Legion of Superheroes collecting thread
Silver replied to Johnny U's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
One of my favorite comics of all time. My first LSH story and first Teen Titans. Bought one of these off the rack at 7-11, this and a slurpee for 75 cents. I loved the Super Moby of Space story. I love that BB 54 story even more. The original covers had me salivating for original books. I was 11 years old, this book was my tipping point. -
I have such a hard time selling anything! I sold four silver ages DC’s recently and it was almost cathartic. I have a lot of stuff I just can’t see myself ever selling though. I will start with these three. Showgirls 1 I bought in 1978 from Bond Street Books in Hollywood. It cost $1. I spent 30 years locating the other two books to complete the set. I had them slabbed this year. I just can’t see myself parting with them, it’s a complete run.

Right before the 312 and just as hard to get, would so love a upgrade to a 9.2/4 if one ever came up, love this cover! -
Pretty strong prices, a Superboy 1 in 8.0 sold for 9K!

Yet another one I would probably upgrade. Legion was one of the first sets I collected and I wasn’t as grade conscientious. I have some nice issues, but probably not a lot of 9.4s and not very many graded. Heres a early one, nice, but no 9.4.The famous Super-hombre issue -

I couldn’t agree more Eric. You’re right about 340-380. There are some stories I love prior to those numbers, but it just really got awesome starting with the Computo storyline. Is it also the first two parter? -

I agree with everything your saying about the Fatal Five Ian. They were such a “good” evil team! What a great story! -

Thanks for setting me straight in the numbers, I was trying to do it from my head and didn’t check. I do know this, there were a number of awesome two parters. People denigrate DC all the time but I fell like these Legion stories in Adventures that we’re talking about represent some of the very best story telling DC had at the time. I’m not sure off the top of my head if they are all Jim Shooter stories, but I think a number of them are. -

Those were such awesome stories it’s no wonder that anybody that read those became Legion fans for life -
Okay, now I’m hot to get a couple more so I can get to 70!

Btw, the Modred story is also a favorite of mine. It’s about as good as it got for SA DC and is a must read. Other great two parters are 350/351, the Legion Chain Gang in 360/361, and the Death of Triplicate Girl in 340/341. There seems to be a pattern in the numbering! -

Knowing the kind of books Tim has, please post all of them! The biggest reason I collected Superboy to completion is that I was a Legion fan. I believe I have literally every LSH appearance through the 70’s EXCEPT Adv 247 -

I’m familiar with those books, they are all incredible. I saw them more than a year ago, but they were very, very pricey. Congrats to you on obtaining these stellar books. As far as best B.B. 1-24 set out there though, Mick Rabin has the nicest I have seen, it’s not compete but it’s close. Those copies Bedrock had are right up there.

I completed my Adventure Comics 300-380 Run a long time ago, but occasionally upgrade issues when I see them. It’s getting harder because the earlier issues in nice shape don’t show up often and when they do they can fetch a high price. I have long though 311 and 312 were two of the toughest to get in high grade. They both have black covers and are really excellent books both;story and cover wise. I finally found a sweet 312 raw that I couldn’t pass up, here it is, resurrection of Lightning Lad:
