  1. Technically a Bronze Age, but no one cares about Bronze Westerns, so I'm sticking it here
  2. Agreed. I feel like that needs some description as to the significance Frank#18. Overstreet notes "New origin, horror series begins" iss #17 before it notes "Last humor issue" ... humor?! Yeah the Guide and CGC label should read: 'Classic Cover. Killer Briefer horror begins.' !! Recommended this to CGC here (if they approve the post, that is...): http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8872807#Post8872807 ...now for me to find a copy that a dog chewed on so I can afford it
  3. Currently Frankenstein comics does not have any description. A board member recommended, "Classic Cover. Killer Briefer horror begins." Overstreet notes in the most recent guide #45, "New origin, horror series begins." Maybe you can find a way to incorporate both into a new label? I think the importance of the change from a humor to horror format is noteworthy in general, but especially to this title. Please let me know if you agree. Thanks in advance!! Example:
  4. That 18 is fierce, Jay. I keep starting, stopping, and re-starting on the horror issues. Agreed. I feel like that needs some description as to the significance Frank#18. Overstreet notes "New origin, horror series begins" iss #17 before it notes "Last humor issue" ... humor?!
  5. Thanks!! Yeah same problem here, I never see those in high grade... This issue also inspired me to start a "headless horseman" collection
  6. I wonder if we were bidding against each other on a couple of these...
  7. Origin of Beastboy! reader I guess... but one of my favorite characters...still hunting for a high grade 1st app or origin issue! The origin...
  8. Agent #7276 here! wowsers you outrank me! 11177 down here! Local Union #7647! Ok vsndesigns you win the thread...
  9. I recognize the 'R' penciled onto the cover. Here's one from the same collection and time period that I used to own. They're very nice books. It makes me wonder whether the owner had a first name beginning with 'R', or whether he/she marked each comic after reading it. Lost in the sands of time. Beautiful book! Also this would make an interesting research study - maybe a collection or pedigree that was overlooked or poorly documented?
  10. Hah, watchers must be owners of the same book - if that sells anywhere near the price that he's asking for, better roll your pants up cuz it's going to flood.
  11. Also need thanks for the help with "moist"
  12. OT, but I wonder if CGC will start grading the sketches/sigs instead of the book. The graders will do that in the sports cards industry. Then again, no one would get anything over an 8.0 for Stan's sig lately...
  13. It's just an effect from the plastic sleeve holding the comic coming into contact with the CGC case. It looks "oily"or maybe like condensation or water, but it's just the effect from two clear petroleum-based plastics coming in contact with each other. I've fixed this as others have suggested. I just takes a piece of paper small enough to get through the side of the slab, but thick enough not to tear off inside the slab. It doesn't bother me, so I never do it with my own slabs, but I always look for it with slabs that I am selling.
  14. The answer to your question was recently posted in the BA forum. The slashed UPCs are direct, not sure when that design was implemented but I'm pretty sure I've got an earlier issue of PPTSS with a slash through the UPC. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=9090670#Post9090670 Thanks for digging that thread up for me. I guess it's pretty much settled
  15. Does the UPC with the black line through it count as a "direct" variant? If so, these go back into the late Bronze Age. I was thinking this was pretty much an issue with the Copper years, so that's why I OP'd here. Just to do a random check, I chose Spectacular Spider-Man and found that the earliest direct that I could find was #39 (Feb. 1980). The first issue with a line through the UPC that I could find was issue #31 (June 1979). Either one of these could line up with the direct market starting in the late 70s. Does anyone know of an earlier direct issue?
