  1. Thanks. Yeah, those darned giant sized books. This one looks sooooo nice at first glance. You don't notice that corner until you handle the book. I believe 100% it's publishing/binding related. I might search for any similar cases.
  2. I started at 4.5 for the first 3, then thought I must be in a rut and started scrutinizing all books ( = overthinking)
  3. Now if I ever come across a box of GA comics at a garage sale, I will confidently tell the seller who has priced them as if they are 8.0 or better, "Sorry, pal, but these are ALL 5.0!" Of course... the way I grade GA comics, that means I'm looking at a bunch of 7.5 beauties!!
  4. This feels like an added dimension to the game: "Real world CGC office working conditions!" Burnt out bulbs overhead, one desk lamp with a 40W bulb on a nearby table. Left my reading glasses at home. Can only focus by viewing comics at arm's length... somewhat compromising visual acuity. I mean, I'm flarked as far as finishing in the top 70% goes, so don't listen to me, but... if you can't see it in the scans... yeah.
  5. Better performance, about the same standing. Man... If I could throw out ONE book per round... Also, if I had just picked the winning numbers when I bought that lottery ticket~!
  6. I can see that in the final few pics, but the rest it does look like it could be in the plastic. Pics aren't terribly sharp.
  7. 6.0 ish. Spine stress, dents on cover, soiling (?) BC, color loss at title (to the right).
  8. Here we go! Anyone else have the feeling this round is like a big fat trick question?
  9. And I thought it was just magic marker doodles -- so I "earned" some points (multiple) for how far off I was.
  10. 2.0 is (supposedly) the highest a book can get with a completely detached cover, according to Overstreet Guide. But CGC seems to be more generous than Overstreet, esp on key issues and in terms of not setting a ceiling on a grade based on one particular flaw. Maybe people have examples of CGC slabbed books with detached cover that were graded higher than 2.0? Ones in overall similar condition to this book? Another thread tackles this line of reasoning and includes a quote from a CGC grader that 4.0 would be the max for a detached cover.
  11. I'm torn between an optimistic 3.0 and a more grounded 2.0, so split the diff and call it 2.5? Virtues that might lift it above 2.0 is there are no chunks missing and not many long creases.
  12. Based on the severity of the spine roll, I'd agree with evilskip
  13. That feeling when you finish a test you thought you were ready for, but now you're second-guessing all your answers...
