What a great copy. Congrats! One of all time favorite comics from the Silver Age . Classic cover and battle issue. Kirby at his peak, imho. I remember my late father bought me this book back in the summer of 1966 along with Spider Man # 41. still have it. I upgraded some years back with a 8.5 from Bob Storms.

Agreed. I don't normally read Hulk, but the Horror/Monster vibe they are going with on the new run is really good so far. Killer art also.
I agree . It sold out at my local comic shop.

The one that I would never sell is my 1967 Merry Marvel Marching Society Kit. Complete. It's in beautiful condition. I still have my original membership card to go with it . The only thing to survive from the original kit. My Mom and Dad paid 69 cents for it back then. Lost in time over the years. I just purchased this kit last year from a collector. When it came in the mail I was taken back to ten years old again. What a rush! 50 years later. One of the great things of collecting , Memories!!

I was told that Ted at Superworld began his back issue business after finding a trunk full of Golden Age comics at the dump.
Don't know any details though!
I think it was Ted's friend , Rich Mossow who found a collection.

I emailed the store owner and asked him the price.
He said, $110K.
I asked if that was negotiable and he said. "No".
I called and told him I would take it for $110K.
He then said he had a customer who had offered him $100K, who he had turned down. He said he wanted to give that customer more time to think about it and see if he would up his offer to the $110K asking price.
The owner emailed me a few days later stating he had sold it for the $110K to the other customer.
Some things are just not meant to be. I am very blessed by many people and things in my life. Not having an AC1 cannot change that (as much as I may want one).
That's a great attitude to have. I feel that way myself, esp. as we get older.

Yes, that is one whacky cover. The Clock appears on 2 whole pages also, I think. Better deal is a Funny Picture Stories #1 , Clock story and cover. I'm biased, I own one.

I assume the most likely scenario is that Burrell pulled the Suspense 3 out of the collection as part of his payment for loaning Chuck the $2K in order to purchase the entire Mile High collection from the Church family.
After all, I believe he was entitled to the first $10K worth of books to be pulled at his discretion based upon the top of guide price at the time. Looks like he wasn't into the big super hero books back then since that would have chewed through his $10K pretty quickly. Took the Planet run with the beautiful covers which gobbled up just over $2K of the total. Since there was no Gerber Photo-Journal at the time and not much info on GA books, he probably stumbled across the Suspense 3 cover by accident, liked the cover, and pulled it out of the run since there was nothing special about the book in the guide at the time. Highly doubt he went searching specifically for this book, especially since it was simply lumped in with the Suspense 3 - 10 run at the time, at only $6 a pop and probably figured this wouldn't chew up too much of his $10K allotment.
This scenario sounds good ,but didn't Burrell store his books in a attic. I remember reading that somewhere. He liked the Fiction House Books. Some of the pages on books were burnt ,tanning. Wouldn't the Suspense have damage also?? Again I don't know if this story is true or not. It's something I read or heard. It's all speculation until someone knows.

I have that run also. Incredible Kirby and later Wood art. That has to be one of my all time favorite runs in the Silver Age. I completed my run about 3 years ago. Most are in Fine condition. BTW # 2 is a bear to get a nice copy of. # 5 was a little difficult also for me.

That Russ Heath art is to die for. I have both of those books.

Thanks for responding. It is pretty rare.

Go for them also if you can , some great stories and art.

Hi Gator. I asked in the Centaur thread , maybe you didn't see it. Detective Picture Stories # 5 , is this book commanding crazy money nowadays? Bruce Wayne prototype? I remember seeing one on Link and the seller was asking crazy money for one. I don't know if it ever sold though. There is a Funny Pages also like that . Bruce Wayne Prototype. Thanks.
