  1. Two recent pick-ups. Wishing I could add the 8.0 to the 3.0 and get an 11.0.
  2. TOS 39 8.0 just sold for $75k on ComicConnect. Last year the high sale for an 8.0 was half that. I was wondering when the manic prices would finally hit this book (and Hulk 1).
  3. The census numbers are definitely distorted, but how many resubs is anyone's guess. 10%? More for AF15 and X1 because of the popularity of those books? AF15 - 3,400 Avengers 1 - 4,500 FF 1 - 2,500 Hulk 1 - 1,800 JIM 83 - 2,000 TOS 39 - 2,400 X-Men 1 - 5,300 The interesting thing is how scarce Hulk 1 is compared to the rest.
  4. Amazing what a good press and clean can do. Thanks @joeypost for upgrading my 9.0
  5. Ad agency. There was stuff that went back to the early 70s. I don't recall what the official policy was, but I think those paper records were eventually tossed, especially if it was a client that no longer existed, like a bank that had been bought out by a larger bank.
  6. I was a creative director for almost 20 years and hired lots of illustrators and photographers and this was the case. We were always paying for usage, not the originals. But in storerooms, we had originals from decades prior. I'm talking commercial illustrations, magazine illustrations, etc. The production managers from back then were long gone and no one knew who those artists were, what their contact information was, or even if they were alive. These were stored in large flat files organized by client and some of the clients (corporations) didn't exist anymore. The contracts (if there were any) were probably in a file box buried in some storage unit offsite, or were thrown away. The artwork was of little commercial value, but I always wished we had been able to return that work to the artist or the families of the artist.
  7. Page 6 - Daredevil 48 - 6.0 - $35.00 now 15% off = $29.00 $25.00 Daredevil 49 - 5.0 - $15.00 now 15% off = $12.00 $10.00
  8. This. They could also offer a 2-Day Modern, like CBCS.
  9. I don't know why people are freaking out. These Blackstone Group guys seem pretty nice and well equipped to take on those pesky Newton rings.
  10. https://www.oregonlive.com/news/oregonian/steve_duin/2009/09/lifting_the_veil_at_heritage_a.html The N.P. Gresham thing was bad for Heritage, but I live near the plaintiff, Gary Hendershott, and he has a terrible rep in the business community. There was no good guy in that lawsuit.
  11. This on a larger scale is what's plagued the fine art world for decades. A group of buyers/dealers will collect 20-30 pieces worth $10k each. Then they'll auction one or two and shill them to $50k, buying the piece themselves and eating the commission and buyers premium. BOOM -- suddenly this mid-level artist is hot and this group sells off their other pieces. Not saying this is the explanation for the manic increase in comic values, but with people treating GPA and GoCollect as gospel, you can see how it might happen.
  12. This is one of the many reasons I'm taking a break from sending anything in to CGC (so hey, turnaround times will speed up by .0000002%). I have about 70 books in now, but I can't send anything else in. Not until this storm passes. It may take a year or more, if ever, we'll see. I'll still be buying, still be selling on occasion, but not subbing until things are less chaotic. Sending a high value book to a presser, who is also slammed, and then to CGC which is buried under an avalanche of books, is too much right now. The last book I sent was an Avengers 1, walkthru. It's been a few weeks and I have no idea where it is. Have fun, kids.
  13. Yeah, it's been ugly. Sent one book in for pressing and WK and it came back in a week () but wasn't pressed (). It's back in the system. This other WK book feels lost. I'm sure it's not, but it's not encouraging me to send in anymore high value books for a while. But hey, good for everyone else, I guess.
  14. Anyone know what's up with Walkthrough? I thought they opened these right away or at least within a day or two (yes, I marked the box on all sides). I've had one there unopened for two weeks now.
