  1. I think I broke into the top 50? Either way, I'm going to have to stop joking about being at the bottom of these grading contests. Good luck to all in the tie-breaker round. May the gods reveal to you every ncb on every scan.
  2. 7 points in this round. I think I only overgraded one book this entire contest and had no bullseyes. Confirmation I know very little when it comes to grading golden age books.
  3. Ok. Grades in. Can't wait to find where I end up so I can advertise my prowess in a future sell threads.
  4. This is a good description I think. I sometimes keep that app on in the background, joining various shows to see what's happening. I like discovering new books, new sellers, and discovering how pokemon, mtg, and sportscard sellers work. I was always curious about mystery boxes, slabs, breaks, and all those random contests. I don't participate in them but I at least got to see them in-person. As a buyer, my paypal account gets charged right away so be aware of that. It's also difficult to find people who grade accurately (which is my experience from instagram). There are some dealers on Whatnot who grade well (in my experience) but it takes time to find them. I've also found myself buying something I don't need just because I've been watching the show for awhile and my discipline breaks down. I find the app entertaining but I find conventions, my lcs, and this board to be the place where I can focus on being the kind of collector I want to be.
  5. When I first read the question, it sounded like the deal had already gone down. But since it hasn't, 10% seems reasonable.
  6. RIP. May his memory be a blessing and my thoughts are with all who knew him - especially his family. That many deaths in such a short time is so so hard.
  7. I keep seeing stains that are not stains. Maybe they are production related - or my computer screen is dirty. Let's see if my greater than 0 score can continue through the next round. lol.
  8. I should probably sell some comics before the results of this grading contest are announced. I promise large pictures so you can judge the comics yourself!
  9. I...don't know how to grade sun shadows and stuff that looks like stains or foxing or oxidation to me. And what looks like faded colors to me on golden age comics. Nice to know how my personal hangups get in the way of accurate grading sometimes.
  10. I actually like the idea of thinking about collecting goals. I'm about to enter my 3rd year back in the hobby after being away for a dozen years. I didn't have any goals when I started (except lamenting the comics I sold years ago). Now that I'm a bit more settled, I'm hoping this 3rd year is a year with goals I can meet. 1) Post here more. I lurk but don't comment as much as I want to. 2) Actually list the comics I have in my "to sell" pile. I already use a CPA so throwing a new 1099 into the mix won't be too much of a pain. 3) Read more. I have a very short pull list but I still only sit down and read new issues once every quarter. I'd like to do better. 4) Secure two Tales of Suspense issues below #49. 5) Secure a high grade copy of Iron Man 225. 6) Complete my raw run of Kamala Khan's Ms. Marvel (and a few CGC 9.8s if they show up) 7) Grab a super low grade copy of TOS 57. 8) Finish my IM 1-55 run. 9) Continue my love of high presenting mid-grade comics. If the front is clean but the back isn't that great...
  11. Front cover. Small tear above the "e" in tales and below Iron Man's left foot. Close up of spine part 1. Book still attached at the staples even though top is popped (if I'm using that term correctly). No spine splits. Inside Cover There's a stain that goes from the first page through about the 13th. Most visible on this ad page. Here's how the stain looks in the panels.
  12. I'm for mixed books and I'm already looking forward to being near the bottom each and every time these are run.
  13. I have to do the same on my iPhone (ios 14.8.1, Safari).
  14. So I guess I qualify as a lurker since most of my activity consists of being a bit too slow when making a claim in a sell thread. As someone who often talks a lot for a living, I enjoy being in a place where I can just listen. The amount of knowledge here is amazing and when I sold my collection a couple of times in a past life, the hospitality here was amazing. When threads get long and devolve into the in-group talking to the in-group, it’s hard to jump in. It’s easier to just sit back and wait for the next thread to start so I can learn something new.
