They don't much care if you get posterized, and neither does comiclink. The resale certificate is just a way to encourage re-consignments of valuable books so they make their cut again on the next guy, and why shouldn't they? If a house is going to handle the resale, why not them? The whole Make an Offer platform is built around a similar idea. Buyer 1 has material Buyer 2 now wants. Drop the HA fees to 10% and use your website to facilitate the re-sale of a valuable book.

I love his ships and dragons too. I look for his signature Groo elements when I am buying the art as well. I want things like sinking ships, dragons, supporting characters, cheese dip, a fray, etc etc etc. Good stuff.

Decades and dates really do make the most sense. There's so much change even within those ages that understanding them fully requires getting back to dates anyways. Things changed a lot from year to year within the specific significant movements in comics. 1962 SA marvels aren't like 1966 SA marvels, and 1952 Barks ducks are quite different than 1959 Barks ducks.

I came on around Issue #10 - saw that cover and was a fan ever since. I guess that was around 1987.

1938 and even 1939 are pointless years to use because there was almost no superheroes being published yet. Your point about 1941 is fair, but what's that look like in 1951? I think the point he's making is that after the initial boom during the war years, superheroes weren't that popular - again - until the 60s/70s.

I'm not 100% in love with the published image either, but that's one cover where I think it will look a lot better in black and white. There's a lot of mishmashed colors that are a bit distracting that won't be present on the OA.

Yes, exactly, and so that’s the relevant metric I think. The market has a lot of factors moving up and down within it comingled into results. At the end of thr end of thr day, even if we take Covid volatility out of the equation as best we can there are still other trends effecting the marketplace. For example on the comic book side I’ve noticed that LB Cole covers have been on fire and have stayed hot. ECs have strongly trended up as well. Ie not everything has returned to 2019 levels because there have been some supply and demand changes.

Sure. I think the real question is what was that splash worth at the end of 2019, and what is it worth now? You have to throw the whole covid era out.

oh sure. I don't think anyone's arguing otherwise. However art has held up pretty well overall, largely because it really didn't rocket upward in the first place to the same degree that copper drek did. Didn't rocket to the moon = doesn't need to fall back down so far.

honestly, I'm not surprised it hit six figures. I was going to post that as a prediction and didn't just in case I was going to look silly if it fell short. Its an infamous piece, its a hot era, etc. It is... unique.

Corben stuff has seemed strong lately. I love his covers and I'm glad to see his work doing well. I had the same initial reaction to this page, but when I actually zoom in on the HA image, most of the panels really present quite well. If it still isn't to your taste, 1971 undergrounds may not be for you in general? I think its really pretty neat. I wouldn't pay 30k for it, but its neat.
