  1. As I mentioned earlier,I would like a little more info here and I think it would be a great time for Zaddick and Terry to chime in . First of all who are they?I know Joe and Dan are serious collectors (and ,I think, lawyers also)and concerning the show will there be any new ideas for this that might set them apart from the Joe and Dan Shows other than location? How much will admission be?Joe and Dan always kept it affordable or are they going to go the "Wizard World" route and charge $50 + just to walk in because they are in NYC. How about an extended artist's Alley? Joe and Dan usually had one or two artists but why not several selling there work. Maybe artists that are not Comic artists but sell comic related fine art. COME ON ZADDICK AND TERRY ! GIVE US MORE INFO !!!!!
  2. What's your problem. I was just asking if it would be different ,(perhaps better) Nobody said anything about not giving them a chance ,I was just trying to get more info. I'm also happy that we have more options, that is my" logic".Take the chip off your shoulder.
  3. I will be exhibiting some of my original comic art collection at the Paul Robeson Center at the Arts Council of Princeton in NJ , Jan. 13th - March 10th, with an opening reception Jan. 3rd ,3-5pm. My collection of silver age artists is bigger than some but certainly not as big as some of my friends on this board but it does have some gems . I'll also be offering a lecture"Fine Art ,Comics and the Narrative Image" Jan.20th,1-2:30pm. If you are in the NY/NJ area I hope you will drop in. The Arts Council of Princeton is a struggling nonprofit with limited funds for advertising so I would appreciate it if any board members would forward this information to any other websites or chat rooms that might have an interest .Any other ideas for advertising this event would also be appreciated. You can get more info here: http://artscouncilofprinceton.org/exhibit/heroes-of-comic-arts/ Here's some of what will be on display. I don't have to tell you guys who the artists are.
  4. Cheer up my friend. That right there is a masterpiece.Every panel is wonderful. I'd rather have that than the MonaLisa!
  5. I'm sorry ,can some one tell me what "replacement dress" is ?
  6. I saw the show yesterday as I showed up a day early (my mistake )and they let me in anyway. The gallery is not huge but there was lots of great stuff on display and there was Chris Ware sitting there signing posters. We chatted a bit and he was very nice. They have great posters that I think are free.(they gave me one) Highly recommend !!
  7. How is this going to be different than the Comic Art Con that Joe and Dan have been running for years in NJ ... NYC location?
  8. Disney's Black Hole was a comic strip drawn by Jack Kirby that was based on the Disney movie of the same name and syndicated in the late seventies . I had the good fortune to come across the complete newspaper printing of the strip and have reproduced it on my website for everyone's enjoyment. I did post it a couple of years ago an now it is back for those that missed it. As far as I know it has never since been published in it's entirety is this country so if you have an interest please take a look . http://www.charlesdavidviera.com/thumbnail_list.php?mgd_id=210204
  9. I wish you would have bid a little higher (LOL). Seriously I don't know either .I seem to like them more than most and ,because of that, pay more for them than I should . I think those pre-hero and western Kirby pages are undervalued. I guess the obvious answer is that character driven art is still a main attraction.
  10. Yes ,as usual things started moving in the final minutes . I posted six pages ,3 went slightly higher than what I paid with the Hunger Dogs performing the best (doubled $) which was good because the other two lost money especially the pre-hero page which lost big $. I would have done well had it not been for the Pre-Hero page which I probably paid too much for.( went for $1500 ,I paid approximately $2500 cash /trade) . Fees and all things considered I broke about even .These things are a shoot .Comic Connect is still a good option in my opinion. Thanks for asking!
  11. TONITE IS THE NIGHT !!! Looks like somebody is going to get some beautiful art at a reasonable price!
  12. Thanks KirbyJack, I hate to part with any of them but I picked up these two beauties (below) and the $ has to come from somewhere .Hopefully this sale will make up for my expenditures with a little left over for ,as you know, something else will pop up in the future that I'll have to have. The Comic Connect guys have been great to deal with !

  14. I'm going to have to miss this one (only the second since it began) because of work. I'm especially bummed because Geoff Isherwood is going to be there and IMO he is a terrific artist. If he brings a stack of art ,which I hope he does, check it out .I think you all will be in for a treat .....
  15. This is an interesting compromise .It will also be interesting to see if other auction houses (and consigners ) agree to do the same.
  16. Thanks Hal, Having been involved with fine art most of my life I know many, many artists ,male and female that were inspired by comics in their youth to draw and paint. There is definitely a condescension towards comic art that exists by some who consider themselves intellectuals . Case in point : A few years ago I lent my comic art collection to a college art gallery in NYC for display . During the hanging of the exhibition I began describing to the Gallery Director the importance of one artists contributions to which I was abruptly cut of with an icey "I don't read comics !!" If you visit my website charlesdavidviera.com you will see that I also do a lot of wild life paintings and they are more commercially successful (thankfully)and these narrative paintings are something that I stray into from time to time. This painting was recently rejected from a local museum exhibition and I'm not really surprised. I think they thought it was too violent and sexist and missed the point that I was just trying to focus on the roles that media has placed on genders (male /violent,female/over sexualized) hence the title "Heroes of the Western World"....Thanks for looking and responding...CV
  17. As well as long time OA collector I've been an artist all of my life involved with Fine Arts except for a very short stint as a colorist for comics (Defiant) and as you would imagine my love for comic art has seeped into my painting from time to time. It has been difficult at times as, in the Fine Arts arena ,comic art is still on the bottom rung of the ladder and any hint of it is frequently looked down on .Having said that and hoping that my fellow board members would be appreciative I would like to show you my latest creation entitled "Heroes of the Western World" (first image,) and the comic illustration images I "borrowed" during it's creation. I referenced that great kirby Rawhide Kid fight scene and those Elvgren girls to fill out the composition . The painting is in acrylic and 36 x 48 inches . I would be very interested in any comments you might offer....Charles

  20. They have all of the tools to be a major player .They have the website (as confusing as it is ),they advertise and have an impressive midtown office here in Manhattan. They publish decent catalogs and seem to have a presence at most conventions . I also know that they received a lot of publicity ,print and television ,in connection with the Berk Collection in the NY area. I agree that most of the buzz surrounded the comics auctioned but if they can keep the momentum going they can and should become major players .Perhaps the Berk Estate recognized that fact and it seems to have worked out for them. They have another major auction coming up in August/September ,so let's see what happens.
  21. I used to feel the same way about their site but once I figured it out it was pretty easy . To search for original art by artist just hit "Art/Memorabilia on the left ,then when that screen pops up ,hit "refine search" ,then choose the artist from the scroll ,hit "search" and you will find all they have to offer in art from that artist. I think the "Berk Collection"auction firmly established them as that third option and I will be keeping a closer eye on their upcoming auctions in the future.
  22. Everybody should run (don't walk) to this exhibition . I visited it on tuesday and the place and exhibition are fabulous . Not only was I overwhelmed with the presence of great Romita, Gil Kane ,Ross Andru ,Steve Ditko art but the museum also is exhibiting the Korhsak Collection of Fantasy Illustration which features art by notable illustrators including Virgel Finlay ,Frazetta and Krenkel and others. The top floor has a terrific cafe and exhibition space where I enjoyed an over stuffed sandwich while staring directly at a great 4 page sequence of Ditko large art. (That sequence where he lifts that machinery from his shoulders ,I forgot which issue that was from) . The Society of Illustrators is in the East 60's on the upper East side of Manhattan. Here is the contact info; https://www.societyillustrators.org
  23. Those photos are great Mike. I feel like I don't have to see the show now . (just kidding,I'm probably going to see it this week) Great job by you !
