  1. I would like to see the past sales also.CC is still one of the most difficult sites to navigate but I'm staring to get the hang of it. Does anyone know what that Kirby , Sgt.Fury page went for?
  2. Thanks Kirbyjack, My image is not the best as that page is a lot nicer in person. I've owned that page twice once about ten years ago and then again a few years back when I got it as part of a deal (always loved that monster panel). I think those 4th world pages are under valued and I hate to let one of them go.
  3. Kirby Art ,Splash ,Interiors Available Hi Artfans, I’m offering some Kirby art for purchase on my website as I’ve got my eye on something coming up at auction and would like to raise some cash . I hate to let them go but you all know how that goes. The prices are pretty firm as it also includes shipping and insurance. US buyers only . Please check them out at charlesdavidviera.com (scroll down to COMIC ART) or click here: http://www.charlesdavidviera.com/thumbnail_list.php?mgd_id=236276 They are only going to be available for a few days as I will be offering them to be auctioned in a couple of days but thought I’d give you guys a shot first. You can contact via my website (contact) or PM me here.
  4. Yes,it is awesome. I stopped by the Comic Connect offices on 37th St.NYC yesterday and the high lights of the collection are on display.Vincent was very gracious and showed me around ,The gallery there is open to the public so I would encourage everyone to check it out as it is well worth the effort to see this art before it disappears into private collections.
  5. Make that three. I offered to consign a Bronze Age Kirby page to Clink at the last NJ Comic Con which they did not want.I walked across the room to Comic Connect and they took the same page.I had a brief discussion with the Comic Connect staff concerning the Kirby situation ,which they were fully aware of , but they were not deterred.I don't know what this means but I was dissapointed with Clink as I had dealt with them (buying and selling Kirby art ) in the past. I would be interested if any of the winners of Kirby art from the recent Heritage auction have heard anything out of the norm from Heritage or the Kirby estate.
  6. A word of advice.A few years ago my wife bought me a nice Kirby ,Black Panther page which I really appreciated. As would be the case with just about every piece I own,I traded it towards something more expensive a few years later (that's how I role ) and she was very offended that I would trade off a gift from her and never bought me another piece again. Some kind of lesson learned here ,but not quite sure what that lesson was.
  7. "will someone with full knowledge of the situation think less of Jack Kirby for these happenings?" The answer to that is no, but ten years from now someone that does not know about this might not even know who Jack Kirby was if the Kirby estate continues to discourage the visability of his artwork. It's already happening.
  8. "This does nothing to tarnish Jack's legacy, the man is dead and has nothing to do with this " I beg to differ my friend! A legacy often begins with one's passing . Vermeer was gone more than two decades before art historians discovered his work. An artist's legacy is written in large part by his influence on others that came after him. As I mentioned in an earlier post ,these obstacles that the Kirby Estate are putting in front of collectors and historians will person_having_a_hard_time_understanding_my_point the efforts of **curators and historians like Charles Hatfield, who curated the recent Kirby exhibition at California State University, in the future. These exhibitions do a lot to further an artists reach and bring that artist to the attention of those that might not have known them before. So yes ,it is tarnishing Jack Kirby's legacy ** my apologies ,I have tried unsuccessfully to edit /correct this line 3 times , so if it reads strange blame the "new" CGC website.
  9. "I'd be interested to know your thoughts on what all of this means to the market going forward." I am not a lawyer but; Worst case scenario: The Kirby Estate takes on Heritage (the Estate is not going after one guy with a Devil Dinosaur page, too expensive)and some Judge decides that considering the Disney decision ,that the Kirby's have a legit claim ,holding up the art in Heritage's possession (not allowing them to return it to the consigners )and leaving all Kirby art owners without iron clad proof of ownership, such as a sale receipt from the Kirbys, the choice of returning it or paying a percentage of it's value to the estate. Now other relatives of artists from that era, Heck ,Ditko, Colan ,Buscema, etc. use that decision to claim the same.Driving up the prices and complicating the auctioning of this artwork to the point that the auction houses just won't bother with comic art. We all saw how quickly Comic Link abandoned the Kirby art.Who needs the headache ? The auction houses are a major part of this hobby and it is hard to view this hobby going forward without them. This is why I feel that this could be disaster for OCA collecting. Best Case Scenerio: What I think and hope does happens is what Thothamon (a real Lawyer) mentioned earlier,is that the Estate be denied in court and this is just one last shot by the Kirby Kids for a money grab which they will give up on , (after tarnishing Jack's Legacy with fans and collectors who legitimately adore Jack and his artwork) and things will go back as they were.
  10. I have a great regard for Kirby as an artist but I think this money grab by the estate and the lawyer representing them is disgraceful . Jack's legacy as a artist was enhanced by the numerous gallery exhibitions in Europe and in the US, such as the great exhibition that took place in Califormia recently. These exhibitions rely heavily on collectors making artwork available to curators. With this kind of legal bullying hanging over the heads of collectors ,what Kirby collector would want to risk the attention they would get by making thier artwork available in the future exhibitions ? Jack Kirby was starting to be recognized in the Fine Art arena in part do to these museum quality exhibitions. No artwork ,no exhibition,no exhibitions,no legacy. The Kirby estate should be happy with thier lucrative Disney settlement, stop this short term money grab and consider the long term effect.
  11. I'm surprised this story's not getting more attention here as it is a story that could possibly turn the collecting community upside down.It has been discussed on other threads but the problem still exists and if the stories that I hear are true ,it is about to come to a head with the upcoming Heritage Auction. To briefly summerize ,a few months back Clink was served notice by the Kirby estate lawyers that they should cease and desist auctioning Kirby art as the estate was prepared to legally challenge the ownership of those artworks(the old marvel /others did not compensate Kirby/work was stolen thing).Clink, considering a costly legal battle, backed off. Once this story got around many of the bigger dealers got nervous and put thier Kirby art in hiding, some, not so much.Heritage was undeterred and has continued to offer Kirby work. The latest news is that Heritage now has received that same notification from the Kirby estate ,so now everyone is watching to see what's next. This is the story that I have pieced together from various reliable sources most of which would probably prefer to remain anonymous. If anybody has any updates or corrections, please chime in.
  12. I think that all of these ideas are great but one suggestion I might offer is a toned matte as opposed to white . The biggest mistake I made and I have about 50 pieces framed on my wall,is that I started with white mattes. Since I collect mostly silver age art more and more of it has tanned or yellowed and the white accentuates that in contrast. Had I had it to do over I would have chosen a toned matte such as a light grey with a warm slightly brown hue. The bluer cooler grays also accentuate the mostly warm yellow brown aging of the paper ,less so with the warmer gray mattes. I do my own framing and spend a lot of time running around to better art supply stores trying to find off -white matte board. Places like Michaels (get a coupon) usually only carry Black ,White or grey unless you special order.
  13. I've found dealing with the site too problematic as it is rarely updated . I had the same problem for a few years (things I wanted were unavailable) and finally gave up . Spencer is quick to remind his customers of his "Rules" because his time is important but I think he would do well to remember his customer's time is important also. Having said that ,you can really get some good deals if you have the patience to wade through all of this .
  14. Would it be crazy to purchase one of those sketch art CBG graded comics with the Miller sketch, take it out of the plastic seal, and then have it framed?
  15. I'm assuming you want to get rid of your Kirby book because you are unhappy with it. So , just curious, why ? I have it and I thought it was pretty nice.
  16. A couple of days ago I received three IDW Artists Editions that I had ordered ,the Buscema Silver Surfer, the Marvel Covers and the Kubert Tarzan .All in all I was pretty happy with all of them and have added them to my collection of ,Jack Davis , Wally Wood and the Kirby New Gods. I would have to rate the Jack Davis as my favorite and then the Wally Wood . I guess it's because they are larger and the art really makes an impact on that scale. I would rate them as follows: 1. Jack Davis 2. Wally Wood 3. Kirby New Gods 4.Marvel Covers 5. Buscema Surfer 6. Kubert Tarzan I think they are all good and I like the notations , cut outs , white out ,stats, pencils and stuff like that as it gives me an insight into the process. I think that is the reason that the Kubert is at the bottom of the list as it is really clean in regards to these types of corrections which is probably a testament to the professionalism of the DC publishing ,as opposed to the other publishers. The artwork is so clean in comparison to the others that it is a bit like viewing one of those DC Showcase ,paperback, black and white volumes (or Marvel Essentials ) only larger. Having said that I am still happy with all of them and now will probably go back and purchase the other EC large art editions in the future.
  17. Hey Romain, Since you are French , can you give us Americans a few tips on buying from European collectors and dealers. I tend to shy away from deals out of the U.S. because of money transfers , customs, etc. and have missed more than a few good opportunities because of it. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
