  1. Still at received 8/7 Still at received 9/7 Because I am a glutton for punishment, I have three new subs to watch: 4 book value sub received 8/30 6 book economy sub received 8/30 3 book modern sub received 8/30
  2. Flight booked with miles. I'll have to miss Friday this year, but will be there all Sat-Sun. See you in seven months!
  3. Yep, you're right, it is $1500. Still, I'd be more willing to pay that in a long-established show with proven traffic like Chicago. Over half that number for a first year show in a very minor market is stupid.
  4. $1,200 is not as bad as it looks for Chicago, which is a 4 day show with a lot of traffic and comic buyers, but it is still higher than it ought to be. $800 for a first year show in Peoria with very little lead time is ludicrous.
  5. It is certainly possible that they changed that policy as their financial woes deepened. I remember several years ago at WW Austin they had two of the most nonsensical booths I had ever seen. One guy had giant Rubbermaid tubs of individual loose Lego bricks that he was selling, and another booth was full of incense at 25 cents a stick. You know that those booths either got a super steep discount, or had the worst business sense of anyone I have ever seen (maybe both).
  6. I've long been of the opinion that if Wizard charged $500 for a 10 x 10 booth they would have no trouble filling their shows with vendors and may make more money in the long run. Certainly a ton of empty booths at Chicago would have been filled at those prices. It is also a poorly kept secret that Wizard will fire sale booths as a show approaches, and they'd have less need for that if they charged reasonable prices.
  7. This has been Fan Expo's MO. Comic guests are the afterthought after they announce celebs. Any show should have a guest list at 6 weeks out if they expect people to make plans/save up to attend.
  8. Looks like you're only 10-15 miles away. Hope to see you there!
  9. And he just sold a bunch of his doubles, ha. Sure did. I am always keeping an eye out for DCU variants and upgrading when I can. Most aren't worth all that much. The WW #90 is hot because of Artemis, and it is one of the few real keys that has a DCU variant (plus none of the WW books are super common to begin with). Cartoon books like Pinky and the Brain are also uncommon, though you can buy sealed two packs fairly cheaply (or at least they used to be). Most DCUs will sell between $2-5 apiece or so, which isn't bad for books you'll find in most dollar boxes. The better ones can command more, especially if you find the right customer.
  10. Perfect, that's what I needed. I remember this plan back when I was buying books off the shelves during this period. Thank you!!
  11. I found a small group of Wolverine #88s at a recent show. I got one book that is clearly a 1st print direct, one newsstand, and a book that appears to have a second print barcode but is not mentioned as a second print in the indicia (book to the far left). I figured I would bring this conundrum to the experts here to see if anyone knew what this was. Edit: I noticed the pricing is different between the two direct editions is this a clue to the mystery? Why is the US price 45 cents cheaper with added price info on the left?
  12. They said the dates weren't accurate, but this'll give you an idea. Can't see them going much cheaper than these shows.
  13. All these tacked-on 2017 shows in small markets smack of desperation and look really shaky.
  14. Somebody will be taking subs for Stan at least. Maybe Anastasia's Collectibles?
  15. Ruth Connell (Supernatural) and Michael Cudlitz (Walking Dead) added.
  16. That's the first Superman #100 DCU I've ever seen. That was a great find.
  17. Facebook page Original thread with 2015-2016 info May as well start a new multi-year OAFCON thread, so recycling this thread for 2018. I hope I can actually go in 2018!
