The Unofficial Underground Comix thread...
swebbvella replied to 50 Cent #II (1st)'s topic in Comic Magazines
The comic appeared in Zap #1. It was also reprinted in Head Comix. Perhaps this is a pre-production proof of some sort? -

Just adding a bit to this......I don't own the pictured copy, but I do own two other copies, one without the yellow. They both have the blip. The Donahue note is of interest.... -

Those are some beautiful books there. Absolutely search sold examples on eBay before you put a price on yours, and pay special attention to condition and printing number, the latter being the best reason to have the price guides. The guides are an excellent source of reference material, but the prices shown should only be used to compare relative differences in values between books and for identifying editions (printings). It all comes down to what someone is willing to pay which can be inferred by scouring sale prices of sold items. Good luck! -

This animation was better than I expected. Knowing the actors behind the voices also gave me a chuckle. Hopefully this will help give undergrounds the exposure they deserve. Here are a couple of mine... -

I also only collect undergrounds. Started out casting a wide net but quickly focused in on Crumb, Shelton, and Air Pirates. Have most of the important stuff (to me). I still have a lot of duplicates and other underground odds and ends I'm slowly selling off, but since I'm retired now I'm able to pass it off as a hobby to use my free time and help me stay out of trouble. Never was interested in the DC/Marvel type stuff - I've got free time, but not THAT much. -

Tales From The Tube inserted into Surfer Magazine Vol 12 #6. I found three in a shop in California that sold old surfer magazines. Pristine shape with the inserts intact. Kennedy #1956 -

I used to work in precision sheet metal, and it was generally understood Mitutoyo was the brand to buy. Might be overkill for this purpose though. I use my digital Mitutoyo calipers to measure mine. -

My go-to references are Fogel's Underground Price & Grading Guide and ugcomix.info (hit the reprint guide link) plus The Official Underground And Newave Comix Price Guide by Jay Kennedy. -

Pulled out some old magazines for eBay and upon looking through an April 1972 copy of Racin' toons found a cartoon by Hunnicutt with Wonder Wart-Hog. He is documented as drawing Wonder Wart-Hog stuff (Gilbert Shelton's character) but could not find a reference to this particular instance. Knowing there are Wart-Hog fanatics out there, thought I would share. I'd attach an image, but apparently we can't do that here without linking to a web site. Hopefully the new software will allow that? Or am I missing something? -

Someone on eBay is selling a mint opened set for WAY less.....just sayin'. And no, I don't own a set either because of the price. Too much of Crumb's stuff is repackaged old comix published to keep the money flowing. I'll look through my collection of originals instead thankyouverymuch. With gloves. Under special lighting. Behind a sneeze guard. -

Thanks everyone. I was aware of the comixjoint forums, and am upset at the lack of info on the comixpriceguide forum status. A lot of good information there, I hope it's not lost as it is a good source for people new to the genre. Glad I found this one. -

Hi all, recognize some people here from comicspriceguide, and since it crashed I have been looking for another forum for underground collectors. Is this it, or are there other places to visit? Please excuse me if this is improper etiquette here, I apologize.
