  1. I was one of the people that you emailed about this deal, comicnut, if I recall correctly. I had done two or three different deals with Wilhelm a few years back, trading GA books for GA books. The deals we did ended up fine, but everything was set before books were exchanged as to what exactly was being traded for what. If I recall correctly (and that's not a given certainly), the deal you're describing wasn't completely set but was conditioned upon a grading evaluation or something like that. Something like if it was x grade these books were in play, but if it was y grade, then it would be different. It wasn't my affair, so I didn't pay much attention. Anyway, that did give me some pause when you emailed me asking about Wilhelm, the part about sending comics without having a specific set deal in mind beforehand. One thing I noticed about Wilhelm is that he overgrades by at least a point, so that must be taken into account if you're dealing with him. He does seem to have a fantastic GA collection, however. Sorry to hear your deal didn't work out, and that you weren't treated fairly.
  2. I don't recall, really. I know it was after I had found the main website and had some books CGCed, since that was in late 2001, and I lurked for awhile before I started posting.
  3. Dang, beaten to the punch by someone named 'timulty'...
  4. Cool find. Crazing is the correct term, I believe, it refers to the 'cracks' in the composition. I've seen it used in describing old pottery and stuff.
  5. Thanks, but all that entry says is that he took his own life, it doesn't really provide any background information at all, just some brief work history. Does anyone else have some more information on his personal life?
  6. I was reading that Jack Cole committed suicide in the 1960's. Does someone have some biographical information on him?
  7. Does this 'Gary' you have long sought possess a Supergear? No? Then we shall lock the knave in the Tower!
  8. You know, I am depending on Rick's sense of humor.....I don't need him pounding on me........ Just hide out at the Big Apple con, Tom Murnane will protect you. You can hold the bag of cash!
  9. YOu want to explain for us ? I find the Detective run particularly interesting. i'm still not sure those querying this note understand what we're talking about. you have to go back to Red's first redo and take a gander at those beautiful 'Tecs........................... My monitor here at work , I was told where and what was done but I still cant see it I completely missed it! Red's in stealth mode...
  10. I think I like looking at the Action 2 more than the 1, simply because I've seen pics of the 1 ad naseum and that painted cover on the 2 is a real beauty.
  11. Firstly that's not a Superman 14, and secondly, if I tell you everything, then no-one has a chance to guess what they are. There are no coverless comics there unless they were issued that way ( a clue ??) Ah, I just guessed from the Overstreet listing description. I seem to recall your posting the Comics Code issue that didn't appear to have a cover. Lots of fun in any event. It reminds me of scanning old newsstand pics to see what was on the shelves...
  12. What is the issue that looks coverless to the right of the Superman 14 shield cover, and the one immediately above that one, to the right of the Defend Your Home issue?
  13. What are the four issues top left shelf? It looks like they say Game Time, but there's no listing for that title in my Overstreet...
  14. Whatever that modern Batman issue is (608 retailer incentive?), it has no business being in such close proximity to the Action 1!
  15. So who's gonna try to identify them ? Gimme a hint, are they all from the same company?
  16. Glad you liked them! Kudos back for quick payment and easy communication.
  17. You're welcome, and if I had those other issues, I would've sent them along as well.
  18. Man this is one looooong intermission. I need another coke to wash this stuff down...
  19. Once again, I must give kudos to all who post on this thread. It's one of the best here on the boards! Thanks to ComicBookGuy, I now have a box full of DTM paperbacks, and just today I went to a church flea market sale and bought about 20 DTM issues from the Seventies, including a bunch of vacation specials that I recall reading in digests when I was a kid! Now, my kids are lining them up for bedtime reading already!
  20. Kudos to ComicBookGuy (Joe) for some awesome Dennis the Menace paperback books - a whole box of 'em!
  21. Wow, Lucky you! That was an experience few of us will have the pleasure of having in our lifetimes. Thanks for sharing! And isn't it great that Jon isn't some arrogant tool who doesn't share his goodies? If he were a different kind of man, we might not even know these rare books even existed... Thanks again, Jon.
  22. Kudos to Shrukenhead for taking some unwanted moderns off of my hands for a real cheap price, AND for showing some patience with the PO sloooooow delivery!
  23. Man guys, this thread is impressive stuff for Dennis fans of all stripes. One of my favorite threads lately. I'm not collecting them right now, but I remember reading the digests over and over and over when I was a kid. Keep it up!
