Legion of Superheroes collecting thread
Silver replied to Johnny U's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Let’s not lose this thread again, lots of Legion love left to give. Dont know if anyone posted this one yet, if so, sorry for the dupe. In the early days of collecting the Legion the key issues were always the ones before Adventure Comics 300, usually those are what collectors focused on. This one introduces Star Boy. Oddly enough though the cover focuses more on Lana laying in the new legion member. It seems like almost every early Legion appearance had another addition to the team -
I don’t have a little t of his stuff because I really didn’t collect war books but I loved his brief sting on early Brave and the Bold with the Golden Gladiator. I believe he drew him on number 1. It’s sad to think how many of the great artists arenow gone.

I loved his Golden Gladiator on the Brave and the Bold. While I never collected DC war comics, I always appreciated his awesome work on those books as well. -
Price drop, $25 for the Adventure and $200 for the B&B

Next up is Brave and the Bold 22. These books are getting harder to get in nice shape and prices have been on the steady rise. This is a solid mid grade copy of this classic greytone Kubert cover. Very supple, full cover gloss, CR/OW to OW pages. F+. This is the last issue with the Silent Knight. $225

That’s a good one Ian. Jimmy had a lot cool covers that I’m sure were the reason the books sold as well as it did. Pretty sure through the mid 60’s at least Jimmy Olsen outsold Amazing Spider-Man! -

I have very few CGC graded Legion issues of Adventure Comics, so I don’t have any to compete with the copies you two have shown. Along those lines this is a favorite of mine and I would love to get a high grade copy, a great cover and story -

You mean like this one? -
I was lucky enough to win a chance to purchase one of the limited Mondo Avengers Infinity War prints at the San Diego comic con. They only printed 1000 of them. You have to really see these prints in person to see what high-quality they are. I took mine to Michael’s to get framed, I can’t believe what an awesome job they did! This picture doesn’t really do it justice but I thought I would share it here:

All of the Krypton stuff played heavily into all the Superman books of the 60’s. I personally like all of those books so I imagine when they were new they were popular. I got my copy of Superboy 98 in the 1980’s at the San Diego comic con, it was always a favorite issue of mine. I think it is reminiscent of Superboy #60 -
Why is ASM1 so expensive relative to it's peers?

I think Action 285 has always been a great book, can you imagine owning that original cover? It’s just awesome! The Supergirl coming out story was kind of a big deal at the time since she was hidden to the public as “Superman’s secret weapon”. -

Ian, those are incredible, I feel so remission upgrading. My Legion books. It’s a series I completed so long ago I haven’t paid it much attention, but these stunning copies are making me very envious! -

Major SA key, iconic cover, more affordable than AF15, first issue of the most popular character of the silver age and arguably right there withn Superman and Batman. I think comparing it to Superman 1 is more accurate than say Iron Man 1 although Superman 1 scarcity is off the charts. -

Well, I’ve noticed that even some Marvel stuff hasn’t aged well. The truly timeless stuff that actually is a lot of fun to read is almost anything. On super hero. Read some Archie, Harvey, Sugar and Spike, etc. still very funny.
