  1. I have an open case on eBay for non-payment. No reply for two weeks. Today he just bought TWO MORE of my books, which I expect to not be paid for. What is wrong with this creep?
  2. I love them both, but gotta go with Byrne.
  3. They should just chop the books into equal size pieces and give everyone a section. Totally fair.
  4. 2.5 Definitely not a 1.8. I have a 1.8 with a three inch piece of the cover missing. This book looks amazing by comparison.
  5. Same book. Sorry that happened to you. Knowingly breaking out a purple book and then selling it as raw is indefensible. Can you get your money back?
  6. He's not going to pay. Why eBay hasn't shut this guy down is anyone's guess.
  7. For me it was my grandma. She'd always go to garage sales and buy stacks of comics, box them up and send them to me. In grade school the UPS man would arrive 3-4 times a summer bearing hundreds of comics.
  8. I suspected that. The first message was about buying the comic, I can't remember his name but he said something about having to check with his wife. A few weeks later the offer came from "Rebecca."
  9. I was just offered $4500 by this seller for a pedigree book (8.0) I've had on eBay for a while. It's a bit higher than GPA, but if they cracked it out and resold it as a 9.2 they'd make a handsome profit I turned them down, but also explained that it appears they're cracking and reselling at inflated grades which I don't want to be a part of. Also worried about the book losing its provenance if they toss the label in the trash. I sent them a screen capture of this thread and said there's a healthy debate going on about the ethics of what they're doing. The buyer is Rebecca McCoy, and her husband has also contacted me, but I don't know his name. I'll let you know if they reply.
  10. That's what is posted. I'm asking what's the reality? I've had a book there in WALKTHRU for a week. It still only shows that it's been received.
  11. Anyone know what the average turnaround time for WALKTHRU is these days?
  12. Thanks. I was thinking the same. I appreciate having a second opinion.
  13. Read this in one night. If you liked Bird Box, either the novel or the film, you'll love this. Josh and I have the same agent, so I got my hands on an advance readers copy (ARC).
  14. Another weird factor that sometimes motivates buyers are registry sets. I had a Miller set. A few 9.9s and the rest 9.8s. I was #2 and could only overtake the #1 spot with SS books, which have a slightly higher point value. It wasn't that big of a deal, but sometimes in collecting there's an objective, so I had a few signed by Klaus Janson and that was enough to take the top spot. But only for a brief moment. For me it was just a fun thing to do and worth the $$. I recently put those signed books up for sale and with the Frank Miller signing coming up, they've been selling quite well, often well beyond current GPA.
  15. Maybe it's not universally flawed, but definitely on some recent searches. DD #163 - FMV $900 That was for a SS book in 2017. More recent sales have been around $500. Why is that $900 SS listed as FMV?
  16. What bothers me about GoCollect is that they take the highest historical purchase price and assign that as Fair Market Value. So a high price paid for a much-hyped book during the dot-com boom is suddenly the going rate? When hundreds purchases since then have been much less? Not a good representation of FMV.
  17. There's a great book called How to Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan. It's about psychedelics. In it he talks about how the older we get the more our perception is altered internally. We only see a fraction of what's actually there and our mind fills in the blanks from past data. So less about the 10% brain thing and more about a brain that's working less on observation and more on assumption. So sometimes an eager buyer wants to get a great deal on a 9.4, so they click on that scan expecting a 9.4, and are less inclined to focus on the book's flaws.
  18. I have some Bitcoin and Ethereum. Was talked into it by a friend who is all-in on cryptocurrencies. She owns 6-7 different kinds and bought Bitcoin when it was $400 a coin (It's $7100 now). I bought out of curiosity, considering it more gambling than investment. It's an interesting world. It feels good to make purchases with bitcoin because of the anonymity--your data isn't being harvested, sold, and then boomeranged back at you in the form of target advertising. Just be sure to use an offline ledger or wallet, don't keep your bitcoin on an exchange.
  19. One purchase isn't a trend, but I made an offer on a silver age mega key last summer and was turned down. Made the same offer again this week and got it. My offer was 3/4 of the asking price.
  20. I remember Harlan Ellison talking about how he'd been approached by producers to write a remake of Forbidden Planet. He told them it was a perfect movie and that they should (perform hideous obscenities upon themselves). Then then contacted Ray Bradbury. Not sure what happened after that.
  21. A friend works for the Community Development Association in Seattle, a group that looks after the International District. They've been getting donations from suppliers and putting together bags of groceries and vitamins for the elderly in the neighborhood and families in low-income housing. They put together a regular group of volunteers, including the police officers assigning to that area. They sort the donations, wipe them down, load up, and go door to door delivering an average of 180 bags of groceries each week. They've been doing this for four weeks now. (They're gloved up, masked up, maintain distance, etc).
