NM. I usually settle for whatever grade I can find and I still haven't managed to complete my set! :frustrated:

  9. A slow start to my aim to get stuck into WDC&S 1-100 in 2011, but at least it's a nice one.

This was on eBay - 'looks good for its age' and had a cropped photo. Sometimes it's worth taking a punt...:banana:

    wdcs_78.jpg

In this case, I think that "looks good for its age" must be considered for understatement of the year! And from an eBay seller, too! :o

Looks great for its age, would be infinitely more appropriate. Excellent grab, Andrew! :applause:

  10. Refund once you've got the book back as long as he gets it to you within a time frame that you are happy with.

I thought you didn't ship internationally?

He also doesn't discount his sales threads - EVER!

    :insane::baiting:

I realize now it's Canada - America's little cousin so I don't count that as being 'international' lol

    :o

    hm

I actually thought the same thing. When someone from the States says "international", I automatically exclude Canada. I figure they'd say "a boardie from Canada". (shrug)

But, in any case, two months is way too long for anyone to return a book. :sumo:
