Steel is a fictional superhero who appears in comic books published by DC Comics. He is a genius engineer who built a mechanized suit of armor that replicates Superman's powers and bears Superman's logo. Initially, he sought to replace Superman after Superman was killed by Doomsday. After Superman was resurrected, Superman accepted Steel as a comrade. His real name is John Henry Irons and he wields a sledgehammer—this is a reference to the mythical railroad worker John Henry. He has a niece named Natasha Irons who is also a superhero in a similar mechanized suit of armor.

    NOT SUPERMAN!

Shaq has a Superman tattoo. Thus, Steel is the first Black Superman.

I’m highly suspect of this cards path.

Those are the exact same serial number card by the same seller. That same serial number card then shows up in the PWCC Vault a short time later. I wouldn’t be surprised if the person who “sold” it the first two times on eBay was the consigner with PWCC.

I knew it... the Power Broker is secretly Mephisto!

Given that multiple episodes ago it was pretty obvious who the Power Broker would be I held out hope this episode they would go for a completely unexpected character.

A return of Red Skull to earth hiding out in Madripoor building up his war machine under the Power Broker alias would have been a nice swerve instead of the predictable.

I did not think about your Sharon theory, I like it.

This show was ok, I am glad I watched it, I do not feel the need to watch it again. My biggest criticism of the show is I found it very predictable.

The Falcon/Karli/Carter scene near the end was nothing sort of cliche done over and over again in films.

The whole thing was predictable garbage.

That cover benefitted from the Wolverine Snake Eyes tax.  There is another cover out there that the seller wants $8k for a non Snake Eyes cover.  He will probably use the sale to increase the price but no one was buying at $8k so.... yeah... So it definitely depends on the character.

I mean it’s also got Storm Shadow on the cover with Snake Eyes so it’s a double whammy. How many covers were they actually on together even if this does feature their later looks.

I meant retail items, but sure.

I'm not sure if its shifting tastes so much as the kids that grew up with the illegible 90s garbage comics - books so bad you couldn't read them... guess what, they didn't read them.

    What are you talking about?

Question: is the quality of offerings (e.g. anticipated prices based on recent sales) going to soon outstrip the willingness of people to pay for them? At the show, I had a chat with another collector, with significant holdings, who felt we are beginning to see that, with a lot of art coming onto the market. I don't think it is there quite yet, but we may soon be at a tipping point, particularly when people with money will be able to spend it on other things soon. Let me add that he was focused on items above $5K, as he felt the prices below that amount could be sustainable.

The price boom in basically all collectibles has lead to me losing interest in collecting anything...except some OA. It’s at least one of a kind and as noted hasn’t been as stupid with price increases. Toward the end 2020 I was thinking of picking up some graded comics and cards in the future. Even if there is a roll back the dramatic run up in the past four months has greatly killed my interest as there are real life useable things I’d rather spend my money on.

Bronty knows I was buying some graded MTG cards I’ve wanted for years and nothing to crazy to start. The last card I bought was one I had wanted for around 25 years. I finally bought one for $500 in early November. The last sale in the exact same grade was triple at $1,500. 😬

That’s great and all but I just don’t feel like adding the few others I wanted at this point. Cool but not cool enough for me to want to pay triple the price in just a few months. I had no intention of flipping these things but I had two cards that also ran up in price quite a bit that weren’t favorites so I sold them a month or so ago. The one went for about 4.5X what I had paid last summer and it was from The Dark which Bronty will tell you is the drizzling 💩

As noted comics are a runaway train. X-Men 1 and 4 have been on a crazy year compared to just 6 months ago. Baseball cards for guys like Mantle and Jeter rookies forget it.

There have been other things like graded Marvel cards taking off...however there has been some clear manipulation there.
Same seller and same exact serial number card all three times. Nothing fishy there especially with that first “sale”. There other examples of this same exact card same eBay seller (but different seller than the Black Widow card shown). Pump and Dump baby!

I guess I never realized how little art Hama did for the series. But if I recall most of the Marvel series was his brain child, correct?

He scripted most of the issues. Out of the first 25 issues I’ve read he scripted I believe all of them and only did layouts for issue 21.

At today's show, I bought what I consider a great piece of "good girl" art by Jack Sparling from 1952. No, he isn't a popular artist nor is the subject, the piece has been listed for sale for quite a while, and it is unlikely to go up in value (several of these pin-ups have been on sale over the last 5 years or so in the $700 range). But the piece screams presence (it is a twice up), and is an excellent piece of artisanship IMO. As a bonus, you also get to see Sparling doing a bit of war art with it. An under-appreciated artist.

First, what I bought, and second, the published version. FYI, I Iike to keep digital copies of published art with copies of the originals.

He would later become Paste Pot Pete.

Also how can you not appreciate Sparling since he did some DC Grey Tone Bronze Horror.

ps the shield stuff bothers me less than some, but I agree it would take a 'super' person to do so without damage or danger.

This was a problem we had right out of the gate with this show. The opening of episode 1, Falcon with his high tech suit doesn’t immediately over take a guy that is just wearing some aerodynamic suit with no power source. meh

I get it was meant to be pop corn action but we just found it unbelievably distracting and a poor start to the show that others apparently seemed greatly entertained by. (shrug)

Also was it anyone else or were they just trying to fill out episode 5 air time by doing numerous and inexplicable slow motion shots in the episode?

Disney apparently doesn’t know how to handle the use of slow motion. The last episode of The Mighty Ducks featured a challenge of fastest slap shot speed recorded on a radar gun...the deciding shot was shown in slow motion...WTF :whatthe:

This is page 18. Is it their first appearance page in the book or are they on many pages previous to this page?

I actually read that issue this week (I’m reading the Marvel run in order) and yes that’s their very first appearance. They blow the Cobra Plane out of the sky at the funeral for General Flagg and then are introduced to the Joe team.
