  1. Just finished the first issue. BKV's dialogue is a bit too cute at times - the 2 protagonists sound too much like Yorick and 355.

It also feels very surreal. I'm not sure if the stuff going on in the book is actually what happened or if we have an unreliable narrator recounting exaggerated tales her parents told her about her early years (since she's a baby and all). It's definitely a bit out there.

That said, it was still pretty fun and I'll keep reading.

  2. A 9.8 SS of Walking Dead #19 just sold for $999.

    That's crazy, right?

I saw that. I'm sure JJ doesn't think it's crazy.

Believe it or not, before next season hits, I believe a BLUE label 9.8 will go for a $900-$1k It will happen....... This property is so fekking hot, I am just in awe of prices being realized.

And right at that moment you should have the exact same tingling sensation you got when you sold a Magnus #12 for $200 in 1993. lol

It is that kind of analysis that has me thinking about selling my multi-signed 19 and 27. I don't want to, but I feel like a bad capitalist if I don't.

Yup. It's getting hard not to sell at this point. Dug out my 19 and 27 yesterday and they both have a shot at 9.8.

  3. Shane was the voice of reason in the show. Sure he was slightly insane, but if 99.9% of the population is trying to eat my friends and my family, and myself, it's time to stop pretending we still live in a happy civilized world and time to start being a d i c k.

At least they killed Dale too; otherwise, with Shane gone, the whining would have been unbearable. I hope Lori is next.

  4. Capes #1 ? first appearance of WD?

Capes #1 is NOT the 1st appearance of WD. (tsk)

That's a rumor that got out of control, due to the indicia inside the book.

Both Agents #6 and Capes #1 have a preview/advertisement in them. HOWEVER, they actually were released on the same day as WD #1 (October 8th 2003). NOT earlier, as the indicia inside implies. To put it simpler, Agents #1 and Capes #1 were late.

Wouldn't that still put them in a 3-way tie for 1st WD?

Of course, I don't really count preview/ads as first appearances, but as devil's advocate, there wasn't anything released before them.

  5. The seller brettsstuff is actually...

    DAVIDSON!!!!

    Opps... Wrong thread..

    The seller is actually....

    Me.

I knew I should have popped back in here sooner. Good luck to anyone from the forum bidding. I'd obviously be happy if the price goes up, but I'd also be happy to see it go to a good home with a board member. :)

  6. So what do people think about the covers versus the interior pages to Chew? I'm first in line for the cover to #8, just not sure I want it. I tend to like interior pages...they're cheaper and frankly more interesting.

I have the cover to #2 and it looks great in person. Rob's linework is really smooth and the covers don't lose anything from the published version (i.e. it's not half-Photoshopped like a few artists are known to do).

The interiors are sweet too, but I'd certainly pick up that #8 cover if I had the opportunity.

  7. Why were these books produced? Were they intended to be incentives or gift editions?

I'm just curious because the fact that they're signed and numbered (even to the point of including "AP" editions) makes me think that Keith wanted them to be a nice high-end collectible; however, the fact that Jay Company was selling a stack of them directly from Keith and people are speculating that they may have been tossed in a landfill implies that they were never really distributed.

They seem like very cool books, so I'd like to know the story behind their publication.

  8. Was Preacher's first appearance Preacher Preview or Absolute Vertigo?

    Neither. It's Preacher #1

Not a chance - the Preacher Preview was exactly that, a preview of Preacher #1 (which wasn't released until a year later) and it has the 1st appearances of the main characters.

Just because it wasn't 32 pages long doesn't mean it's not the 1st appearance.

meh, a preview is just an ad like any other. It's promotional material designed to get a customer to buy the full retail version. There's no difference between the Preacher Preview and the Walking Dead/Chew situation. I can see where it has value and significance as a novelty or memorabilia, but it's not part of the Preacher run and it's not a first appearance.

There are countless examples from the golden age up of characters debuting in advertisments, posters, preview inserts, ashcans, magazines, etc. and none of them are regarded as legit first appearances.

  9. What about that DC sampler that's considered the first appearance of Watchmen?

    NOPE!

my buddy just recieved this a few days ago in the mail 1985 DC SPOTLIGHT

it says 1st app of the watchmen in the label from cgc

Well, then CGC is wrong. Previews and ads in earlier issues have never been accepted as true first appearances in this hobby. They may carry a little extra value because of the ad, but they will never be considered true firsts.

The cover of Action Comics #1 was featured in a couple of books months before the actual issue came out. Are they the first appearance of Superman? Nope.

  10. Ha - I thought long and hard about buying that painting from Levine. Great pickup!

Well, I tried to buy yours last year, summer time, I think; alas it was gone. Her comic work is an odd size, no? I'd like to know the image size of the Fables pages, they don't look much larger than 8x10.

The Fables pages are full size if I remember correctly. I never owned one but saw most of them at SDCC 2 years ago. My cover is about 15x10 or so without the frame.
