  1. I posted this in comics general, but since this is the turtles thread I thought you guys would appreciate it. This is part of my report from HeroesCon and my experience meeting Kevin Eastman. Saturday morning I got to the show floor right at 10. I texted Sam (TAFKADixie) to find out that he was already in line for Eastman and that the line was already pretty long. I hunkered down at the end of the line. The line was running at a 90 degree angle from Eastman's table, which was right in the middle of the con floor: Eastman did not get to his table until sometime around 11. We were then informed that everyone was limited to two items being signed. I had 4 things to get signed, so my wife stayed in line with me. I thought the folks in line were great. We all talked about TMNT stuff and the con in general. It also gave my wife time to take cosplay pictures. We all took turns saving spots and going out on the show floor. We had fun with folks coming by asking who we were in line for. I'm pretty sure someone walked away thinking Hugh Jackman was actually at Heroes this year because of it. Dealers were coming up to us in line trying to sell TMNT books. The kid in front of me got out of line with his dad for awhile and went and bought a really nice looking 1st print of TMNT 3 that he ended up getting witnessed by CGC. The volunteers at Heroes were also great. They kept coming by and keeping us updated. One guy kept trying to get us to do the wave. I think it worked once. There were TONS of people with TMNT shirts on, so you could tell who the big draw in the room was. It only took FOUR HOURS to finally get to Eastman. He was very nice and apologetic for the wait. We heard that the line was going to be cut off at 3pm and there was still a long line waiting for him at 2:30. I had been told that Eastman would sign anything and I wanted to put that to the test. I asked the volunteer at the front of the line what the coolest thing he had seen signed by Eastman that day was and he told me a 1st print of TMNT 1. I told him I had something even cooler. He agreed once I showed it to him. Eastman got a good laugh out of it and told me he had actually signed copies of it before: Yep. That's an OOP VHS copy of the Ninja Rap music video by Vanilla Ice. Surprisingly, Eastman said he never got to meet Vanilla Ice but he knew he was a huge TMNT fan. I also got two prints signed by Eastman for my oldest son and his best friend. I bought the prints off the show floor from an artist that had advertised on Twitter. I didn't realize until after meeting him and buying the prints that he was actually Billy Martin, the guitarist for the band Good Charlotte . He was very laid back and unassuming, and I thought his prints looked great and fit the style I thought two 6 yr old boys would love: It was a great experience. I would've gladly paid more just to avoid the line though. Eastman was selling prints, comics, and hardcovers at his table and buying one put you to the front, but if you had anything you brought and wanted signed you still had to wait in line. I thought his print costs were fair considering - most folks were paying 2/$100 for two signed prints.
  2. The turtle books were definitely on display at Heroes this past weekend. Eastman had everything to do with that though.
  3. This was going to be my next question.
  4. Gator do you think Generation X collectors will continue to drive the GA market once the baby boomers have passed on? Or do you think the GA market will languish in the future?
  5. The wife and I just started watching season 1 on netflix and we are enjoying it. I gotta admit that I thought it was going to be Dawson's Creek or One Tree Hill with capes and it has been far from it. I am curious though, is the relationship between Tommy and Laurel going to play into the plot at all? I'm 10 episodes in and it just feels like their relationship is filler. I use their conversations as an opportunity for a bathroom break most of the time.
  6. I agree, but I view the corruption being more analagous to the "good ol' boy" system that is still prevalent everywhere down here even now.
  7. I think its a good read for anyone who grew up or has ever lived in the rural south. I haven't read issue 2 yet (will this weekend) but issue 1 reminded me a lot of the people and places I grew up around in rural southeastern NC. The "Devil in the TV" comment is something I've heard on more than one occasion. When i was in elementary school I remember having friends in my class that went to a very conservative church. When we would watch a video or anything on the television in class, they would have to sit behind the TV because they weren't allowed to watch TV based on religious beliefs. They weren't Amish or Mennonite, I think they were from a Holiness church. They were allowed to hear the TV, they just couldn't watch it.
  8. Rare? That book has to be one of the most common of the "rare" Whitman issues. Either there was a huge find of this book in recent years or nobody hangs onto them because there are always copies for sale on eBay. I know that this is for eBay listings, but still that auction ended ALOT higher than I expected for those Gold Key/Whitman books. I was just looking for clarification as to why it ended so high. Wasn't sure what I was missing. My assumption was a super rare Whitman, but then again I thought most of those were the cartoon animal ones.
  9. Not in the least. It's a legitimate auction site though.
  10. So...is this just a shilled auction or am I missing something? http://www.mycomicshop.com/search?ItemID=25650209
  11. Was this it? http://www.amazon.com/TEENAGE-MUTANT-TURTLES-Sealed-RICHARD/dp/B007AKBSVI That's it! Thank you!
  12. Wait, there's a campaign in COD4?!? The Infinity Ward CODs actually have good campaigns, particularly with MW2. MW2 was the best of the modern warfares as far as campaigns go. I did like some elements of the BO2 campaign, especially with how the decisions factored into the ending. It was pretty bland otherwise though. I'm still waiting for Activision to give us a pure COD zombie game. Even with all the powerups and upgrades, zombie mode gets pretty old after awhile.
  13. I want it now. I'll be picking up a "few" at Heroescon depending on their availability. (thumbs u
  14. Has this been mentioned here yet? Heroescon variant to Southern Bastards: http://kickstandkids.tumblr.com/post/86325644897/southernbastards-sure-looks-like-the-heroes
  15. So i come to the Turtle fans looking for a little help finding something from my childhood: I had a poster in my room as a kid that was based off the cover for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 25 - the cover with all 4 turtles all with the same color masks. I can't remember where I got the poster from or where to find one like it now. Does anyone have any info on it?
  16. I blame the recession for the drop off in 2009, 2010.
  17. I think you're vastly underestimating the number of cosplayers, especially women and the characters they portray. With that said though I do agree that I don't think they have a heavy impact on the backissue prices.
  18. I'm kicking myself for not buying 3rd prints several years ago when they were much more affordable.
  19. He wasn't bad at first. His 1st Marvel work; See, I really like this. Beast looks great (I also don't see anything wrong with his hands or feet), especially when you compare him to this... This is one of the absolute worse depictions of the X-Men, and It just gets on my nerves. I'll gladly take Liefeld's X-Men over Quitley's X-Men any day. Not defending Quietly's work at all, but to be fair Beast has been going through a constant mutation and that was part of the New X Men story arc.
  20. I remember buying Youngblood #1 back then. To my credit, I didn't buy #2 or any subsequent issue. Peace, Chip By the time it was released, you probably had forgotten about Youngblood 1.
  21. I've posted this elsewhere, but it bears repeating in this thread: Liefeld Kickstarted a Brigade relaunch last year - and it still hasn't shipped. He's on his FIFTH colorist for the Brigade book He expects it to be done by JUNE OR JULY - it was funded almost 11 months ago He admits to producing ZERO comic work in 2013 This only makes his art worse in my opinion. Get something done on time and you won't be as much of a lightning rod for the fanboys. Has anyone in the industry stood up for Liefeld? Taking pot shots at Scott Snyder via twitter did not help his standing in the industry I'd imagine.
  22. I Mock Liefeld for largely the same reasons, but I also add in the fact that the man cannot make a deadline to save his life. He's had a year to get a Kickstarted book out for free and hasn't done it yet. He even admits that he did no work in 2013. People can knock Kirby all they want for his quality, especially in the later years, but you cannot knock his work ethic.
  23. What are these going for now? I had 10 or so copies of the 2nd print included in an auction lot win a year or so ago (NM New Mutants short box with complete run + extras for $140). No idea but I figured for a couple bucks it was worth picking up If ASM 361 2nd print can go for $20+, no reason this 2nd print can't go for that or more.
