  1. I love this cover, but it's detached and 60% of the back is missing. Cover is not split. If I recall, GA books with a detached cover can still grade as high as 3.0 (or they have in the past). I'll probably have it pressed, cleaned and slabbed because it presents so well regardless of the lowly number on the label or the dreaded NG.
  2. Not staining, per se. Offset ink smudging. I didn't think books were downgraded for printing errors, at least not until a book is closer to 9.8?
  3. Same thing happened to me. Like with peeking into the kitchen of a restaurant, I think we'd be shocked if we knew what was happening to our books these days, post-grading.
  4. Thanks for the feedback. It was a 9.0, white pages, with a few pressable dings holding it back. Sent it in to be pressed and regraded. Came back 8.5, unpressed. Maybe got dinged for the printers ink on the back?
  5. I need a 2nd opinion on this one. Thanks y'all.
  6. ashsm_8770 -- Non payment. No response to messages. trendinvestors -- Non payment. No response to messages. As mentioned in another thread, apparently this person "buys" competing auctions. In my case, it was an $11k book.
  7. Argh... Trendinvestors just did the EXACT same thing to me on a Hulk 181 on eBay. He bought it and hasn't paid or responded to msgs in a week. Reported him for non payment. Sent him a few emails. Nada.
  8. I've read the other books about Stan and they barely touch (or skip over) the fiascos with Stan Lee Media and POW! Entertainment. I agree with you, this book goes there. It goes everywhere. The complete disconnect between Stan and his brother, Larry, was especially tragic.
  9. I focus on Silver Age into Bronze, so variants aren't really a part of my game, though I do buy moderns for reading pleasure and less for collecting. The only time I chase characters across books are with the Legion, because that's just how they started out. From Adventure Comics, to Action Comics, to Superboy, Superman, later appearances in Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane.
  10. Something is going on post-grading that we all should be concerned about. I just sent back two slabs for regrading where the inner plastic is speckled with....something. Looks greasy or grimy and no one in encapsulation noticed or cared. I have so many books in the hopper right now, including a high grade ASM 129, and it feels like I'm sending them to CGC for grading and PGX for encapsulation. It feels like with the massive volume and growth of CGC as a company, we're the one's paying the price for their growing pains. (Like with the bonus plastic in my FF1).
  11. Bought a SW1 9.6. Great price. Great packaging. Great seller! Thanks!
  12. Thanks for the feedback, the great books, and great sales
  13. I'm surprised this thread is still going. If it was posted in the Water Cooler it'd probably be locked by now.
  14. Some people forget that certain mis-truths can be taken literally by others. I sat on a plane one time next to a women watching Gone With the Wind. It was her favorite film and she treated it almost like a documentary in that she swore there were slaves who happily fought for the South, because they had such great lives. Ironically, I was flying to Atlanta to give a talk at the Margaret Mitchell House.
  15. I've been watching this thread from the sidelines for a while. I'm 1/2 Chinese and my take is this: The people who are crying "WHERE WILL THIS CENSORSHIP END?" are overreacting just as much as the people who seem to want to ban everything. Are they going to ban Mein Kampf? No, of course not, because it's not read to freakin' six-year olds (unless you're in a really weird household ). Are they going to ban the sale of Golden Age depictions of racial stereotypes? I sure hope not. But again no one is reading Marvel Mystery Comics #30 to their kids at bedtime. I have that particular issue and love the history of it. I also own a bunch of Asian stereotype comics, like Charlie Chan, because to me they're interesting history. I'm fine with certain Dr. Seuss books being retired just like certain Disney movies with racist tropes being retired -- because they're aimed at children. My
  16. Such a difficult reality to navigate. One of my books was optioned for film. The main characters are Chinese American and Japanese American. The deal involved Chinese investors and fell apart in 2014 when the two countries were squabbling (again) over the disputed Senkaku islands. I was told anything with Japanese characters were DOA at that point. That same book was translated into Complex Chinese (Hong Kong) and Simplified Chinese (Mainland). The complex edition sold well. The simplified edition was held up by government censors for 18 months.
  17. Paypal, Venmo, check/MO for payment7-day returns accepted Nice Fantastic Four #25 / VG+ / $250 shipped
  18. If it bled through to the inside front cover then there's probably no way to remove it. Even if you did it would have to be with something that didn't leave behind a chemical smell. I don't mind sigs on boring covers, but man... I'm not a fan of sigs on gorgeous covers like that.
  19. I think the only thing left to happen is for Elon Musk to start tweeting about obscure comics.
  20. I kind of like them. But... As someone who graduated from art school, we'd get requests (or contests) like this all the time. Yes, it's a cool opportunity for a student, but it's generally only done by companies too cheap to pay for actual work. CGC can afford to hire some incredible illustrators who would have done better labels. \ They paid the students $500, $250, and $100. (But hey, one of these artists could turn out to be the next Will Eisner, so who knows?)
  21. Same. I just sent in a high-grade copy of Brother Power the Geek. I like the look and feel of the slabs. I had a built-in bookcase put in my den that's sized specifically for slabbed books. Then I have 5 of those Nicholas Cage frames for displaying some of my favorite keys. It's all nice and neat. As opposed to my office where I still have 12 long boxes and a mess of loose raw books. Another reason I like the slabbed books is they're easier for my wife to sell if I get hit by a bus tomorrow. She knows to call a collector friend who will help her get them to Vin and Comic Connect.
