I don't think this is the seller's fault. It's the inconsistency of CGC's grading when it comes to purple books. You have to resubmit a bunch, as I have, to see how much it varies, and then CGC's answer is always, "The most recent grade is the correct grade."

I'm not sure you'll get there with the cover piece missing and the missing piece on the upper spine. My guess is 3.5 with some of that surface dirt cleaned off. Either way, it's a GREAT book!

Is it like the early days of pressing? Everyone doing it and no one wanted to admit it?

I wish I had a clear answer. I subbed a book with a leaf casted corner (I'm talking 1/4") and it came back with no trimming. The only trimming was to remove the excess paper and align the new corner with the existing dimensions. Then I resubbed it and it came back with "Right and Bottom Edge Trimmed." The one that confounds me the most is that Batman 1. The entire top edge had been trimmed and then restored with leaf casting...and it came back untrimmed. I haven't heard any dealers or big collectors weigh in on this, which is surprising. Or not.

I did. Apparently it took more than 4 months for my books to arrive at CCS. Ah, good times.

I don't mind it. I guess I had to get my brain around it because it's going to become more common on mega books like that Batman 1. What I have a problem with is the inconsistency in how it's graded from book to book. Either call it trimming or don't call it trimming, but CGC should have a standard for all books. (I say this knowing that current standards have never applied to GA books...)

I don't necessarily think this is all CGC's fault. Restorationists have developed new techniques that are virtually beyond detection. Or at least to where it's causing some serious grading headaches. And I understand the hesitancy of certain restorationists to divulge their trade secrets to CGC, which also has CCS under it's roof. It's a tangled skein at the moment.

@Phill the Governor -- I've been saying this all year. CGC's resto check and notation needs to be readdressed. Is a small bit of mending paper added to the spine: A) Cover reinforced B) Pieces added C) All of the above CGC sometimes goes with A, sometimes B, sometimes both. And it can vary when resubmitting the same book. If a corner piece is replaced with leaf casting is the book: A) Trimmed on two edges B) Trimmed on one edge C) No trimming at all CGC sometimes notates the removal of the excess paper as trimmed. Sometimes they don't. And again, it changed when resubbing the same book. This has happened twice on two $10,000+ books and the answer I was given was "The first grade was wrong, this new grade is right." Hero Restoration (which does fine work) also resubbed a Batman 1 and the trimming magically disappeared.

Walk Through, which used to be listed as a 3-day turnaround is now showing 12-days. This explains my 3 week turnaround times as of late.

It was only a matter of time before Stan's signature became sentient.

@Bo1983 I feel ya. I have a 3.5 that looks equally under graded. Though your 3.0 looks way better than my 3.5.

Was hoping the comic gods might bless me with a 7.0, but just happy the comic demons didn't curse me with a purple label.

I guessed 6.5 and it came back a 6.5.

It's shipped now, but that last book I sent Walk Through took three and a half weeks.

Since he was also Marvel's Art Director, he definitely has great design sense and a perfect eye for well placed sigs.

Anyone else having fun with Walk Through? My previous WT submission that wasn't opened for three weeks was finally graded and shipped. It's been two weeks now and my final WT sub hasn't been opened. (Yes, I marked the box on all sides).
